    A few tips I've found on my car.
    1. Loosen the bolts on the PPF on the transmission. Then raise the back of the transmission up to gain additional clearance to work at the back of the head.
    2. You can drill new holes in the radiator to move it forward. On my CX Racing radiator I was able to move it almost 0.5 inch forward. I just put some foam between the radiator and the upper core support to prevent rubbing.
    3. Be wary of wiring the fans together and running them through a single relay. That's a lot of amperage for a single relay.

      +Fuentes03 I'm really glad the work shows. Sometimes after 3 days of filming and 6+ hours of editing I wonder if a 13 minute video is worth the effort; but I'm pretty happy with the outcome on this one.

      i think it will be in the long run as long as you keep up the momentum. Even though youre going through familiar territory with the Miata (alot of channels started by doing Miatas), there's so much substance your videos have that others dont.

    Cool to see you rocking Gingiums shirt, I enjoy his material also. Glad that you covered the cooling reroute finally, just for the simple fact that a lot of people don't realize how weak the OE system is. Even a fully trimmed stock miata with the AC running on a hot day with a non observant driver can end up with a blown head gasket. Like you mentioned there are a range of re-route kits out there as well as radiator and fan combos. Just do research and find what is the best option for your budget and application. Great video quality, STREAM Lights are the shiz, Loved that you took the time to get good clear shots of all the hardware and parts. Looking forward to more content.

      +Yuuyia Takahashi Yeah just that top link on my site pretty much tells people exactly what to upgrade on their car and how to keep it cool, there's way more involved than 'throw in a huge radiator' haha. The built motor car will definitely be getting some serious attention when it comes to cooling.

    great video. Another good reason to use that insulating strip around the fan shroud is to reduce vibration noise. ever since putting the stiffer motor mounts in my Miata, the fan shroud has made an awful racket against the radiator. $8 worth of foam weatherstrip tape solved that in about 15 minutes.

    Just a note, if you don't have a timing light, you can simply mark the position of the CAS with a sharpie or pencil and it should be exactly back to where it was before. ;)
    It is important to remember how the key is aligned, but it's not the end of the world since it was designed to only fit in one way. I forgot and it took me a good 30 minutes to slide the CAS back on, but it did eventually go on and ran like a charm.

    To help with cooling you should also add a BUNCH of ducting
    Literally any air that's coming in should either be ducted to the rad or the intake
    But you can also add some hood venting to help with the release of that hot air
    Cooling is ALL about getting the air into and through the radiator and back out as efficient as possible

    Why add those extra points of failure/leaks with all the extra clamps n hoses? We split our (exact same kit) in 2 and also moved the thermostat a little forward.... And that shroud really works... We also grabbed the SPAL (?) fans, and an over-ride switch so I can run them at will....

      on the NB Miatas you can use a quick-splice to connect the AC Fan and Radiator Fan trigger wires to one another at the ECU. The trigger wires ground when active, so if the ECU calls for one fan, both relays get activated and both fans come on regardless of which fan is called for.

      +colingreczkowski, he did wire the fans together. but both of those bands together to pull way too many amps for the factory Car Harness to handle. Best run your own power wires off the alternator, with the heavier gauge of wire to a good heavy duty relay(i run a 100amp relay and 10 gauge wire) I just why are the relays power to the cars old fan harness. once you wire up the fans the new way those fans will sing!!!

    Honestly the radiator is fine, it does its job. but dont ever skimp out on fans. buy good ones, thats the mechanical part thats moving air. I made the mistake of cheaping out on fans in my turbo na. After a year, one fine day they skimped out on me, luckily i was paying attention, but one bad overheat and thats a head gasket or engine rebuild. Im running 11 inch spal fans now and they move some serious air and are super loud. I can hear them kick on from the engine bay and thats also good because i will know if they are working or not while out on a drive.

After trying to find one, I found out that the MSM DIDN'T COME WITH A BELLY PAN !!! So, I guess the logic that it is there for proper cooling and aerodynamics, isn't valid !?!? well, evidently the engineers at Mazda didn't think so, cause I aint got one !

    How big are those fans? The reason I ask is I have Flyin Miata's SPAL fan setup (Stage 2 airflow kit) and they include relays for the additional load, plus I added my own small time delay to help with the huge load from the fans. I ask because I'm not sure the wiring you're tapping into would be rated for that kind of power, especially with both fans on the circuit (stock only has one). It's quite possible you did your homework on this (lower amp draw fans?) I was just curious. Your videos are great, love 'em as a fellow Turbo Miata owner.

    The problem with those remote style thermostat housings is not flowing well to the thermostat. It just dead heads to it for the length between the heater hose and thermostat save for a very small amount of fluid that goes through the air bleed hole in the thermostat. When it dead heads it doesn't heat up the coolant at thermostat as soon which makes it take longer to get up to temp and can make hot spots.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  8 років тому

      I'm not worried about it, the companies that developed this kit have been racing Miatas for years and even run their own racing series (SuperMiata) along with building some of the meanest Miata motors around. I trust it. With the sensor in the rear housing I'd also see if that coolant was raising higher than the thermostat opening temp in my warm-up datalongs.

    • @ianm432
      @ianm432 8 років тому

      TheCarPassionChannel it's not an issue once the t state is open. It's a minor annoyance to me until then.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  8 років тому

      No I'm saying if the tstat is a 195* unit, if there was a delay in opening I should see higher than 195* temps in that back housing before the tstat opens right?

    • @ianm432
      @ianm432 8 років тому

      TheCarPassionChannel yep, but it probably doesn't actually matter that much. When I do mine I will pull the heater hose outlet from just before the remote tstat to circulate it. All so I can sleep at night because I'm a wing nut. Hahaha

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  8 років тому

    Can you tell me more about the side indicator you have on your passenger fender? I've seen a couple Miatas around here that have them too. I would assume it functions like the turn signal, but how? Did you just drill a hole in the fender and route some wires to the turn signal?

    for the adapter wire extension is some copper wire and heat shrink good enough or..? Maybe I'm paranoid but I definitely don't wanna mess up this whole job over some wires.
