Hi I'm Ann Reardon, How to Cook That is my youtube channel & it's filled with crazy, sweet creations made just for you. Today I attempt to follow a Bob Ross tutorial using chocolate ganache on a cake. 100% edible, yummy chocolate cake with orange syrup, butter cream, white chocolate ganache. Bob Ross did many, many seasons on TV, showing tutorial on how to paint quick, impressive landscapes using oil paint. Today there is no paint in sight, just chocolate ganache and hot cream to wash the brushes. You can also watch the Bob Ross tutorial that I am using 'Mighty Mountain Lake' here: • Bob Ross - Mighty Moun... . Join me for creative cakes, chocolate & desserts. New videos on Fridays.

Bob Ross was such a kind gentle soul. He would be proud to see that he inspired such a creative interpretation of his work.
He would have loved it! :v
He actually used to be a drill sergeant in the military. He turned to painting as a way to deal with his PTSD and to calm and relax him.
No offense but this isn’t that original (Rossana Pansino did something almost exactly the same but with frosting)
A Harry Potter Fan That wasn’t the point though? Someone asked if she could do it... So she did it...
Mariah Wester they said “creative inspiration” not really creative if something really similar was done a year ago
Ann: "I think it turned out OK.."
*Reveals a gorgeous landscape on a CAKE*
Me: She really IS the Bob Ross of cooking
Yessss!!! Lol😂

I was thinking the exact same thing!!
She has that sweet personality that makes you feel warm
Simona Repack NO
I love how casually she mentions that she MADE THE PALETTE. Out of WOOD. WITH A ROUTER.
Queen things 👏👌
I mean it is impressive but it's not that difficult of a thing to make
she probably makes her own air too
@@lacytheespeon517 i mean its not thet hard, i agree, but if you dont have much experience it gets a lot more difficult
I'd imagine that she does some woodworking to make the bases for some of her cakes.
Nobody’s talking about how she literally made her own paint pallet-
They hav e
It's not that hard, I once made one with my brother when I was 12
ikr
nobody talking about how she defined gravity by stacking cake verycally and then drawed ART on it
@Donut Wonders pallet, not canvas lol
Bob Ross would be so proud of you! He always said "Anyone can paint." Did you know he once made a painting in grayscale on his show, because a fan had said he couldn't paint because he was colorblind? Bob Ross is an international* treasure 💕💕
I also thought of how proud and tickled he would have been :)
Like in ratatouille
If it was a fan why would they hate on him?
Bob Ross is awesome!
@@falaq153 no, the fan was colorblind and he was sad because he thought he could never paint. Bob showed him that anyone can paint a beautiful picture, even in nothing but grayscale.
@@stephanievineyard2249 oh I thought the fan said Bob Ross was colourblind my bad ;-;
**hasn’t painted since high school** **doesnt have a canvas** **isnt even using paint** and still makes a masterpiece
Cake decorating is art. She is an artist through and through. *chef kiss *
Tbh all she did was follow a tutorial and the tutorial is easy to understand. I was gonna think of something nice to say about it, but I can’t think of anything. I’m not impressed.
Chicken tail 😅😅
@@chickentail7108 I can't follow an art tutorial, I have no talent. I am in awe of her abilities
@@chickentail7108 All right, lets see you do it.
My mom is an artist, and she was absolutely speechless when I told her about this and showed her the final result. She's very excited to try this!
I hope the cake doesnt go splat-
Cayla, you should tell your mum that there's an easier way to paint on cakes.
If she makes and ices the cake with the fondant, let's the fondant dry, then uses professional food colouring paste (available on line), diluting the food colouring with vodka or gin as needed, it's easy
You simply paint with the colours as you would with tube water colour, mixing the colours similarly
You can sketch the outline first (very lightly)in pencil, but don't apply any pressure
Also, you can't take out colour or use wet on wet,it has to right first time
It's like a cross between water colour and acrylic painting really
@@helentee9863 Thanks for the tip! My mom typically does pallet knife oil painting, and the ganache actually works really well with that style of painting. She's starting to get into water color though, so maybe we'll try that for the next cake.
that sponsorship segway was so smooth i almost didn't notice it
You mean _segue_ ? A _Segway_ is a personal transport device.
@@RToddJones yes lol, I actually learned the difference between the two shortly after making this comment but forgot to fix it

Bob Ross would be so proud of your cake, he loved seeing what people painted following his tutorials!
I'm sure he'd be absolutely tickled pink. Maybe he'd even ask her on the show.
But it’s made of fondant so even if it looks good i can’t imagine the taste.
@@wheatleythe_bigmoron_1179 Yeah, I can't stand fondant. If only she used marzipan or even the rice flour wrapping dough used on Bojagi cakes.
@@WolframiteWraith I've heard marzipan is expensive, maybe that's the why.
SunsetS Phoenix marzipan is also super overpowering, heavier and tends to break far more easily.
Ann, wonderful cake painting! So pretty! ❤️
Pro tip: if you add just the tiniest bit of purple to a creamy white, it will neutralize the yellow tone in the paint (or chocolate, in this case) and you’ll be left with a true titanium white!
Wow that’s really cool!
It works for buttercream too.
I was going to say that with paint add a little blue to white and it comes out whiter, a white that pops.
imagine bob ross just cutting in to his painting after hes done and eats it
That's what happens after filming.

