Jam packed parsha, this and the next two contain the bulk of the mitzvot in this book.
We are presented with a blessing and a curse, foreshadowing of mount gerizim and eival ⛰
Told to destroy all the idols in the land, and not to try worship hashem through any foreign practices 🗿
No private altars allowed anymore (before mishkan all altars were private, after miskan personal offering could still be offered privately, now only offerings allowed on altar in the mishkan.) This is relevant because before we were only allowed to eat meat of sacrificial offerings, now we are permitted to eat meat in general and told to sl*ughter it properly 🐄🥩
Sacred foods (tithes, first born animals) must be taken to Jerusalem to be eaten (seeing a lot of focus here around congregating in jerusalem).
We are warned against false prophets, even if they can work real miracles, you know they are false the second they tell you not to follow God
A person who entices others to go astray and worship idols is put to de*th, and an entire city as well (if majority).
We learn the signs of a kosher animal (chew cud and split hooves) and fish (fins and scales) 🐟 The species of bird that are not allowed to be eaten, and the prohibition not to cook a kid in its mothers milk (I.e. meat and milk) (the 3rd appearance of this prohibition in the torah) 🥛
We're supposed to remit loans after 7 years, give charity (specificly to whom) and are told that "destitute people will not cease to exist" 🪙
Jewish bondsman, if he refuses to leave after 6 years, becomes a permanent slave by having his ear nailed to the door (Symbolisim: We left slavery through Egypt through a bloody doorpost; He chooses to walk back into slavery, and is sent through a bl*ody door post as well. Blood from the ear which didn't listen to hashem that he is God and we should be serving only him) 🚪🩸🔨👂
Finally we end with the 3 pilgrimage festivals, pesach, shavuot and sukkot where we all had to gather in jerusalem and bring our offering and celebrate
