The French sing german and understand the lyrics. This so special. As an english spreaking guy you cannot see how special this is. Even the Americans sing and understand the german lyrics when they play in Madison Square Garden. German songs had to be (translated into) english to became a succes outside of the german speaking countries like The Scorpion, Nena, Falco etc.

    • @youluky7
      @youluky7 6 місяців тому +7

It is probably one of their trademarks to sing in German worldwide and their success proves them right.
If you are interested in the meaning of the texts, you can take a look at the translations.
"du hast mich gefragt" means "you asked me"
but "du has(s)t mich" can also be interpreted as "you hate me".
Such puns are also typical of Rammstein.
All of Rammstein's lyrics are mentally deranged, typically heavy metal, but the music sounds good.

    A typical reaction usually contains:
    - is this guy on a threadmill? Ticked.
    - is it blood on his arms? Not ticked.
    - What a crowd controll. Ticked.
    - What a voice he has. Ticked.
    - Awesome pyro. Ticked.
    - Is it real electic spark or just post production?. Not ticked.
    - Replaying the fireworks shot by Till. Ticked.
Overall a great reaction, pls do some more 😊

Rammstein is absolutely flawless. This concert is obviously in Paris, but they sell out Madison Square Garden in the US. Think about it: a German band singing in German in all these countries and everyone knows the German words in these lyrics. That's powerful. I don't know which other non-English singing band is this successful.

I love your "Rammstein reactions, Mert!!! Usually when one sees your videos, you think: What a pleasantly calm, well-educated UA-camr!" I wouldn't have pegged you for such an enthusiastic response, but it seems "Rammstein" hits your "metalhead button" and I love it!!! The special thing about Rammstein is that they sing in German. Their lyrics are often ambiguous and complex and something often gets lost in translation. This is the case here- "du hast" for example can have two meanings: If it stands alone it means "you hate" or "you have" (depending on the spelling). Only when the sentence is completed ("du hast mich gefragt" - "you have asked me") it becomes “you have”. So there is a little play on words hidden in there, which of course has a certain meaning in the context of the lyrics. I really, really liked your reaction I recommend: "Angst", "Zeit", "Adieu" and "mein Herz brennt (both versions). - Much love from Germany!

The thing with this band is that most of their official videos are masterpieces, but they are also one of the most incredible live bands on the planet. So you're really spoiled for choice ;)
    Recommendations:
    Offical Videos:
*Zeit* (an absolute masterpiece, both the song and the video, with very profound lyrics)
*Sonne* (an interesting take on a classic fairy tale in the video; also great live, so really take your pick)
*Mein Herz Brennt* (There is the original version, and also a Piano Version. Both are fantastic and can be enjoyed in any order; there's also a great live version)
*Seemann* (an older song with a great sense of melancholy to it)
    Live:
    *Ich tu Dir weh*
    *Engel*
    *Mutter*
    *Benzin*

Hello, I'm an old guy from Germany and I enjoy your videos a lot. Your reactions are as funny as intelligent. To see you now reacting to Rammstein is great. I myself discovered the band (whose members are together in the same formation for about 30 years now) not longer than 3 years ago and fell in love with their music. Topics and lyrics are sometimes weird but music and performance are always outstanding. I have 50 songs which I love and every single one of them is unique. Please try "Zeit" (official video), "Du riechst so gut" (live 2016), "Ich will" (live 2016), "Sehnsucht" (live Moscow 2019, multicam version), "Adieu" (official video), "Klavier" (live Berlin 1998), "Mein Herz brennt piano version" (official video), "Mutter" (live Paris), "Rammlied" (live, Madison Square Garden), "Ohne dich" (official video)

At the moment, Rammstein's live shows are certainly the most spectacular thing you can watch.
Next, I recommend the opening track from the concert at Madison Square Garden, New York: "Rammlied" (you spell it "Rum-lead"), you can feel the energy that is immediately in the hall when this band steps on stage. And the American audience sings along to the German lyrics ;)

Fun fact: frontman Till Lindemann actually had stage fright for a very long time! He's a licensed pyrotechnician, and monitoring the fire effects helped him to keep busy and distract his attention from the crowd watching him. It got better with time but off stage, Till remains a very quiet, polite and almost timid individual!
I saw them live many times and their show is absolutely insane and otherwordly. When the singer calls for an airstrike with the red flare gun and the whole stage goes thermonuclear, it is very real, no CGI! Actually the fireworks are guided by invisible cables so there's no risk of them falling into the crowd.
If you want even more extreme pyro extravaganza, you can watch Mein Tiel, Benzin, Engel, Ich tu dir weh, Sonne and many more!

