Functions 8/10: I constantly hit the wipers and turn them on, they're not as fast as a newer car where a downpour or heavy snowstorm would make it hard to see, there is no function to turn the headlights off with the car on, and the auto gear shifter is in the way of the A/C controls. But the headlights do have a projector for low beams, something only now becoming designed in new cars. The brake lights shine street signs that seem to go all the way to Japan. A/C still is cold nearly 20 years after and 175,000 miles. Mechanics: 7/10: A sporty 1.8L I4 has enough kick to move it just faster than a similar year and engine sized Honda ricer. Economics 9/10: Entry level tires are less than $100, and MPG is an estimate from an auto GT with a bad O2 sensor roughly being 25 in the city and 37 on the highway. But many Celicas need attention and money invested into them considering how old they are. Although insurance is not very high for a 2 door coupe. Overall 9/10: A great first car and a good cheap sports car. DIY work is a bit of a pain, to take out the headlights the entire front bumper needs to be removed if that says anything. However if you wanted a Celica but couldn't find one buy an 86, it is nearly the exact same car. The exhaust note is not at all like a ricer, it has a throaty American-style I4. There is a relatively large aftermarket too for spare parts and custom stuff, as well as a good market for resale. Very safe 2000's car and very fun to drive. It would make an 80 year old man want to drive it, since he probably can't get out of it.

Hello, okay so this video just happens to be the one I am commenting on but I have been watching your videos for the last 3 months. There was a 2000 Toyota Celica outside my place that just sat there and after a while of eying it down i found out it belonged to my Wife's cousin and it needed a new engine. Me loving the way the Celica looked jumped on it and bought it for 700, purchased an engine, accidentally recieved a VVTLI which i had to send back due to lack of funds to due the entire swap. I should be getting it next week. These videos have given me great ideas for the future and has been satisfying my wants to use the car haha. Anyways this is the second engine swap for the 2000 Celica and I was curious if it is taken care of lovingly if the engine will last? 2000 Toyota Celica GT Manual. So far even without driving the car i am falling more in love with it. I have knowledge now of the internals since i took the engine out. I plan on making it my daily driver. Thank You for your videos! They have been keeping me at bay haha.
Epsilon First of all, my pleasure, I'm glad you're enjoying the content! Second, the engine should do just fine! Just make sure if it's a 1ZZ that you keep up on the oil, since it may burn quickly. A 2ZZ swap would've been ideal, I wish I could do something like that hahah! But yeah these engines last forever if you take care of them, they can go well over 250K+ miles. Lmk if you have any other questions!

If you lower the back of the seat down and slide it back I don't think you'll have an issue. If it has a sunroof it lowers the headliner a bit too, just as an fyi
Only a couple for me. I forgot how the normal exhaust sounded like but with the TRD one on the highway going 70+ mph around 3500-4000rpms, it's pretty loud; I can't imagine something louder for a daily. Definitely could use a 6th gear. Not sure why a GT didn't get one. My other complaint is, why wasn't there a 6th gear?!
Sticking to the era, the Type S RSX's had probably the same differences the GT does with a GT-S. As an economy sports car, I was expecting a 6th gear lol
HNCelica yea, when I was deciding on which rsx to buy, I wanted the base model..but I wanted the 6 speed lol, I ended up going with the type s because the motor was a little better. 6 speeds are pretty cool honestly

I didn't check my oil for a week and my celica burned it all and my engine dead. I have the stock wheels and a new alternator. All the parts are working. Hmu if you interested
I've thought about it, and it's a possibility. Cops up here are strict though, and I've already taken off my front plate so it'd just be another excuse to get pulled over lol. It's a possibility though! They'd look great tinted, that's for sure
I've owned an 88 GT, 89 ST, loved them both. The 89 I drove until I was pinned between a rock wall, an on coming, and a boulder in the middle of the road. Need less to say my under carriage was never the same again. The 88 had a minor/major oil leak, and the engine literally fell piece by piece out the bottom. Both cars had exceptional mpg, were responsive, and a complete breeze to work on. Then came along my 2000 GT. Overall, after putting a new motor in it, the JZFE, it drives well, when it's not acting up. New pump, new injectors, new this, new that, new MAF sensor. This car has a "limp" mode. Engine cuts out over 3000RPM. It was the MAF sensor. Okay, so I get the car back together, right? Well the how to guide was riddled with holes everywhere. And now I must bleed the coolant tank, not fill it. 60 minute job, another bubble. But wait, my check engine light is on. Yeah, I forgot the knock sensor that goes under the air intake. So I hot wired it to the head with one of the extra screw ports. That worked. The British National Thread plug under the intake was fun too. 3/8" if I recall. So the car is running great, check light goes out. Yay! Wrong. The idle air control valve is botched. I must remove the air box, disconnecting the vacuum lines attached to the bottom of the air box, disconnect the coolant lines that run through IAC, remove the throttle body, remove the tps sensor, remove some return coolant lines that are not documented for their configuration. maybe this will be an opportunity for me to make another video on the 2000 GT. Am I done ranting? And don't cross your sensor plugs. Two have the same connector. Hey check my channel in about a week, I'll have a how to video on removing and reinstalling the IAC valve. Cheers. and then how to refill the coolant.
Yeah man, not the best family vehicle either, but I'll keep it for my son. Being that it has a peaky engine, the gear ratios make for rather high RPM on the highway. I'll probably get an automatic Kia Soul since my Celica has a stick.
These cars are cheap in the UK where i am i can get a good one with 80 thousand miles for only £1500 not bad for a car that does 137mph and 0-60 in 8.5 seconds which is not exactly slow especially in England as here most cars take 14 secs to hit 60 due to the govt taxing big engined cars more lol
I drive mine daily but if I had a channel I'd probably get arrested cause I'm the route 9 Terrorist driving circles around the Audi crowd boy and its 20 years old. Watch out for the Silver Bullet you all

