I saw Randy's last show in Knoxville, Tennessee. The next morning, I was on my way to a freshman college class and heard on the radio that he was killed in the plane crash. I was gobsmacked. I witnessed greatness that night and I will never forget it.

I saw Randy Live in 1982 on The Diary Tour in Detroit. Trust me he sounded like 3 guitars at one time. He was phenomenal and after seeing hundreds of concerts since that day I can whole heartedly say Randy was The Best Guitar virtuoso I have ever seen. Can u imagine having and being apart of this band where even the other members are looking over when Randy is ripping out something theyve never heard before and you all know that this isnt normal , were a part of something we cant even fathom right now ? And you wake up and before the days even begun you hear the unthinkable news that its gone . I cant imagine that . Or that they now had this huge tour to finish.i dont think i could have. The thing that amazes me about his solo here is despite playing very fast he is still able to pluck each individual note with a lot of consideration towards intensity, vibrato, and tone. It adds that special bite to the solo that really makes it stand out.

Yes and I'll add Rhoads had good timing, in the he always knows exactly where in each bar he is playing what, despite a lot of changes in the pace of the notes. He can sort of speed up or slow down on note passages and it doesn't sound out of time, at lest not usually. I think that would be very hard to do, and be convincing. Practice obviously!

My best friend in the world is Randy Rhoad's half-brother. I had the pleasure of meeting Randy Rhoads on two occasions during his heyday working with Ozzy Osborne. He was staying at my best friend's house with his father for a two week layover from touring. Randy was exhausted and slept for the first two days! Randy uses every single guitar technique so fluidly and perfectly, there’s no doubt that some would think that some parts were dubbed in. He is the pinnacle of metal guitar. Let’s not forget his song writing abilities. He wrote all of these classic riffs. All of these classic solos. All of these classic songs. He understood how to build a song into something people want to listen to. He had a real pop sensibility. Just a natural talent for hearing what a great riff or song sounded like. To me he’s the best. The total package. These songs will be played 100 years from now.

When UA-cam started up I was more impressed cause when you watch him play .. Randy doesn't look at his left hand to see where it is .. Its all touch .. I know as every one else that his time here was to short .. But Randy will remain as one of or may be the one Rock guitar god of all time .. Wish I had 1/4 th of his talent ... ... ... I can totally understand how transferring the video from VHS to DVD could result in some off-timing between the audio and video. Tape is very difficult because of like you explained Fil, just a bit faster or slower can make it nearly impossible to replicate. Very cool that the Bass player came forward with the answer to our mystery here. And the Marshalls are prop amps possibly, which explains why they appeared to be off. Sleuthing is very cool. Thumbs up!

Definitely one of the great guitar players of all-time. Never stopped learning, always approached it with a fresh attitude, was never afraid of learning a new style or genre of playing, was in love with his instrument and always sought out other teachers on the road to learn something new. That's how you do it kids, along with 10,000+ hours of practice. I still got 9,999 to go, lol. Oh yeah, as far as the off sync thing, that's why among audiophiles the "source material" is so valued and so important. Without that original equipment that made that source tape then you're likely never going to get a 1-for-1 reproduction.

RR is the number one reason I picked up a guitar in the first place...nearly 30 years ago. I've drifted away from metal since but I still love listening to him play. It's not just speed. He has this clever way of throwing in those dirty blues notes along with a super classical style. What else can I say? A great guy gone way too soon. I owe RR my life. Guitar got me through some tough spots and I may never have learned without that inspiration. If I had a TARDIS, seeing him live would be top of my list.

@Spot Turtle: I didn’t discover Doctor Who until the 10th Doctor (I was too young before). Fascinated with the idea of time travel, those episodes caused so many flights of fantasy for me. Then Matt Smith became the 11th Doctor, and I so wanted him to marry River Song. My brothers would hit me if I ever said that out loud. He is the Doctor, after all. I rather liked Clara too, but I imagined how I would have behaved differently from her if I were in her place.
Perhaps I should watch more of the older episodes. Tom Baker was the 4th Doctor, no?

@@geloradananrlyeh8495 yeah the 4th... His stuff is the best of the classics imo. You do have to get into the story though as the "special effects" are non-existent. Baker is a great actor though and the stories well written. Douglas Adams was one of the writers and even the head writer or editor for a bit. The whole " don't panic" thing was first used in Baker's doctor. It was a little before my time but as a kid we got reruns on the public Tele station. So he was the first Doctor I had ever seen. All of the new Doctors definitely borrowed from his. He was brilliant and aware of it and let others know it, but he was also childlike and playful. There's no mistaking that all the good Doctors after him were influenced by him. Good stuff for sure. And he was the Doctor for 7 years. There's no shortage of episodes with Baker. I hope you watch it and enjoy it as much as I do.

There’s so much mystery, silence, refusal to admit just how much control and input he (Randy Rhodes) had and what his background for playing was, the level of education, training and raw ability. Randy Rhodes has gotten his due ever since I was able comprehend his impact, prior schooling before BS, Quiet Riot and OZZY catapulted him. Thank you for all you make available. In years to come, I hope he continues to recirculate to new generationsd of astounded fans, gets the recognition he deserves. To say he was groundbreaking doesn’t incapsulate his talent or effort fully.

Tell me how many of those hundreds will still be talked about 30 years after their death... tell me how many of them will have songs that are so iconic they are in movies, sporting events and the encore for world tours? We get it... there are guitar technique wizards out there... Berklee and MIT wiz kids but the problem is most of them have no impact when they play. Its fast elevator music. No depth or soul. Randy isnt just an icon because he played the fastest or was the most complex. he's an icon because he's the finest known example of technique, composing, phrasing, song writing, and rock anthems combined into one player to ever exist. Crazy train is arguably the best most recognizable rock song ever recorded. His music has stood the test of time. Very very few players no matter how skilled can say that... there are only 2 or 3 players in contemporary music to be able to make that claim. Eddie, Hendrix, SRV, Beck, Page and randy... that's about the list.
