    I am 9 years in the Philippines and all that you say I learned as well, except for the ex-pat thing because I have never socialized much with ex-pats, I came to the Philippines to get away from the drama of ex-pats, all they do is complain, just like back home. The reason I live in the Philippines and married a Filipina is because I live a stress-free life. No complaining and only love is in my house. I have a great life here because I simplify what I do.

    Regrets...I worked in startups most of my career which means failure was almost a daily thing. We didn't fear failures. It's how we learned in order to beat competitors and let us know we were pushing...a good thing. A regret is something that stays with a person, it becomes part of a person, piling up, weighing down a person. A failure is something you experience, understand, and continue moving forward. I can't list my failures because they have been forgotten. I still have the lessons learned. So yeah, I can honestly say I have no regrets. Everything I've done in life has gotten me here in a wonderful life.

    I get lots of skin cancers, lived in Makati 2/3 of the time for 10 years, I went to a dermatologist. Ned, I’m with you on the trusting other expats thing. When I first considered moving there I immediately started hunting down all the expats in our area trying to make friends. Turns out most of them were really horrible people and the locals were much better friends. I started to understand why the locals had a bad opinion of expats. I fixed that just by being me lol. Rose had the same experience coming to the US. Hunting Filipinos. Anywhere in the world it’s the same. Be careful who you call friend and don’t limit the people you consider to 1 group. That’s my regret also 👍

      It was simple for me when I first came to the Philippines to live, 9 years ago , my main objective was to find a wife so my focus was hanging out with Filipina and their family and as time went by the only interaction I had with any ex pat was hearing them complaining about the Philippines, I just didn't agree with them , now I have found my wife and have been here over 9 years and married for 5, what foreigner friends I have are the same as me and love the place and its people

      @craigsphilippines466 3 роки тому

      Really horrible people you say, WOW ! where did you live and how long did you live in the Philippines ? these are questions I would like to know, to start with, most ex-pats you meet don't live in the Philippines a lot are only visiting, many ex-pats who manage to live a good life in the Philippines shows character and a certain personality, it's not easy and by the sounds of it you didn't stay very long, if you came to where I live and meet us local ex-pats you will find a fantastic bunch of guys, who most have married Filipina and who have businesses and are decent honest people, the foreigners that are assholes are usually the tourists because the assholes don't last long, yes I have met plenty of complaining ex-pats but I kept away from them, but to paint a broad stroke over all the Philippines and say only you is a good guy makes you seem arrogant.

    You do great youtube work Ned .Congratulations on your content , as a tourist many times to the Philippines over the last ten years with my wife i can see why foreigners want to sell up everything and live far away from their old country. In my tourist view I have seen how beautiful the beaches are and how badly overcrowded the big cities are. Looking at the country as a tourist there was never ever the faintest possibility of living in The Philippines in any circumstances whatsoever. I have never considered staying longer than the two or three weeks when i have been there as a tourist , Hopefully the ex pats do all their homework and work out the right things to do .Looks a lot like you have it all worked out and full credit to you . Because you are technical and well researched, I'd love to see a dedicated video about the double mistake of buying your two Filipino branded scooters. Is it repair costs, usability, depreciation? I'm looking at a Yamaha Aerox 155 with ABS (new). I saw a full breakdown of it from a guy who bought an Aerox 155 (I think without ABS) new, maintained it well, and sold it 16 months after he bought it new. This was in Thailand where it costs about 10% less to buy. His monthly costs including insurance, registration, maintenance, repairs, "car" washes, fuel, and depreciation came to only $48/month over those 16 months. And a 16 month or younger Yamaha is not going to need any repairs unless you "drop" it. For a headache free machine with 155 CCs, I'd pay $48/month all in.
    It would be interesting to hear your story on your two Filipino branded scooters versus your experience & costs with your Click 125. Also, does the Click 125 do ok if you go into the mountains & hills with a passenger on the back. All good stuff to know.

    I am mostly really sad that I have to listen to really bad Karaoke from many directions at the same time (highly amplified). I think that technology is coming into the Philippines faster than the structure to help guide it. Everyone has a smart phone so just download a Db meter and learn. There is going to be a hole generation of children that will be growing up suffering from hearing loss. The Philippines is a great place to live and my life and health has improved so much that it is noticeable....

      I heard this from many, but never had it clarified? In Australia, we have 240Vlt appliances. I have sent a few small items over, with conversion plugs. But they say dont bring your tv's, pc's and music systems right? Phils is 220Vlts? Better to just buy when there?

    Man if those are the worst Philippine related regrets you have a pretty good life there. Granted sun exposure and bad sunglasses not good but that can happen in any sunny region.
    Most of these could happen elsewhere.
