It shows that while Gordon is much more arrogant and full of himself in his youth, he's not a bad engine. He does care for the tank engines. He just gets annoyed with them at times and let's his ego get the better of him. It's very satisfying to see him grow and form firm bonds with them, particularly Thomas, later on.
I like how the line is very ambiguous. Gordon could either genuinely want to see Thomas prove himself or Gordon could just be saying that sarcastically.
I don't know why but I feel like this is my favourite dynamic for the main cast. Thomas is the young one who's verry arrogant and full of himself, Edward is old yet respected, James is the hotshot trying to impress the others, thinking he's up there with Gordon and Henry even though the two big engines beg to differ. Both Henry and James are very much "Gordon's grunts" in a sense but they only really see his arrogant and egotistical side, not really knowing that despite Gordon's appearance and way of putting things he does care and want to see the other engines like Thomas grow, kind of like a tough loving father figure. A neat example is when Gordon remarks that Thomas was doing a fabulous job at shunting the coaches, James and Henry seem to take it as though he's poking fun at Thomas and despite entertaining the idea, Gordon likely did mean it as a compliment rather than an insult.
Henry and Gordon: 😂 Henry: "I didn't know "The Red Rocket" used such profanity in front of passengers." James: "Hey, sod off, Henry, I hope you crash and die, you sick cow!" 😠
We need someone to make a movie of just stuff like this. Take the old stories as a base, write dialogue like this that is both true to the way coworkers and friends actually talk to each other but still true to the spirit of the original stories, take out the narrator, maybe add some music cues for scene changes, and you've got the start of something that could work. It's like the dialogue from TUGS combined with the Railway Series.
“I worked my ass for all you people, and this is the thanks I get?” Mixed with “I spend my time pulling coaches about ready for you to take out on journeys!”
I know you said these vids are the "In an alternate reality, everyone likes Edward and nobody likes Thomas because he's annoying." But seeing this. Everyone (Except Edward ofc) is very hotheaded and rude to each other. But the last line when Gordon says "I'd like to hope some day you do." Does that mean he somewhat cares for Thomas?
Thinking about this for a few days, whether it was intentional or not, when James says to Henry- "I hope you crash and die you sick cow." that could connect with Henry's Flying Kipper crash. Presumably Henry is still in his old shape in this scene and in the Flying Kipper episode from season 1, it actually was James who was sent to clear up the wreck with the breakdown train. Perhaps that could be another video? James catches Henry having another mishap and being a goods engine, it could give James a leg up to get back at him.
Why is Gordon saying "I'd like to hope some day you do..." actually really heartwarming? I love it so much🥺
With bit of mischief to it too.
Agreed

1:48 is total utter perfection
1:08 Thomas is like: “did he just got that from the script of Thomas and the magic railroad.”
It is in the movie ironically
James being constantly interrupted even though he spoke first represents me on an unsettlingly accurate level
This is exactly how I imagine they treated each other in the 20s-30s

1:36 Henry: Gordon?
Gordon: No.
James Dammit!
Henry and Gordon: 😂
Henry: "I didn't know "The Red Rocket" used such profanity in front of passengers."
James: "Hey, sod off, Henry, I hope you crash and die, you sick cow!" 😠
Imagine being a passenger on this railroad and all you hear are the engines talking like this 😂
Oh, I can imagine, alright.
I'd pay just to stay on the station seeing the shit that goes on there.
I’d pay for several trains to watch the arguments at vicarstown
I love how outside of Edward. Everyone sounds like bitter employees of a company XD
1:36 pure comedy gold
James: DAMMIT!
Gordon & Henry: 😂😂
I didn’t know the Red Rocket used such profanity in front of passengers.
Who wants to go tell James he's pulling a slow goods train today
@@jazzykingjack2846ill go tell him

This is so good.
So good.
So incredibly good
1:52 That is a face that says "I have seen way too much bulls*t in this world" XD
1:10 HEY Gordon don’t say that line, until Thomas and the magic railroad comes out
0:37 love that bosher breakdown reference.
When did he say that
“I worked my ass for all you people, and this is the thanks I get?” Mixed with “I spend my time pulling coaches about ready for you to take out on journeys!”
Yeah, and he's definitely not wrong there, at all.
@@becdoesyoutube, I feel for Thomas there.
YOOOO THE FAMOUS MAGIC RAILROAD GORDON LINE!!!!! This is absolutely fire and that was an amazing tatmr plug my guy please keep making these
1:13 Thomas: “Bossy sprockets! All that steam has gone to your funnel!”
Well, he’s definitely not wrong there.
1:36 that’s part killed me
1:05 _Is that a TATMR reference I detect?_
Yes; Yes it is
1:08 this reference killed me
Henry and James are really just followers of Gordon I really like this and trampy doesn't fail to show
Poor james though.
1:34 this is my favorite part if the video

No, he hopes he can so Gordon can prove he can’t. See Thomas’ Train

1:06 smol smol smol teenyweeny weewee nice TATMR referance
I admit, I feel for Thomas here... 🥺😔💔
That goes double for me. Especially at 0:37.
0:37
Thomas pulls a bosher and other stories
0:37 He's definitely not wrong there, at all.
I like the reference to Magic Railroad you put in.
It’s funny Henry keeps doubting James about pulling coaches.
More like stupidly pathetic if you ask me.
LMBO 😂 Gordon, James, and Henry are silly.
They are literally the engine versions of Clarkson, Hammond, and May
More like pathetically stupid. 😒
DITTO 😠 More like unbelievably mentally stupid. Especially Gordon.
0:37: A fertile piece of sense and very reasonable points.
Reminds me of TUGS.
This is Tugs tier levels of banter!
Isn’t today a lovely day to pull the express LOVELY DAY?
Looks like you spoke too soo-
