    More and more people finding out that you use your legs and hips to hit the ball but few do and hip drills to actually get them moving. For the sake of watching this tip, you can literally be doing this drill at home, at the range and even when you play.
    Moving the hips takes understanding and coordination because you're trying to move your slow moving body ahead of your fast moving arms. This drill separates the hips to they fire first. If they do, you'll hit it longer and straighter than ever.

      Paul is one of the best swing coaches if not the best! If you truly want be a good ball striker listen to Paul's teaching. I have been playing golf since the 80s and the best hcp I had is a 5. Lot of the things I leaned was through Paul's teaching. If you are a beginner golfer or a seasoned player try Paul's teaching. If possible go to his golf school and let him teach you how to hit your driver and irons. He can teach you more in a few days than you will learn in a life time. Truthfully the scoring in golf is the short game .
      putting ,chipping. You have to learn the long game first. That's were Paul comes in. Good luck and make lots of pars and birdies!

    Having played this swing for 13 years, I can testify that this little hip move to start the downswing is absolutely critical in making the swing work for you. If you don’t do it - if you start down with the upper body, or even with the upper and lower body at the same time - you’ll struggle with both distance and accuracy. And make sure that little hip move is a turn and not a lateral “bump.” Trust me, I know. This golf swing works very well, but you have to do it exactly as Paul teaches it.

    Watched your video and went to the range right away. Here is what I found for me. It was critical that the speed of the hips and arms were sequenced properly. At first my hips were moving way to fast for my arms and the right foot was coming up way to fast. This resulted in some off toe hits. Once I got everything coordinated and kept the right foot down just a little longer everything fell into place. I am not sure how much more distance I was getting, but I was much more consistent. I am sure increased distance will come with time.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому

      Nice. I love it when people try to figure stuff out on their own instead of asking me without working on it. Just keep doing it slowly and get good. Yes, more distance will come as you start firing the lower harder in the future. Great job.

    Paul - This in addition to the belt buckle drill is ALL I've been working on the past week. Now, relaxed arms/wrists is always a work in progress, but since working on the hips I've noticed it helps me relax my arms and wrists more because the RESULTS are amazing. My BEST shots occur when I realize my hips were my focus and with the belt buckle pointed forward at the finish. You're 100% correct, work on one thing at a time is a must. Exactly. The problem is getting people to do any turn. I tell them to fire the lower body quick, fast, hard etc. and what do they do? Whack at it with their arms. Unreal. Fire the hips like you were jumping out of the way of a bus coming at you ... whack with the arms. Eventually I get them to do it but this is what I go through with every person. Glad you see it and are trying to get it. As you say, even a little bit and the power is huge.

    Thanks once again, Paul, for all you share.
    I am still working through the Body Swing course and I have a question related to this move. I started trying to lock my left leg before touching my knees, but that has morphed into a feeling of "pushing up" to straighten my left leg as a way of initiating my downswing. This move feels good and I can achieve the finish checkpoints of legs touching and shaft on back of head.
    This "pushing up" move seems to me to get my hips moving without focusing strictly on the hips. So far, I am doing it with practice swings, not hitting balls.
    My question is this: Is this feel of "pushing up to straighten my left leg and initiate the downswing" an acceptable feeling or am I on a wrong track with this?
    I hope my question is intelligible and will appreciate any insights you can offer. Thanks again.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. I would be shifting and rotating then you can push up to lock it. I just don't want you locking too early causing you to just as you hit the ball. So think like you are getting left and turning then lock. I know it's not even one second but just hearing what you said gets my thinking you are jumping too much. See what happens when you hit a ball. I do like the locking of the leg for sure but it can be overdone.

      That is fine to get the feel for the lower body working in your swing. The problem is human nature telling you to hit the ball sitting in front of you. With a stationary object sitting there you will try to hit it unless you are actually thinking of using your lower body. So, do the rock skip a bunch of times. Feel it. Then apply it to your shots. @@paulwilsongolf makes sense. I just struggle with so many swing thoughts. The more I can simplify the better. But I do know I need to get my hips back to square and then open at impact. • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 роки тому

      Too many people work on too many things at once. Just get each piece. There is coil/uncoil and hinge rehinge. I would get the hinge rehinge first. This will loosen the wrists and get you hitting it straight or with a hook. Once you rarely ever hit it with slice spin you are then focusing on body. Pull = faster body push = slower body. Watch the ball. It will tell you exactly what to do.

    Paul, scientists who have studied tour players attribute club head speed (i.e. distance) to 85% arms and hands and 15% to body rotation. This position is diametrically opposed to your teaching of taking the arms and hands out of the hit. I would appreciate your take on this. Thank you.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому

      This is why you never listen to scientists or tour pros about the golf swing. So lets see you hit the ball anywhere without turning your shoulders at all. Now if you can hit it more that 100 yards it would be a miracle. Your legs and hips move your body. Your arms are connected to your body. Move your body faster your arms move faster. You get the speed through the hinge at the end of your arm unit (wrists). You turn .5 mph faster you get a huge increase in clubhead speed. Like I said stop listening to scientists.

      The problem with that is time. You have 1/4 of a second from the top to impact. You think shift when are you going to turn? What is the problem with easy 80-90% of all ams? Not enough hip turn. So they keep telling people to shift so this keep being the main issue. Why not turn? If you turn and get to the follow through on the tip of the back toe you had to shift. If you turn you get back to 50/50 in the downswing immediately so you can keep turning and the weight keeps shifting at impact. You think shift you will also send it over the top. So since 1991 I have told people to turn not shift. I have tips on it here:

      Well it is about understanding how it works so it makes sense. If you don't know "why" then why are you going to do it. Plus, you need other thoughts to replace your current thoughts. If you keep thinking of the same thing you will get the same result. The biggest key is absolutely turning your arms off in the downswing. Turn your arms off completely and you will have to figure out another way to hit the ball (body).

      What about seniors? This is the only way a senior is going to hit it anywhere. Typically seniors want to whack at it with their arms. I have tons of tips on the channel now about this. In hitting, they lock the wrists and the club swings slower. As you get older you get weaker so you end up hitting it nowhere. So instead of doing what they majority of seniors who come to me for lessons so learn to hinge and rehinge your wrists. You don't have to be strong to be loose. Then you learn to turn a little and you will hit it by all of your friends effortlessly.

People are distracted, people don't hear it, YT doesn't like short tips anymore, I think of other things near the end etc etc. If you don't like it you can stop halfway through. No one is forcing you to watch. If it were me I would be hanging off every word and absorbing it.
      Here is a test for you. Listen to a whole tip and try to remember what I said. Jot down some notes. Then listen to it again. I guarantee you don't remember it even though I said it 3 times.

      Paul Wilson Golf... Hey Paul, you are SOOOO correct about “telling ‘em what you’re going to say, then say it, then tell ‘em what you said”.
      I’ve made many presentations in my working career, some to small and medium size groups (2 to 25), some to hundreds of seminar participants, all live/real time. People remember things more once repeated, even if it feels redundant. So, DON’T CHANGE A THING!
      You are right, if Mr Hayes doesn’t like the delivery, he doesn’t have to watch it.
