Thanks for a great video. I live in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area. We had Chiller Theater on late Saturday nights, 1965 to 1983. It was wonderful. I used to get FMF magazines when I was growing up and until I was a young man. Miss these old periodicals.
I've been to Forry's house many of times. Such a nice guy & honor to have listened to his stories. So sad how he lost the rights to the magazine. It went down hill from that point. Glad I still have my magazine collection.
Creatures features, Shocker, Night Gallery, Tales from the Dark side and Twilight zone. There was even Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Dark Shadows. Everything is kids loved in the early 70s. 😀
How bout the late 1950s when this magazine started and we had ( on channel 5) in the L A market, shock theater. I was around 5 to 6 years old watching monster movies and still watch them , nearly in my 70s
The 70s really was the absolute highlight for the community. Now it's bigger and more accessible worldwide, sure, but there was a certain type of earnest and wonderful passion in all the model kits, horror host shows, masks, magazines, that I haven't seen recreated since(altho Fangoria, Shudder and Dead Meat are doing a great job at continuing that legacy). And the behind the scenes stills and info must have been an absolute treasure trove before there were any easy ways to find that out (even today some of that information is hard to find)
American boys were so lucky. We did not get to see films like this on television in New Zealand. SF and horror movies were rare treats indeed. It would be many years later, with the arrival of videotape and DVD, that I finally got a chance to see these classic movies, and enjoy them.

The condition of the mag, it was EASILY worth twice that. In order to preserve my collection but STILL enjoy reading them, I have the complete Warren AND issues #200 to 254 in PDF format on DVD. Having my cake and eating it too.

I always wanted to visit the Ackermansion. I lived in New York and that was a long way from California. I got in trouble for a paperback I ordered from the back of the magazine. My folks made me give away my collection. In a funny turn of events. years later after I moved to California. Folks worked as movie extras. I shared a similar "misspent" youth watching horror and monster movies , indifferent to whether they were good or bad. I think the appeal for me was that this was a period of time during the 50's and early 60's when it was adults who were the primary characters and you seldom saw any children or teens. There was some subversive joy in watching adults being chased by one monster or another. I got my horror fix every Friday night with Creature Features and then a few hours later with Chiller Theater. Of course Famous Monsters of Filmland was my monthly bible to the genre. Sadly I did not treat these magazines very well and would cut out photos and hang them on my wall. I still haven't forgiven myself for doing something so stupid. But I did but a few back issues,especially the one with Linda Blair in throes of demonic possession in that garish illustrated cover by the great Basil Gogos. If I had the money I buy as many of these issues as possible and preserve them as they should be. There will never be another magazine like FM or another era in which it covered. As bad as some of those films were they were still a lot of fun and every so often you will find a gem that holds up to a modern viewing. I wish I could have taken a tour of the Ackerman museum while Forry was still alive and have the opportunity to thank for making my youth much less dull and saved me from becoming a middle-class cliche. It gave me a little validation that it was okay to be weird. 👍👍
John Belushi of Saturday Night Live was very much aware of Bob Wilkins ratings. He commented on it regularly. Creature features was in direct conflict with SNL as well as Carol Burnett. Bob Wilkins was great because he would do all kinds of things that could have gotten him fired like perusing the TV guide and suggesting that viewers watch something else. I'm from Liverpool and l was lucky regarding great magazines to collect. Not far from where l lived there was a fantastic shop, Bascombes, and they sold tons of American mags. Around 1959 to 1962 l collected every issue of FMF l could find. I treasured them highly. Then l left home at 18 and joined the Army. Returning home on my first leave l discovered my mother had binned all my American magazines and horror books collection, l was as sick as that proverbial parrot
Fun video however SHOCK THEATRE, that package of Universal classic horror films, was first released to TV in late 1957, not 1954-1955. Famous Monsters hit the stands about six months later in February, 1958.
Looks like there are some out there. But depends on what you mean by model. I think of a "model"as something you build yourself. What I see are figures that look like they are already built for you.

Loved Dark Shadows when I was a youngster. Jonathan Frid, the Shakespearean actor, portrayed Barnabas Collins perfectly. He looked sinister, too.

No, They didn't have sound unfortunately. Some of them did have Subtitles, And they were only a few minutes long.
