Coltrane deserved a better grave imo.

Looking at Coltrane's grave we must not ignore that John Coltrane died as a black man in 1967! Charlie Parker's grave is also simple but at least has an engraving of a saxophone on it. Jim Morrison and Elvis have tombs😥

I agree with you. Ironically, the most prolific artists/musicians have unmarked or simple graves like this.
e.g. Robert Johnson and many of the gifted Bluesmen.
Mind you, the spirit of Trane is in Interstellar Space.

John Coltrane died of liver cancer at the age of 40 on July 17, 1967, at Huntington Hospital on Long Island. His funeral was held four days later at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in New York City. The service was started by the Albert Ayler Quartet and finished by the Ornette Coleman Quartet.[67] Coltrane is buried at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

I saw another Coltrane gravesite and there was a large headstone on it with same dates. Something amiss

Something's amiss here? Alice died in 2007 and is buried with him. This says 2009 and shows *only* his name...

That's it???? That's his grave? Shouldn't it look like Jim Morrison's grave in Pere Lachaise Cemetary? It looks like the grave of an ordinary person.

You shouldn't forget that these guys are normal haha :)

@@myboy576 To say Coltrane was normal is to say Jim Morrison was too. Coltrane brought spirituality to jazz, brought back the soprano, and changed the harmonic structure of all western music!!

@@mambojazz1 Jim Morrison's grave isn't that impressive, it's just a simple tombstone. I don't see what you think is so "amazing" about it but anyway. Also, this has nothing do with being "black in 1967" Hendrix died in 1970 and the dude lies in one of the most beautiful grave I've eve seen. And at the very end of it, who cares about having a bigger one, an impressive one? You're still gonna be forgotten at some point and in that regard, we're all the same. So chill out and enjoy the music while it lasts!

@@myboy576 WRONG!! He has an actual tombstone and it commemorates him. Coltrane has NOTHING it doesn't even tell you he was the greatest tenor saxophonist of all time!! BTW, Hendrix died AFTER MLK! That matters!
