- Intimidator is the Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster at Carowinds. This NASCAR themed coaster travels over a series of camelbacks along the edge of the parking lot. This coaster is infamously nicknamed "InTRIMidator" for the abundance of trims, but it can deliver a sneaky good ride if the trims are off.
This coaster was rebranded as Thunder Striker in 2024.
I do love that second twisted drop
It sure looks weird though.

Random comment, but my cat really likes this video. When I'm watching coaster videos he'll always follow the train with his eyes and these long, continuous shots from far away make it especially easy for him. He's totally transfixed, haha. If he could give you a thumbs up, I'm sure he would!
That's funny! My cats went crazy when we had the Lion King on TV.
Got to visit Carowinds for the second time last fall, and let me say, the fresh coat of paint on this coaster looks absolutely killer! I also feared the first time I visited that this ride would be dwarfed by Fury at the front gate, but instead it looked huge and powerful in it's own way. Just a really impressive looking ride from the parking lot and on the walk into the park.
This ride does look great.
Had a fun time on this. I sat in the back right 1st ride and the 1st or 2nd row far right seat. I was convinced to sit up front because I thought the back would be better dragged over the hills with that super long train. But I think I preferred the front because it felt better than a dive coaster being pitched forward facing down for a super long time while the train got off the lift. Good ride!
Both the front and back have their strengths.
2nd, and yay my home park
Nice!
My favorite B&M Hyper.
Hot take!
@@CanobieCoaster Trust me. I’m aware! 😂
With great airtime comes great trims
Or you can visit on a cooler/windy day and they're mostly disabled.
@@CanobieCoaster yes trims werent on for me and I thought it was an upper half B&M hyper
@@coasteradventureslol Weird i went last night at 11pm for a windy night ride but even the you got one second of the weakest airtime on planet earth once you descent back up before the straight part of the airtime hill youre in your seat again. Its like a kiddy coaster
@@Novhlol Huh interesting
@@coasteradventureslol Yea all five times ive rode it my butt was one the seat whole time
Insert desperate "it slaps guys I swear" comment
I don't use that word.
Imagine an imaginary history about:
An small leisure park in South Carolina near Carowinds would be expanded and transformed into an amusement park starting in 1997. One of the first additions of the expansion would be a Vekoma suspended looping coaster with the standard layout. It would be built over the pond in the northeast section of the area. It would be named Looptimidator. It would open in 1998. It would have the same color scheme as the B&M hyper coaster that Carowinds received in 2010 in Intimidator. While Looptimidator at the park in South Carolina near Carowinds is an invented Vekoma suspended looping coaster that would open in 1998, Intimidator is the real B&M hyper coaster that opened at Carowinds in 2010. While Looptimidator uses the Vekoma standard SLC trains with the SLC oversized over the shoulder restraints, Intimidator uses the B&M hyper trains with seats in a V shape with the B&M hyper clamshell restraints. What would you think about all both rides and would you like both?
I'd take the hyper.
I guess the review is coming in a few hours!
Yes
first
Insert unfunny intrimidator joke here
2 of the trims don't bother me.
I wish this was a much better hyper
It's solid.
I believe it’s the trims which is why people call it intrimidator
It’s just as good as Diamondback
What do you think about two B&M hyper coasters, Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Intimidator at Carowinds?
Like both.
So why does Cedar Fair go extreme with trim breaks? Is it a requirement by the manufacture or the counties that the parks are located in or are they just being too over cautious with them?
Hershey has trims on Candymonium and SeaWorld has them on Mako. I think it's B&M's request.
Are you going to do a review on this? Please.
Yes, it's out now.
IMO
Intimidator has a fantastic first half with lots of airtime and speed, and the second half couldn't be more pointless.
I agree.
I’ve not had the chance to visit Carowinds in a LONG time. What’s the issue with the second half? It definitely looks slow coming off the brakes, but sometimes videos don’t give a good impression of the speed of a ride.
What do you think about Intimidator at Carowinds and Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion?
And what do you think about Afterburn, also at Carowinds?
Like all those. Like I305 best.
I wonder what’s that clicking noise I hear it all the time when I’m on the intimidator 👀🤷🏼♂️
I believe it is the upstop wheels.
👀
Enjoy!
Trims really do hurt this ride.
If you go on a cold or windy day, they'll be off.
why was it running so SLOWWW
A lot of this footage was from early in the day.
Rip intimidator 2010-2023 hello thunder strike 2023-present
I'm fine with a rename, but I don't like what they picked.
