  • We finally got the 1000 rounds through our Kimber R7 Mako! We ran all kinds of ammo and bullet weights. Check out the results of our testing. Is this a hidden gem or just a run of the mill striker fired CCW.

    I've been carrying mine since they were released. Glad you have a 1,000 round review on it!

    Thank you for the very nice family review. I’ve had my Mako for about a year and about 1500 rounds, so I really enjoy seeing other options. It’s got a fair kick so I end up shooting better with one leg back a bit as I see you do. Regarding racking the slide without much slide space to grip, I’ve found the red dot mount is really strong with no problems grabbing the slide over the frame against the red-dot with the weak hand and pushing the grip through with the other hand to rack it the slide. Or turn my hand over traditionally and pull the slide back by the red-dot. Both seem to work and the sight is staying on target. The Mako slide is easier to rack than some, but the Keltec P17 22LR is way easier and its a really fun pistol to shoot especially with the factory red dot! Cool range to practice on!

      Thank you! I think the R7 Mako is a real hidden gem that doesn't get enough love honestly. The slide design protects the optic and functions great once broken in.

      @@FamilyFirearmReviews Not really, I'm in pretty good shape. I still work out,and have fairly strong hands from growing up an athlete, plus working with them.Luckily no arthritis yet.

    I have some trouble with my PPQ because I'm handcipped and I have one working arm to a stroke in '99. I have two Beretta pistols and I can clear them one if I have bad round but they have hammered fire. I'm planning on getting more Beretta pistols.

      It's a great concealed carry option. They have a lot of good packages out now with multiple mags. It's one I have in my carry rotation for sure.

    The ejection port is different but a good idea. I have never really heard of these. I thought Kimber was only good for 1911's

      I have one and love it. Purchased used with 2 Mags. The package deal offered now is fantastic. Three free mags (total of 5 Magazines), Kimber range bag and holster for $529.00 at Bass Pro Shops. I know this is going to sound crazy I'm thinking of buying a 2nd one. Someone please stop me from buying a 2nd one😉

      The ejection port is a necessity of the locking lug being at the rear of the chamber. Exactly the same as the BB Techs BB6 and the Bibix Bro.

      @@FernandoChaves Kimber says they did this, having an old-school right side only ejection port as opposed to using a standard barrel/breech configuration with an open top, to keep debris off the lens of your optic - no venting gases or brass into the lens of your slide-mounted optic.

      @@shooting_sports I know what they said. Go look at the guns I spoke of. And check out the locking lug. I am not kidding. Then feel free to respond about the locking lug location. It decreases barrel tilt, reduces muzzle flip, and increases reliability. Not a guess. Not kidding. Go research the patents if you like.

    The hooded ejection port is not there to protect the optics. It is there because the locking lug is at the rear of the chamber. This results in less barrel tilt and increased reliability.

    • @FernandoChaves
      @FernandoChaves 10 місяців тому

      @@UncouthJosef Interesting notion. Are you familiar with the Taurus TS9, BB Techs BB6, and Bubix Bro? You might want to have a look. You will notice the TS9 is not optics cut. The pistol is quite famous and extremely well known for reliability, and it is not optics cut. It does have the hooded ejection port. The hooded chamber is required on these pistols because of the locking lug being at the rear of the chamber, unlike a Browning action. The barrel does not need to drop as much, move as much, to lock and unlock. This is intended to result in less barrel tilt, less muzzle flip, and increased reliability. This is not unique to the Kimber and was already previously known for the characteristics I have stated. Not speculating.
