I've researched the DIY Euro many times and never have I seen the process of reboiling with the bleach solution in the water. That's my favorite part of this. I'd usually go back over the whole skull with a small brush and paint 3-4 coats. Not only is this literally a fraction of the time, but with superior results. Sweet!
Hey I thoroughly enjoyed your video. My family started doing European deer and elk mounts after living in Germany in the early 60's seeing how they did their mounts. My Dad shot some roe buck there and they cut the skull from the back through the eye socket just above the upper teeth, keeping the nose bone. They cut a section of the lower jaw and router a relief in the back of the plaque to show it. By cutting the skull it provides a nice flat surface to mount to the plaque with two screws in the thicker part of the skull. I use peroxide to soak the skull in after boiling to bleach it. I have deer and elk that are 35 years old done that way and still look good. It wasn't until I got back to the States and saw whole head skull mounts. It is neat to see your method.
+Idaho 2nd Gens I just got back from Europe a week ago. I noticed some of their euro mounts and found them interesting. So I also noticed they have a deer with antlers similar to an elk. I only seen a shoulder mount and it looked to be smaller than our elk. Can you elaborate on these animals, and what are they called?
That was a really quick clean and mount Cory maybe if I get to go elk hunting next year that’s what I’ll do I love Europe mounts they don’t take up to much room in your house thanks Cory
That's a new and neat tip I haven't seen it done with that type of bleaching liquids. I personally clean my skull and when all meat is off I use hydrogen peroxide to clean my skulls. it keeps it whit clean and natural bone color.
I simmer, not boil, for 3 to 4 hours. Then I use Salon Care 40 volume peroxide as a paste and apply it with a brush. After the peroxide treatment I gently power wash, dry completely, then apply a matte finish clear sealer from a rattle can. Been doing it this way for years and skulls never yellow plus they are easy to dust off.
I have done all my animals european, but have never done it myself. This video makes it look so easier. How about a video that shows the caping of an animal with detailed stuff on the skull. Thanks for all your videos, they are an inspiration....
This is what I have been doing for the past few years now and it's way more fun than paying someone to do it. The only thing I do differently is take a screw driver and pry out the ear bones/cartilage. There is a lot of meat and fat in there and it doesn't effect the look
great video, Never done it this way myself, I'm always nervous that I will loose all that cartilage within the nose. Do you have any close up pictures of inside the nose?
You actually want all of that nasal cavity and carlidge removed along with the ear canal and brains. I use long needle nose pliers and a long flat head screwdriver in conjunction with the boiling and power washer. Its not quite as easy as he makes it seem in the video bet definatly a good diy project.
Great video! Always herd bleaching weakens the bone? Gona give this a try to some boiled not bleached one on the wall, Thanks again elk101 for the chande to win! HardLoadHunter
Hey Corey I followed this video today step by step and I'm really impressed with my first European mount DIY! I needed a bigger pot but my spike buck came out great and I hang it tomorrow! Thanks for the video and how simple this was! Check out my pictures of the finished product and tell me what you think? @horns2dirt thanks again!
Corey, you make it look so easy. I think I will give this a try.

Nice video Corey. Learned some different ways to do it from the video. Thanks. Kyle
Great Video Corey...We definitely will change the way we have been doing european skulls after watching this!
Great video for anyone that wants to do a Euro mount!
great tips !! I just need to find a smaller metal box. A cut down 55 gallon drum barely gets too boiling !!
Excellent video, currently doing a Pronghorn Antelope skull so this came just at the right time. Thanks for the tips guys.
Love this video. Thanks for the tips on making a great European mount.
Thanks for the great info, can't wait to try it out.
Great video and great tips! Can't wait to try this on my next bull! And love the Backcountry podcast, always looking forward to your next episode!
Great tips Corey! If you boil the skull with a scoop of Oxyclean it seems to remove a lot of the grease and whitens the skull too.
Great video. Been following his tips for a while now.
Thanks for the video! Just hung this years bull with a skull hooker mount today. First one I've used and it's a great system.
I can't wait to try it.

I've never heard of using laundry detergent and I've always painted the bleach mixture on the skull. This is a whole lot easier. Thanks for he tips.

Awesome video. What are the dimensions of your container? Seems like that would work way better than a 55 gallon drum
Great tips!
The detergent doesn’t mess with the base of the antlers??
Sharp looking skull!
Awesome tip! That was alot faster and easier they boiling for 12 hrs.
Corey what are the dimensions of your boiling pot. Going to make one would like to know a basis to start with.
James4Elk, it is 12x12x24. That allows enough room for 2 elk skulls.
Great vid!
looks good.
You guys should look up white bones creations he does some amazing work with skulls.
great video, thanks!! :)
Thanks for the tips, Corey! Now I just need to kill by first elk...
Didn't see you Clean out the brain cavity and ear cavity
i have seen you on randys vidos
