I saw Poco live in the fall of 1970 (in college) and, in addition to what Harri said, they were simply one of the tightest bands --- EVER! Plus, something I never see comments about is the fantastic drumming - it adds soooo much to this song which is also one of my most favorite all time songs!

You are right about their harmonies, since two of their founding members came from "Buffalo Springfield" and Randy Meisner and Timothy B Schmidt who we remember from the Eagles.
Lots of great singers in that bunch!

@@DENVEROUTDOORMANRandy left due to being shut out of mixing their first record / conflict with Richie. Tim left because Poco was a shell of its original by 1978, only Rusty remained. Perhaps Rusty and Paul wouldn't have written their two gold singles if the timeline had been different. Randy and Tim were adults who made adult decisions.

Poco's third album, _Deliverin'_ , was a live recording and displays fantastic musicianship and rapport with the audience. I'd love to see you react to the song "C'mon" from that release, since Rusty Young's steel guitar couples with the harmonies perfectly.

I've been a huge Poco fan since a little kid. This song was my first exposure way way back when. I think this might have been the first song I learned in English. There are so, so many great and wonderful Poco songs. But I think the ultimate Poco song is the original studio version of "Rose of Cimarron" which showcases so many of this band's talents. Of course, this is just my opinion. Some other wonderful contenders include "Indian Summer", "The Dance", "All the Ways" (actually, almost anything from the Cantamos album), "Faith in the Families", "Keep on Trying", "Ghose Town", "How Many Moons", and on and on..........

Two other songs I love from this LP are "I Can See Everything," which was written by Timothy B. Schmit, and Poco's cover of the Buffalo Springfield tune "Go and Say Goodbye." They soon became Loggins & Messina, which created a lovely, earth-loving song called "Be Free". And there is a beautiful concert of its performance from the '70s, which give you a good sense of Jim Messina's mandolin and voice.
A perennial favorite. One of my first 5 albums was a Poco. The others were ELP's Tarkus, Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma", The Who, "Live at Leeds", Strawbs' "Hero & Heroine", and Genesis' "Selling England by the Pound". One Country Rock, One Rock, and 3 Progressive. My trend toward the progressive continued. All good. Tx Harri!

You know, many times good artists don’t get that big breakthrough and sometimes it’s actually for the better. Because then they can just continue to make the music the way they want it instead of record companies telling them what to do. Musical Youth for instance, were forced into a more soul/disco style for their second album as MCA thought it would work better for the US market. It didn’t, really. 🤷🏼‍♂️
