Motocross Action tests the 2022 Honda CRF450R at Glen Helen Raceway. In 2021 the Honda was all new top to bottom. It had a new chassis, fresh suspension, single exhaust again, new engine, hydraulic clutch, and more. The 2021 Honda was the most anticipated bike of the new model year but fell short to its hype. It had mapping issues and the suspension was way too soft. Riders fought to find a balanced feel on track and when at lower RPMs the bike stuttered. For 2022 the Honda has been revised and specifically been massaged in the problematic areas explained above. Is the bike better in 2022? I had a CR 250 around 30 years ago. It was absolutely the best bike I ever owned, up to that point in time. I had 5 bikes before that. I'm planning to get a CRF450 next year. Honda, like took 26 years off, or whatever. Anyway, this thing looks and sounds phenomenal. Honda is back in the game now. I'm jumping in very soon!!
26 years off? Google greatest motocross bike of all time and you'll see 07 and 08 crf450 takes that spot. They are now getting back to that design and even brought back the unicam motor.
It’s not like Honda doesn’t know the deficiency’s that you mentioned. A very high percentage of the people purchasing it are going to notice and be required to spend more money just to feel confident, something in their corporate culture needs to change allowing the feedback from test riders during development to end up on the production bikes. Bottom line is when poor suspension setup is not allowing full effort from the target weight range riders at any skill level but can be fixed by aftermarket companies it’s not Honda’s capability but their willingness to apply TESTERS feedback into production. Engineering data isn’t always real world.

He raced the KTM at Hangtown so it's obviously his choice. I'm not saying that's a bad thing he is welcome to choose whatever he likes best.

How much power at the wheels did you guys get? Seems different guys getting different readings.. some 50rwhp. Some 54rwhp. Some got 57. What you get?

@fasteddie659. Why would you think that ? Ktm won Mxa 450 shootout in 2021 and seeing the 22s are virtually unchanged I imagine the results will be the same. Should they compare the Honda 450 to the Suzuki ????

People complaining about comparing to ktm... ya because ktm is leading the industry in innovation and performance. Whether you like em or not you have to admit they are the Mercedes of dirt bikes right now
i understand your comparison however i also realize you are probably not an auto repair mechanic. none of the techs at the local benz store drive a benz. they drive toyotas and hondas mostly. if somebody gave me a benz i would liquidate it as soon as possible and spend that money on a ktm hahaha!

@@i.jackanov7382 Yeah I agree, I was replying to the other guy. It’s hard to find an analog in the automotive industry for dirt bikes, but Mercedes is a poor example by virtue of Japanese brands (in particular, Honda) being just as competitive and innovative.

Mixed up a few of your facts. Forks are 5mm longer from the 20 not 10, and they claim 3lbs lighter then the 20 not 5. Still a good review tho.
How clean was the mapping though? Seen another review said the bike had a lot of decel pop.
I own the bike and am an A rider. There is a tiny bit of decel pop from the high rev to idle in the air in the standard mode. Not bad at all

Sounds like you don’t like the bike at all .... you may think I’m crazy but my 2015 air forks on both my 250 and 450 were some of the best forks I’ve ridden . ...
It seems SHOWA struggles to make a really good fork (stock)? Great looking bike.
it's exactly like a very nice carb with bad jetting the part is great but tuned like crap it's going to act like crap. the technology is not the tuning.
magazines have to keep it pretty coarse and general for the public.
@@garonburwell9008 Good analogy. It just seems to me that this has been a trend for many years and wonder why they don't try to tune it better, for the target audience. After all, we are talking about closed-course race bikes. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
Ill take showa All day over kyb but suzuki and honda dont make 2strokes No more🤮 so Im stuk with yamaha and kyb
@@poullinneberg1876 I've mostly rode on Showa's myself. I believe both brands are good if properly dialed in. When I raced arenacross and sx, suspension was so key...

It makes me laugh that all you guy's making comments about the Honda just from the reviews you've heard over the past...if you ever rode one you would know that a Honda 450r is the most powerful, stable bike out there at speed and, on the throttle. It has a more rigid frame than any other bike that tracks straighter and, is more stable at speed when rode hard and, fast. And, yes it isn't the easiest bike to ride for most guy's because, of the power it has and, the frame being so rigid. Also, the steering being tighter than other bikes does take a little getting use to. If you are an average 160 to 180 lb rider the stock Showa front forks work absolutely awesome and, eat up the big bumps better than any other fork out there. And, yes I have rode them all and, can tell you that a Honda really does give you wings!
@Duke Bonde ...no, don't work for Honda and, wasn't saying it was the best bike out there but, it is definitely the most powerful and, controlable if set up right and, if you are capable.

Obviously you haven't rode a crf 450r because, if you have rode a crf 450r in stock form you definitely wouldn't say it doesn't feel the most powerful.

Because Kaplan didn’t run it through the whole rpm. 50rwhp out of any modern 450 is laughable at best.

KTM Action strikes again. Clearly comparing this bike to a pumpkin with cone valves. Those air forks are completely bogus and anyone who can at least half ride converts the air forks back to spring forks.
never mentions cone valve suspension. he compares the frames, which a suspension guy cannot help directly. so even worse news for guys with "feelings" about honda.
however ktm solved this problem completely because you can just buy a red ktm now.

@@garonburwell9008 Like I said, they are not comparing it stock KTM suspension. Otherwise they wouldn't be making such ridiculous comments. KTM suspension stock is completely bogus. If you are going to compare it to anything, at least compare it to the best suspension in class, the Yamaha.

Glad you are expressing your thoughts but it sounds to me like you are a huge KTM spokesman and I'm really surprised that Honda sounds like a pile of crap after listening to your review. Crazy thing because I have never had issues in my past with Honda but again I don't have the KTM crush like the new kids on the block are getting. I sure hope if people are wanting to research models before buying one that this isn't the only video that they watch because it's not going to be a unbiased explanation of the bike. Look at other reviews and see what other real professional reviews have to say. Do the research and schedule a test ride at a dealership so you can do your own research before pulling the trigger 😉.
Just buy a KTM Factory Edition and be ready to race!!!!

I feel like that was a deliberate bungle by Honda on ast years model with the map and suspension etc just to make more money. They been at this game for how long now, and making these amateurish kind of mistakes doesn't inspire confidence.

UNTIL THEY MAKE A CR500 . I wont be buying any of their bikes . when you think of Honda you generally think quality , but seems like it has slowly decreased over the years .
All the manufacturers have, KTM sell twice as many parts as honda