When she cut that masterpiece cake, I was like “AHHHHHHHH”

What people expect their 20$ birthday cakes from the shop to look like:
This video made me so happy. Bob was someone I watched with my father as I was a kid and he remains a calm, yet powerful inspiration to this day. Bob always says there were no mistakes, only happy little accidents. He would have loved your canvas of choice, and it's beautiful, no excuses necessary.
Ann is the master of DIY. She's like "I don't have this, so I'll make it myself". Meanwhile, I have a mental breakdown after the second step of an Ikea manual.
Oh, honey, everyone does. Unless you have an engineer willing to help. Seriously, why does almost everything IKEA sells have to be assembled at home? Deliver it already assembled! 😡
Katie Shimkus i am 197th like

I am so proud of you, you made it to step 2 before having a breakdown.

Step one: Move to Australia.
Step two: Somehow manage to become Ann's neighbor.
Step three: Wait for random cake.
Step four: Profit (by eating said random cake).
AND THAT'S THE TEA
Right?!
I dont get it
I have a neighbor the drops of random cookies.
Can I come too? I'm willing to sacrifice myself eating a ton of random leftover cake!
'its no where near as good as the bob ross painting"

bob ross: reallly push that paint in there
Ann: I CANT IM USING CAKE!
I love that she actually uses real cake unlike cake boss who makes “cakes” that are 99% rice crispy treat and 1% fondant
Well, you're not gonna hear me complaining about a fondant covered Rice Krispy Treat.
Yep! Finally, an actual cake
And only makes actual cakes for weddings etc etc.
The Italians dont claim them (even though I'm not Italian) they don't claim him
Vanessa Walsh Lol i probably wouldn’t either but if you saw this awesome cake made by cake boss and cut it only to find rice crispy instead of cake is pretty disappointing
Well that is usually because they are making very big cakes for events and such. They sectioned off a piece of the dessert for sliceable cake but if the whole desser was fully cake it wouldn’t be stable enough, and when you cut into it would collapse
Just me or did anyone else freak out when she cut into it?
Just me... Okay
OMG thank you Ann!!

It hurt my pride lmao
And it's made out of ganache!
I actually learned alot about being a more patient person from Bob Ross, he was a truly great man. Also I love cake
I think your scene is GORGEOUS! It's beautifully done.
"I'd like to know what my finished cake is going to look like rather than just make it up as I go along." That was the genius of Bob. He could imagine a scene in his mind and put it to canvas, or just make up a scene using the same basic techniques. A lot of people think that he only painted mountains and streams, and that's because as someone who grew up in Florida and ended up in Alaska at one point, he found the mountain landscapes in Alaska to be majestic and magical. But when you watch more of his series, you see that he has done all sorts of landscapes, waterfalls, and even ocean horizon scenes.

The forest and the water are also both very well painted too, they look almost like a photo lol.
For apparantly not painting much, you did amazing at it!

Fun fact: Each Bob Ross painting actually has three versions. One painted ahead of time for a reference, the second being the one made in the video, and the third is made for instructional books. I always thought it was cool he could replicate the same painting three times in a row.
In the documentary its revealed that Bob likes to joke with the cameraman that he "doesn't know what's going to happen next" because the reference version is just out of the frame.
Aww yay I learned new things to love about Bob Ross
That must be annoying to paint the same things.
Well about that I also heard that they are slight differences. Not placement but like more shade on one side or a more detailed tree and stuff like that
Ryy not really. It can be annoying if you’re anal about the differences tho. Bc no two paintings are going to be completely identical. Otherwise repetition is just practice, something all artists do.

I know right

You really Should give it a try I was never into painting until I took a painting class in college and it’s definitely not as hard as it seems. With painting it’s a simple form of art you don’t need to go crazy with the details you put some white next to some grey with a sponge and you get puffy clouds. And the best thing is that you can have your own style you could make a bob rose inspired painting in your own artistic style you can add sand and other things to add interesting textures as well which is one of my favorite things to do.
I'm kinda good at sketches but painting is out of my league *TwT*

Ann, as an artist myself let me tell you those clouds look perfectly realistic to me. Tbh with clouds, the more imperfect they are the more realistic they look. the cloud on the right (when facing the piece) is my personal favorite cloud.
I thought the mountains were wonderful
yeah, they may not be perfect but there's many types of clouds, and not all of them will be perfect and fluffy. a bit of imperfection can be good if you're making smth natural
@A horrible person depending on your medium, clouds become easier. With acrylic it's a bit more difficult due to drying times. Doing a sort of "negative cloud" technique where you lay light color and blend a medium tone then add shadows with your darkest tone. Watercolor can be hard but with pretty much the same method as acrylic they come out soft and blended.
@A horrible person Ah, I never really did backgrounds when I used colored pencils. Whatever works though, I prefer using watercolors the most so that's what I have the most knowledge in.

yep! beautiful high-quality art is nice, and by no means should people stop making it... but the "quality" or beauty of art doesn't matter all that much, in the grand scheme of things. humans are naturally inclined to making art as a form of self-expression and enrichment - there's no point in beating yourself up because your art isn't good enough, in the same way that there's no point beating yourself up because your casual soccer-playing skills aren't as good as the pros. it doesn't matter if you're good - what matters is that you're enjoying yourself.
it's good to push yourself a bit, sure - it'll give you a nice challenge, and is a good chance to learn and improve - but pushing yourself too far and holding yourself to standards you can't meet will just cause burnout. sometimes, you just need to accept that something you've made didn't turn out quite as you envisioned, because otherwise you might hurt yourself trying to correct it. there's always the option of leaving it for now, and coming back to it when you've had more time to develop as an artist.
(plus, if nobody made "bad" art, we'd have no new artists! everyone starts somewhere, and with a few exceptions, that starting point usually isn't what people consider "good". i started out drawing animals that looked like an arrangement of tubes, lol)
Ok can I just say that goes without saying. Like who cares if it’s better than his or not, like it’s still better then I could do and out of chocolate like wow. So there’s no point saying it’s nowhere near as good bc I’m my view it is near as good and she did it with chocolate.
