Damn ain’t just good, it’s great. I felt bad giving it a B, cause tracks like Fear and Duckworth are some of my favourite tracks in Kendrick’s entire career. Just felt like it needed to go there because of my overall thoughts on the album. Still a masterpiece though, like everything else
Damn at B is insane- Damn is also the album that got me into Kendrick and, while it’s an unpopular opinion, it’s my favourite album. All the songs link together in a story which is extremely personal and vulnerable and, in my opinion, Loyalty and Yah are some of the best songs in the album. However, I understand why it was put in B from your explanation, loved the video
As a Kendrick fan since 2013, seeing uu on the same level as section 80, and above OD, made my soul cringe. Uu is literally throwaway songs, pieces he didn’t use on albums and mixtapes, it’s pretty much his version of like Nas’ The Lost Tapes. Of course they’re great songs, but it’s not a cohesive album he painstakingly pieced together like Section 80, bad take if you ask me or most Kendrick fans🤷🏼♂️
I’ll put my ranking from least best to incredible:- 5) Untitled Unmastered: It’s great but it’s literally a collection of unfinished songs, tho it’s funny how a collection of unmastered songs from the best rap album ever is still leagues above most other music today, 8/10 favourites are 5 and 7 4) Section 80: for a first record section 80 is absolutely incredible and I now only think slightly less of it comparing it the heights he would later reach. It’s still great tho, the production is consistently fire, the lyricism is the quality you’d expect from Kendrick, the concept of the album allows for some very interesting looks into different people. 8+/10 favourites are fuck your ethnicity, ADHD and Hiipower 3) DAMN.: The mixed response to damn from critics is baffling to me, I think it’s absolutely incredible, the songwriting may not be as goated as his previous records but I can forgive a lot of it because the songwriting is still great consistently and also because the albums narrative and way the narrative is told is nothing short of incredible. People calling this album too mainstream and his simplest record are fucking mad, this is a very complex and deliberate album. It’s story is hard to explain in the youtube comment but look and then listen to the collectors edition, my mind was genuinely blown the first time I listened to it. Amazing album, 9/10 favourites are DNA., FEAR. and DUCKWORTH. (best Kendrick song of all time you can’t even begin to argue with that 2) Good kid, mAAd city: He blew it out the stadium with the sophmore release, the only issue with this album is Real, it’s not a bad song but it’s pretty long and grinds the story to a hold and is nowhere near the quality of songs throughout the rest of the album. The rest of the album is near masterpiece material, such a well told and well defined concept album with some of the best rap songs of the past decade, everything from the lyricism to the production to the conceptual ideas were taken from the already great Section 80 and increased even more so to an insane degree. 9+/10 favourites are good kid, mAAd city and Sing about me/I’m dying of thirst 1) To Pimp a Butterfly, I don’t have to explain how this is pretty much the best hip hop album ever, we all know it. 10/10 favourites are Wesley’s theory, These Walls, u, hood politics, the blacker the berry and mortal man