    In case you don't know:
Rammstein plays with the equal sound of "hate" and "have" in german.
"Du hast mich" (you have me) wouldn't be a full sentence. "Du hasst mich" (you hate me) would be.
They play with that, making it sound as if it woul all about "You hate me" - until they finish the sentence with "Du hast mich gefragt" (You have ask me) - "Doch ich hab nichts gesagt" (But I haven't said anything).
What follows is the typical wedding vows (normally asked by the priest to the groom and the bride):
"Willst Du bist der Tod Euch scheidet treu ihr sein für alle Tage?" (Do you want to be loyal to her until death seperates you?)
Followed by a female sounding chorus "jaaaa" (yeees) - interrupted by his harsh "NEIN!" (NO!").
At the end there is one variant:
"Willst Du bis zum Tod der Scheide sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen" - With "Scheide" being a german word for the vagina. So "Until the death of the vagina, do you want to love her even during bad days?" (what is obviously not part of any traditional wedding vow) - Again followed by "yeees - NO!"
The music video is - more obvious:
A loving couple in car near a barn, making out. It's quickly clear that he wants him to go into that barn and kill the people in there, who are wearing face masks. As he does what she wants from him and steps inside, the five men take the face mask of, revealing himself as his friends - so he let's the gun he is hiding and they instead hug each other.
In the end they leave the barn together, ignoring the hateful stares of his girlfriend/wife, who sits at the car - which then blows up.
It's overall likely a metapher for her wanting to get rid of his friends = cancel the friendship, while he cancels their marriage (plans) instead.

This song has a double meaning, when ”du hast" could be "du hasst" as well. Have or hate. The chorus is the German wedding wovs and ends with "jaaaa" and "nein" which means yes/no.

Rammstein puts in alternative instruments not often seen in a specific genre. Strings, synths, piano etc. I think the most recent example of this would be the song "Zick Zack" which surprised me when I watched the premiere, but I like it.

"Is this one guy on a threatmill?" Is probably a question, everybody who's reacting to this Video is asking. 😂
And yes. To stop the Keyboarder from running all over the Stage while playing they put him on a threatmill. 😅

In German the letters "ei" are always pronounced like the letter "i" in "mine" or the letter "y" in "my". In English writing "Rammstein" would be kind of "Rum-Shtine".

Mert is doing just fine with his pronunciation of Rammstein. As a Scot myself who also speaks German, I would not suggest "Rum" as a pronunciation for the first syllable.

I've seen Rammstein live in Berlin last year and it was great! If you want to hear something completely different from Rammstein, namely a ballad, then I recommend “Ohne Dich”.

the list of recommendations for rammstein songs is easy: all of them. because every single song usually comes with a meaning (sometimes double meanings) and they are deeper than what people might hear on the surface.
i'd highly recommend to watch the videos with english subtitles tho and there are 2 channels on youtube(no promotional benefits here) who did a great work over the years und subbed almost all rammstein songs (and often live performances). the first channel is "educatedmarine" and the other is "bucksttabu"
of course you could pick videos from all over youtube (even the official rammstein channel) but then you'd have to do the translation of the lyrics on your own.
    keep up your content btw

Hi Mert! I really like your reactions!
There are some comments here who spread misinformation about the scandal involving Till Lindemann and I want to tell you the truth here so you don't fall for them.
In May, a woman who allegedly was in row0 claimed she was drugged backstage in Vilnius at the first concert. It all blew up badly in Germany. The press allegedly found 2 or 3 women who talked to the press anonymously about how they had sex with him and felt uncomfortable or couldn't remember much of Till's private aftershow parties. The prosecutors in Vilnius and Berlin then started investigations because uninvolved people filed a charge. Both investigations were dropped, no woman came forward.
Extreme feminists started protests against the band's shows and threatened fans going to the concerts or wearing merch. On the other hand, there was a lot of victim blaming going on, which made me feel ashamed of some individuals.
In the eyes of the public, he was guilty and for many, he still is, even though there was no evidence or witness in any case.
Magazines and newspapers lost many cases in court because they made up stories about the issue.
Many people cannot accept that Till may be a sex addict and also a sleazy old man who f*cks groupies but not a sex offender or a rapist.
I tried to be as objective as I could, you can read it all in the web if you like and then decide what's your opinion on this.

The song and phrase 'Du hast' can be interpreted in two different ways. Direct translation to English is 'You have'. However, 'Du haßt' is pronounced more or less the the same but means 'You hate'. And after a few repetitions they add 'mich' (me) so the you either can interpreted it as 'You have me' or You hate me. Later on they add a German wedding vow the he answers against all conventions with no.
Du, du hast, du hast mich, du hast mich
Du hast mich gefragt, du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt.
Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet
Treu ihr sein für alle Tage?
    Nein!
Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide
Sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen?
    Nein!
You, you have, you have me. You have me
You asked me. You asked me
You asked me and I said nothing
Do you want, until death separates you
To be faithful to her for all days
    No!
Do you want, until death, which would separate
To love her, even in bad days?
    No!