HNCelica kinda kills the purpose of the gts being the special model that came with a 6 speed option...just a guess
Idk, disc brakes, 40 extra hp and lift sounds like it's already a big difference.
HNCelica I wouldn't know much about celicas I've always liked them I'm just more into Acura
Toyota Celica it is truly one of a kind :)
Imma put those white LEDs win my projector lenses on my celica if I don't end up getting the whole OTMOTO headlight set on it lol... sry bro 😂
thats the bad thing about low cars you always get blinded by the other vehicles headlights
when shifting. when do you shift. I get to about 3 3 and a half rpms wbu. I have a celica also
Is it true that the 1zz-FE engine is more reliable than the 2zz?
Only if you get one that doesn't burn oil
Celica handles the snow fairly well, ice can be a bitch but that's true for most cars.
leonhart423 yeah! I'll have some cool footage hopefully this winter!!!
Winter tyres on a Celica = surprisingly excellent capabilities in the snow.
Missed your videos!
Haha I know I'm sorry! I'm back now though!
Awesome lol
Wish I could find one. The ones I do find are expensive , high mileage or hella rusted
GrimsonForce I bought one for 2k with 250k kms. If you're interested.. xd
@@pietjan2409 got a 2003 for 1500 with 142,000 miles, multiple misfires and a loose bumper that shifts a bit up and down lmao, needs some work but otherwise its clean.
@@Weebwhacker 1.5k? impressed! mine had some problems too. Catalytic converter was broken, so everytime i gave some gas i heard an unhealthy sound. Lots of rusty places, lots of screws were missing. But i do miss that car. Sold it for 1600
Just Missed out on Buying a Good One for $2000 :(
I live up north, how is it in snow?
It's pretty bad because of the low ground clearance. At least get snow tires.
Jar I've had no problems after I slapped winter tires on mine
Mine is a Daily Driver 2000 GTS over 215,000
Im 6ft2 will I fit?
well, if you're driving: probably. Backseat? Nah. If you've a lot of tall friends that might be a problem
Yeah I'm 6'1" and have a couple inches to spare
@@ikaros110 just do what i did, tell them to lean their heads on eachother
@@Weebwhacker hahaha and then only put couples in there or what. Sounds ridiculous :D
I didn't check my oil for a week and my celica burned it all and my engine dead. I have the stock wheels and a new alternator. All the parts are working. Hmu if you interested
Sellickah
Have you thought tinting the windows? They look rad
And I miss the sunroof. Totally recommend the sunroof.
I would have to say that road noise is an issue.
Agreed, forgot to say that in the video!
Yeah man, not the best family vehicle either, but I'll keep it for my son. Being that it has a peaky engine, the gear ratios make for rather high RPM on the highway.
I'll probably get an automatic Kia Soul since my Celica has a stick.
haha yea that's why u went to an empty parking lot while raining not to try and drift
Rev up your celica!
Bro do you even lift?
I drive mine daily but if I had a channel I'd probably get arrested cause I'm the route 9 Terrorist driving circles around the Audi crowd boy and its 20 years old. Watch out for the Silver Bullet you all
I just got an 04 about 6 months ago a great car...But I had to do some mods myself...
Jose Gonzales what mods?
@@felipeheise8730 just trimed the whole thing out in blue...Droped the back end 2 inches
Oh and smoked led headlights.
You can check it out on my youtube page.
Damn ya'll, do you know this car is a sports car, not a luxury cruiser? Get your apples and oranges in the right basket.
Teknakill can't a guy just speak his own opinions on his own UA-cam channel? Sheesh.
Of course a guy can... XD ( I daily drive an '01 and the coupe life is an acquired taste for any late Japan made two door car driver, which is awesome fun )
Teknakill I agree with ya there! 😆
point the camera to the outside, we wanna see the road and if possible shifting and gauges not you all the time! haha
Celica 7g car girl
How can you not know how to pronounce Celica?
It's sell-ee-ka, not sell-i-ka
The Japanese pronunciation is the correct way to say it.
Itsmeeman1 in the U.K. they say seleeka, in the U.S. we say Celica. I guess it's a preference
1.800 cc is too much for daily driving i think..I pay too much for gas
Bro...are we really making a video about daily drivability of a god damn celica? It’s a celica dude... not a Ferrari!
you probably can’t drive a celica
I agree with the height of the car , every car that comes my way immediately blinds me for a sec lol.
