This film hurts my heart.. and this very song finishes me off.! I had a lovely grandfather who was a WW1 veteran and served throughout the conflict, he never spoke of it and would not answer my questions and it was only his cronies who told me about him, on the QT.! He died in 1975, aged 85.. and I miss him still. So often in my thoughts. The pal of my childhood and youth. Happy days. WF
My grandpa was same age as yours, served in that war, but died in 1955 at age 65. I wished I could have met him. But I did meet his 2 years younger brother at a family reunion in 1964, but I was a little shaver then. I remember he looked a lot like Grandpa's pictures.

Imagine going through literal shot and shell, nearly being killed, getting taken all that way back home to be treated, all whilst still in pain, only to be told that once your well your off to do it again.
Whenever I watch this scene I think of the sergeant. He's probably old enough to have served in the 2nd world war, and his dad the first. I think his orders were an imitation of things he heard himself, not just pretending like actors now.

Isn’t the entire main entrance a memorial to WW1? Or is it another war? Edit: Yes just looked up. The main entrance was rebuilt in 1922 with a ‘victory arch’ as a memorial to WW1. “ The main pedestrian entrance, the Victory Arch (known as Exit 5), was designed by Scott and is a memorial to company staff who were killed during the war. Upon opening, it marked 585 employees who had been killed in World War I. It was flanked by two sculptures featuring Roman goddesses; "1914" with Bellona in armour with a sword and torch, and "1918" showing Pax, the goddess of Peace sitting on Earth”

Well, not quite to me, but I'm thinking Virginia. 😆 I was a field rep for an international company based in Bradford, UK, for 18 years. The U.S. headquarters was in Suffolk, Virginia. And when I flew there for a meeting or training, I'd have to fly into Norfolk, Virginia airport and rent a car. It still amazes me how the New World mirrors the Old World, and here I thought they wanted to get away from all of that and start new.🤷♂️

To be fair, the British PM lost a son, over 20 MPs died in WW1, the soon-to-become King George VI was at Jutland and Churchill even went to fight at the front.

Nah its ok. Now they learned the bosses patterns they'll do better. WW1 was basically the darksouls of trench warfare.
It was almost make you want to ‘fake it’s or slap someone that said that.
