- Draw with me and practice gesture drawing with 20 and 40 sec. poses. Gesture drawing is fundamental to creating expressive and dynamic poses. By doing quick gesture drawings, you'll learn how to draw what's most important in a pose-- the main angles, balance, motion, and flow-- without getting caught up in the details at first.

I have never enjoyed something like this before LOL the pressure of being timed 😂
Glad you had fun, Aaron!
agree
I had to slow it down to 0.5x and had it play it back a little but it’s still good video .
I don’t like being rushed either
Extremely helpful and can’t wait to do the 20 sec thing after school man
It is the only thing extra i recommend doing is
Draw the curve of the spine or line of action in the beginning
Who’s watching this during class
SLADE?! DECHIROITO SUMASHUUUU
No one cared about my reference :(
@@devss4982 *Opens door* Ya winning son?
Aaaah that was fun! Though my gesture drawings looked like enderman 🤣
Same XD
True, mine too
@Jasiah Dean BOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Mine looked like a turd
I've recently started gesture drawing and I'm so slow that even when I go fast, I dont finish the drawing. I'm still learning though and taking my art a lot more seriously than I did in the past, and this video actually helped a lot in making me realize what to focus on.
I'm trying to shorten the timer from 300 seconds, seeing it done in 20 was shocking but I cant wait to try the 20 / 40 timers!
Sounds great, Alexander! It's cool that you've found your own pace for learning and practicing. It's like training for sports-- start slowly and then begin to work on more challenging things as you progress.
One year has passed. How has your drawing skills progressed? :D
I am also a slow artist and recently had to return to the fundamentals to get my speed up: that's why I'm here! I hope you've benefited from practicing gesture drawing Alexander :D
try just doing the line of action with some silhouetting
@@avatar098they gave up
this is just some note for my myself .
When doing gesture drawing. The story is added to the paper meaning you dont just copy what the figures doing but essentially translating the story of the pose. This is why gesture drawing is complex more than any fundamental because it need the knowlegde as for story teller.Luckily for artist,The gesture drawing have simpilified by many methodlogy that we can use.Note that it isnt a technic,a stylitic drawing but rather its a component and fundamental to draw the human figure. There are no technic when doing gesture it just depends on you how you want to translate the obejct of you're looking,Not just the human figures(trees,Cloud,or even your everyday object has gesture on it).Its one of the perfect way to communicate.when you're doing this type of gesture try to capture the flow of rhytms of the object rather than capturing the big picture. Its not easy because we tend to go for details.Details will make us feel ease but its not enough to communicate our mind to the paper(story).
WOW that was really helpful. Thanks for the note. I really appreciate it and would definitely try incorporating this important element in my next gesture drawings.
Thank you once again !!!!!
I get the story thing, but I don't think gesture is more complex than other fundamentals. On the opposite, I think that beginners should start with gestures before getting into the specific anatomy, just like babies babble before learnings sounds, words, sentences, etc
Jas Bataille yea i agree . gesture can be simple but complex depends on how you use them as a foundation of the figures. but,if someone learn the academics of art they will see gesture in many different kinds of variations. it includes foreshortening, bending twisting motion, exaggerations and many more. but fear not, gesture isnt gonna come to an end ,it will always be used for any kind of things in art. tbh it takes me a while to get them properly and as i improve the anatomy of my figure . i add variation to my gesture foundation with a C curve at lower for example indicating the tibia.
I have 10 min. school break and was wondering ‘man, I should do some gesture drawing’. Right on the dot, koizu.
gesture drawings are perfect for breaks!
It takes me like 3 hours to make a pose and this man does it in 20 seconds.
Definitely gonna give this a try, very helpfully
Awesome, sounds great, Hazhatake! Have fun
No way I’ve waited 6 years
The king has returned
thank you for waiting all these years! Hope these videos have been worth the wait :)
Return of the king. It’s so great that you’re back man.
I loved it! It was so amazing! When I draw, I tend to overthink and therefore my drawings aren't so loose or natural. This challange helped me so much, I didn't have time to think, I just drew by instinct and I'm quite pleased with the results! Thank you so much! :)))
Great to hear, Eszter! Thank you for sharing! Gesture drawings are fun to do and like you mentioned, helps you to get nice and loose drawings with good flow. Not having time to think also sharpens your instincts. Glad you enjoyed it :)
i've watched so many of these videos but for some reason this one felt more pressuring to the point that it made me draw my gestures differently. this was a really cool learning experience, i understand the flow of action just a little bit more i think. thank you
*sniff*
It was so hard to forget you... now that you're back, i'm falling in love all over again
This was so fun and one of the few practices I could actually feel myself learning as I went. I started breaking people down into lines or action and focusing on the more important aspects first. I will definitely be using this for my warmups!
Just getting into figure drawing and I feel like this has been the most helpful yet. Definitely worth a like and subscribe 👍
This idea is insanely helpful! Also it gives us an idea of the type of references to use while trying to study anatomy and poses. Great content, love it.
From my first time watching this, one thing I noticed was how you started the head and the line of action taking place, and just adding, without focusing on details. I used to just draw, what I see, and I would take too much time on each thing, like the head, part of the body, or detail, rather than getting the pose down. This video really does help. and I appreciate you for doing that!
I've been wanting to do gesture drawings and haven't done them in forever this video really helped me practice it. Thank you
This video is sooo amazing. I love that we can draw along and practice together with you just by watching the video. Please do more like these!
one of the best videos watched during my learning of fast sketching. Very thoughtfully recorded, not a second felt like wasted! good job sir.
Thank you sir because of you I learned that it's not about the detail or how clean and realistic your drawing is,but about simplisty and having, although it takes me like a minute to draw some thing like yours.and that's from me because I try to do a figuer then go around it
this really helped with my gesture poses! thank you man I figured out that I tended to focus on details too much, so this really helped me go faster and work on the main details :)
Honestly I've been trying to find a better way to do gesture drawing and I really enjoyed this. Yes my drawings weren't the same as theirs but it still gave my drawings a natural look. I feel like if i practice this more i can body gesture then anatomy and really get the human form down no one can stop me. Thank you so much :)
This is a good exercise for really loosening up, as well as how to quickly identify the basic line(s) of form & build from it. Think I will keep doing this exercise!
It's so good to see you back making videos. I started watching you years ago, and it's good to see you're still going strong!! Keep up the great work!
thanks for the encouragement, pskibobby! Will do!
This looks inspiring and interesting to try.
Your videos are really helpful! I'm still very much a beginner, but I've gotten so much better just by following along with your tutorials and videos like these. Really good stuff!
Koizu you're awesome man. I've been in this tutorial for less than a minute and your advice is to the point helpful
the gesture at 3:03 min blew my mind!! you've captured it so well
I'm glad I found this channel! I'm taking my first sketching class this semester and I've been so nervous to draw. :)
this was incredibly helpful! it's helping me come to terms with the fact that my sketchbook isnt my portfolio and i have to push myself
PLS DO MORE OF THESE!! THESE IS SUPER HELPFUL OMG
this was so much fun!!! please do more videos like this, I really enjoyed it ♡
I really enjoyed this video. It helps a lot. I would try to predict which whole curve of the pose you would prioritize with your first few lines, because those are the lines that are really going to define your pose. This is such a great practice for observational skills as well as drawing!
Whoa ! I use to watch you back in 2014 glad you’re still making videos
Explaining things like this, along with your other videos really help, thanks. Great teacher.
Happy to help, IronicalIrony!
I really loved the pressure of the timer! Would be great if you uploaded more of these types of practices :) Thank you for your work!
Thanks, Holo! I'm sure I will do more like these in the future
This video helped a lot.Focusing on what is important for anatomy other than the details first.
i loved this exercise! please do more videos like this!
this was really incredible practice - loved the lack of judgement and just the good vibes to keep trying
thank you so much!! this helped me step out of my comfort zone. i normally struggle with overthinking but this helped a lot
This was exactly what I was looking for and needed. Thank you!
this was really fun to follow! I hope you make more of these.
all of mine turned out so bad, but i havent found myself enjoying art in a long time. thanks, it really was helpful.
THIS is exactly what I have been waiting for ,love the video idea 😁
Once i spend hours doing gesture drawing and after that my drawings and poses from imagination just improved so much, is really useful If you don't know how make different poses.
I’m definitely going to to attempt this as I’m trying to improve my art skills
The last pose was the hardest! This is so fun to do, thank you so much for the time you put into it
The legs confuse my brain. Lol.
Exactly what i'm looking for!
It's really interesting to watch you do these! You go in with a completely different approach than I do and it's fascinating to see. Awesome work!
Thanks, Illustessa!

