The name gugudan is a wordplay. It comes from the Korean word "geuk-dan" which means theatrical performance. In other words, this girl group debuted with the concept that they're going to take stories, movies and plays and portray them in their own way through their songs (which is why they did the little mermaid concept). Each album is going to be based on a famous work of literature or art, and it's going to carry a lot of hidden meanings. For this debut song, Gugudan is portraying how much they dreamed about performing on stage instead of just dreaming about it behind the scenes- just like the little mermaid wanted to become a human and live above water. That's why the ending is them picking up a shell and bowing to a crowd- it symbolizes them fulfilling their dreams and debuting! Jellyfish has put a lot of thought into this group and I think they're really unique... it's a concept that's never been seen before.

It is risky to do other concepts because it might now catch attention of others. Just like VIXX, they have a good foundation because of pre-debut shows that they were on. Even VIXX had an "okay" kind of debut, but is still popular in Korea. Good foundation = Amazing comebacks. They need time to get used to different concepts before deciding on a solid concept they can follow. (eg: VIXX stayed with dark concepts because of On and On) So do give not only gugudan, but many girl groups, some time to prepare for amazing comebacks :)
It's true that SM also does some cute concept..but if you take red velvet debut song(happiness) for example..its cute but unique and refreshing as well.the music was well arranged with so many unique sounds included..but this one here(gu9udan) was just like other kpop girl group such as lovelyz, wjsn and etc..they all sound the same and not memorable..i felt a little bit disappointed..

i was a neighbor of haebin's family since i came korea, her family is really nice and i sometime hang out with her to some acoustic coffee, her vocal is no joke but sadly she can't show it here :( i know that she's a jellyfish trainee but i didn't know that she will debut as a gugudan member :) so proud of my girl :) 2 of my friends since training life has debuted :)
If someday again find Haebin tell that admire how little is heard note that has an incredible voice, please also say that never gives up that this is the beginning and I hope to see more of it.
I think Jellyfish made the right decision of not going overboard and hyping up their debut so much like other groups do. It'll give them room to come back with bigger and better concepts in the future that will make their debut pale in comparison just like they did with VIXX. I think the debut was great. Jey Ehm I think One of the members Sally recently talked about the whole situation about how late 2018 after their comeback they were told it would be their last comeback and they should pack up quickly and leave and go back home. It probably came such a shock to them cause I guess they were doing moderately well, I think if the groups are doing kinda well the label shouldn’t give up on them. There’s many groups like Weki Meki and DIA that are still together and get comebacks and hopefully they’ll have a comeback soon they stands out and becomes successful. It’s sad to see how many talented members there were in Gugudan and even recently Mina had her last MC job and that ended and she was upset cause basically there’s nothing else left for them all now.
