I can’t help but think about lsd while listening to this album. I’ve listened to it while tripping many times and I have to say the sounds and noises are very reminiscent of some of the things you may hear and feel while on psychedelics
I think he is saying the album's concept is about death masks. And more than half of the residents of manhattan walk around like they are wearing death masks as if they are dead inside already.
Matt Thomas I agree but only interpreted it that way after I read it as a poem. And I can’t say I agree. I was in NYC recently and found it very lively and refreshing and full of alert, aware and interesting people. Anyway who can blame them for living alone with space at such a premium ? And if they’re bored or lonely there’s always someplace to go and something to do. Now if you want to talk about dead souls etc come up to Boston and enjoy our hard and bitter social life. To be able to live in NY and then bitch about it thusly simply won’t do. Point of etiquette - I’ve been scolded on this site for using the term ‘Krautrock’ though it never seems to bother any Germans and nor should it. If anyone mentions Krautrock it usually follows that they like it. But can someone tell me; are Krautrock and Kosmische synonyms?
@@teddydog6229 NYC is the most packed place I've lived in yet but can be the loneliest. Just because there's a lot going on doesn't necessarily mean you don't feel lonely. It's a strange place--the wealth of choices out there make it more difficult to choose and commit to something. It's actually a proven behavioral psychology point. If there are two choices of yogurts in the market, it's easy to choose and the ability to make decision for yourself motivates you. If there are a dozen choices yogurts, people actually get frustrated and many times end up not buying at all... From my behavioral economics class back in college. definitely some good melodic and genre-related ideas, but because it's british music their compositions have no rhythmic texture - they're essentially ignoring half of the compositional tools available to them. not a bad band by any stretch, but they can't really be good i'm a jazz-trained musician, but i don't really play jazz anymore and i think it's an important genre, but not a very good one because "pure" jazz (unfused with other genres) has a similar problem to british music - it largely ignores melody. they don't generally have a mastery of the "swing" style which was invented by black people in the US. i like a lot of british bands, but they have a ceiling in terms of what they can do because of their obsession with melody/ignorance of rhythm. same thing happens melodically with british classical music interestingly enough.
You mean like a bot-fly - the album gets into your noggin' and wiggles around in there, driving you crazy? Sort of like an "ear-worm"? I don't find his work THAT catchy, it takes a while before for the gems to stand out for me, but you obviously have a more refined sense. They eventually fly away, but you could try digging them out with a set of garden shears or maybe a power drill, I'm not a Doctor though...🐛
Just when i thought it couldnt get better than Loop Finding Jazz records, I finally hear this gem. Fantastic
Bangers all around. Since 2005. Can't believe I found it in 2022
one of the best producers around.
Album art is as magical as the music. Very nice... also appreciate the bravado of opening the record with possibly the most challenging tune.
Maybe Fomes or Fomitopsis

“This is about as good as music gets” is something I think every time I hear one of Jan’s pieces of music. Excellent stuff.

No.
A1 - perfectly pushes the right sonic buttons without copying anything much.,.,., great amazing love it!
if i had my way the youtube algorithm would boost this to the top of every feed
@Miguel Cisneros I don't appreciate your comment at all. Write something about the music or the algorithm, but don't insert your politics.
can't believe I'm getting trolled on a Jan Jelinek record. FML

Ive been looking for this for quite some time now. Thank you
The aesthetic inspiration derives from the concept of death masks.
Today more than half of the residents of Manhattan live alone
I don't really understand your comment. The two sentences seem disconnected (?)
Same man and I've read it already 20 times haha

predictable loops + prefab samples = quite boting
nothing better than a nice boting album!
Maybe it's not intended to be wildly exciting.... but if you think it is "boting", then that might be fair enough.
Not as ground breaking as his 2001 "Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records" album, but still exciting and very much of its time.

Nothing predictable. Loops that circle, wind, rewind and refine themselves. Jelinek is dope as hell and a master of sound as far as I'm concerned
