Unfortunately, these new technologies are already having a negative impact on working photographers. It all boils down to how companies want to spend (or not spend) money to get new content. AI is cheaper and faster. Although these new images may not look as good as the real thing, or they lack authenticity, companies are more interested in speed and cost. I've seen this first hand where I work because I hire photographers to do commercial and product photography, and lately, I am doing less hiring and more AI generated imagery (this is not my choice). By the way, I was a professional photographer for many years, so I know what it takes to be a photographer. I don't agree with the way things are going, but these new technologies are here to stay because the market demands it.

I want to peruse photography as a career I graduated high school in 2024 and am trying to raise funds for college but the fact that companies prefer soulless products over products with soul put in genuinely tears me apart tbh

I think documentary photography is here to stay, so keep your chin up.

I believe hardly in the age of A.I., machine learning.... ability of software we can await that someday human qualities of their creativity and creative output can be imitated by machines. The question is what kind of quality does it bring to society. What kind of value has a photo been taken by a machine or software... ? If so imagery in quality and quantity will be the everyday "experience". On the long run it will reduce the value of art in every form. Even though photography. The more photos we produce everyday, the less value they have! We see that nowadays.

I think you are making some valid points Alecks. We need to be having more of these debates for sure. Not that it’s going to change anything 😂 but still.
Photography overtook painting, cinema overtook radio, tv overtook cinema, on-demand-video overtook tv. Maybe AI will replace most photography but maybe we will find new things to do and create that can be done in person only far far away from our screens 🪐

The scenario, that i see for weddings is this. Everybody on the party is asked to deliver their bad smartphone pictures and films, and ai renders top pictures. I personally am dedicated to authenticity, but let's be realistic. Our children will perceive the simulation of reality as normality.

Maybe not replace professional photographers completely, but many will abandon the profession because automation and AI are already doing it. I say that because it's easy to set up 6 or 7 cameras in specific places and remotely shoot everything. There are weddings without the physical presence of a photographer, so it's a small step towards "kinda" breaking the industry. What I'm saying is that you're thinking in AI standards of today, but the reality is that AI is moving faster that we can imagine. The only salvation is that people still desire human influence on the assignment and are willing to pay more just not to have a robot with AI doing the job, whether is photography, editing, cooking, cleaning, and so on.

Definitely speaking of the Ai standards of today, you are right.
I think it’s an interesting discussion to have right now and to think through, but of course we all don’t have a 🔮
Thank you for the points you are making.

I don't believe AI will fully replace photographers. While AI can automate certain tasks and enhance photo editing, it lacks the creativity, intuition, and human touch that photographers bring to their work.
