Aww, lol... You'll get it! Never give up- Never surrender! Fixing any creeks or rattles helps a lot to make the car FEEL solid. That feeling can help out the driving experience by a significant amount. If you're running poly mounts, the car will feel even more 'race' bred/premium, if you locate the rattles and add a little 3M furniture felt pad in between rubbing panels, plastic bits, etc. Just because the NVH is increased, doesn't mean the car should have to feel/sound clapped out! I look forward to seeing what you do next. I went with the FM S1 Turbo kit 2-3 years back- prior to all the K-Swap hype, and I'm feeling like I missed the boat on that aspect... There's always options out there and the journey with your car is YOUR journey together.
Welcome back :) - I recently purchased a hard top for my NA6 and I can safely say it's the best 'mod' I've ever done. The car feels almost like a different car and instantly half of all those annoying vibrations and rattles disappeared. Now summer's coming I almost don't want to take it off!
How much are hardtops these days where you are? I think they look great and quiet rattles down, as you said. Wish I could get one for a reasonable price
@@mostlyuselessgarage They average about £500 - 600 for a decent one. I think the difference in price is resulting in people importing hardtops to north America. They're more stable than gold prices though so probably a good investment even if the initial cost is high!
That's still a good price compared to the £850 to £1200 equivalent prices where I am. I think in the US they tend to also be over $1000USD. We should have stockpiled 100 of them back in 2010 🤣
@@mostlyuselessgarage Even at that price I think it's worth it - you'll never lose any money on it if you sell it (unlike literally every other mod :D )
Thx for mentioning it! Altho the Miata content takes center stage, learning about filming and editing is a fun process. Yes, ofc there are many mods just like any motor. Ported heads, cams, valve train, pistons, etc but the point of this swap is the cheap motor. That said, I have some ideas 😁
Maybe you just need some forced induction. The B207R stock boost 12.8 psi with an auto in a 9-3 Sportcombi is pretty fun. I can tell having that motor in my 95 miata would be a blast. It's not a great sounding motor but its a workhorse.
I did but didn't film it. I followed the Flyin Miata instructions IIRC and besides the rod it involved getting the clutch slave piston to just about be pushed out of the cylinder. But ya that's a good suggestion, maybe I need to double-check it, thanks!
I extended the clutch rod even further and there's barely any play with pedal engagement. The grinds are still there but might be better. Thx for the tip!
Check the bushing on the fork at the end of the rod. If you can wiggle it you need new bushing. This will make the engagement different every time you shift.
@@mostlyuselessgarage I think you turbo charged the fit and then put nitrous on that Honda mini thing. Although a supercharger on this build would be pretty interesting to watch. Wonder if you could pull one off an old cobalt.
Hmm, all that work for a handful of extra horses under the bonnet (sorry, hood). Is there something you're not telling us or is that the face of a seriously disappointed man? I really hope you can get more out of the motor (although it was a bit smoky at the top end on the dyno). Looking forward to what you do next....
@@mostlyuselessgarage I would personally suggest the LS1. I’m actually building this now. V8Roadsters swap kit. LM4 aluminum block LS. It’s a 5.3 im boring to a 5.7. T56 trans. Standalone ecu from Holley. Expensive? Yes! So a budget option may be to boost that motor you have. Or do the LS swap but keep the motor in stock form.
Cool, thats a nice 1.6 NA motor build and it's gotta be plenty fast. I'm not sure if this dyno reads low or what, but it begs a bit more research. Thx!
Not for the views, that's for sure! I'm thinking of discussing in a future video, but peak WHP, which mine seems lower than normal, is part of a larger story.
Dam this channel is underrated, glad to have gotten recommended this.
Awesome comment to appeal to the UA-cam algorithm gods! 🙏 Thx for subbing!
The ending got me... subscribed
Whoa, someone watched to the end ... that's gotta be a first! Thx for joining us!
It’s been awesome watching this build! Can’t wait to see you hit the track with it!
Thanks dude, "Wil" do! Har-di-har!

Plz give some deets on your build? 1.6 or 1.8, stock internals, catalytic converter, pump gas, dyno figures? Looking for additional data points. Thx!

Here's an example of a local hardtop to me at $3000 CAD 😱 m.facebook.com/marketplace/item/460060899879567/?ref=browse_tab
I think it sounds ok, and it makes more power at the wheel than it did at the crank when new. Best of all, you did all that yourself.
Man here knows. Stock used LE5, drivetrain loss, and crank HP vs wheel HP. You win the comments 😉
HES BACKK
Hahahaha love the video. I bet that dunk number didn’t make you feel happy. Hopefully there’s some horsepower hidden somewhere!
😢
Yeah!!!! I am thinking about doing the same to my Miata!
Great to hear! Feel free to contact, if you need any help
It held together on the dyno, still an impressive build 💪
Thx man, you're too kind. Life is a journey or something, right?
HE'S BACK!
You need to write a book.
Audio book! His commentary is the best part lol
@@deesautohouse367 seriously tho lol
Really like the intro on this video! Are there any easy mods you can do to that motor to get more out of it?

You may be onto something! The 9-3 Ecotec turbo is one of those, if you know you know, sleepers that could really surprise.
Did you adjust the clutch pedal rod under the dash. I had the same issue when I changed my clutch and 6 speed swap.
I did but didn't film it. I followed the Flyin Miata instructions IIRC and besides the rod it involved getting the clutch slave piston to just about be pushed out of the cylinder. But ya that's a good suggestion, maybe I need to double-check it, thanks!

Yeah it's the sound of the ecotec for me 😬
2500.00. Hardtops in New England.

Hahaha. Solid vid. Next up, NoS!
Like Gingium's Honda Fit? That's not a bad idea 🤔

Remember to always round up, 150hp it is!
I love that rule, I'll round it up to an even 200 😎
Supercharger!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Phil! A plot twist after a plot twist? That would have been brilliant 😅
You have proven you are no longer useless. Your motor has. Now rip it out and put something in with power!
Thx dude, that's always an option ... with more funds anything's possible. What would you suggest??

Ecoboost 2.3 swap it.
The Ecotech platform holds the world record for fastest 4 cylinder 1/4 mile 😂
That’s amusing my 1.6 makes more at church automotive dyno.
Plz give some deets on your build? Stock motor, cams, tune, Mustang or Dynojet? It's a good data point, thx!
@@mostlyuselessgarage it’s a dynapack, I hear the numbers are optimistic but, it feels like 160hp. Cams, built head, e85, oem compression just forged.

@@mostlyuselessgarage you should see if there was a temperature coefficient messing with the compensation
So you built a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky...lol 😂
Pretty much. Lighter & better gearing but pretty much.
Loved it. The rebuild an prior timing install very informative an helpful. Keep up the excellent work.
.6 tho!
Low HP, lil gains matter!
holy shit 💀💀
why do people do this swap then? the power advantage doesnt seem to be there

Should have went with the Ecotec LNF 2.0L TURBO mine is pushing 500hp with forged internals, slightly bigger turbo upgrade on 15lbs of boost.😂
Should shave a couple seconds off your track times
Next stop!