I've been doing figure drawings for a couple of weeks but they get boring for me. Listening to your enthusiasm makes it much more fun and relaxing, thanks
I have done one and two minute poses before but never 20 seconds. This was surprisingly fun. I am going to do more of the 20 seconds
Thank you ! Was so fun !
You’re so inspiring and motivational thank you that was a very cool exercice
I was reading chemistry and then ur video popped up on my phone and I started drawing with u.

My Man uploads videos consistently now 😍😄 im happy about it after your 6 years break and 1 year break also your poses are good if i draw that its Will take 30 minutes
this was really fun!! thank you
Omg had so much fun! I never thought I would capture the gesture better and with smoother lines with the time limit ! I used to hesitate a lot , there were gestures that i thought i would never dare to try drawing them ,yet I did 😆 thank you for the tips and for this amazing and inspiring video❤❤
So awesome to hear, Yatsufusa! Thanks for sharing! You're on your way now with gestures :)
@@koizu *^* all thanks to you 🙏🖤🖤
Glad that you're back, ure probably the first youtuber that actually made me able to draw back my anime characters back then lol

Thank you so much for this video. Drawing along with you just gave me confidence and rays of hope that I will get better at Gesture ( i was kinda struggling with it actually ).
Your video is much simpler and Fun to try out than any videos I have came across.
I am really looking forward for such videos.
It would be so cool to draw along with you during LIVE. Like a DRAW-ALONG-WITH-ME kind of video.
Thanks, Aakankshya! Glad the video helped! Gesture drawing takes some time to get used to but gets easier the more you practice. You can also set your own pace and take your time with it. There's no rush :)
awesome, i like that you did it in real time!
Your art style is very comforting to watch
oh thank you very much, Trey!

THIS IS SO FUN TO DO OMG
I did that quite a few times before but its been a while, so thanks :)
Cool but mine really sucked
who cares except you, if every gesture drawing was perfect, you wouldn't need to practice.
Please post a part 2 of this it’s so helpful and fun
This is something i am looking for you made difficult drawing so easy now going to practice very very helpful. please keep uploading drawing tutorials.
LOVE THIS
you teach very well, thank youu it helped a lot
Wow, this was rough and a mess on my side. I had an issue trying to make my lines flow. I focus too much on the details even though I’m trying not to and by the time I realize the timer’s up. I can feel these exercises helping, will continue. Thank you.
Thank you so much for these videos. I’m a beginner and this is very helpful
Happy to help, Axel!
