Great idea! That is why I returned the Graceful, my first LV purse (have small leather goods including 2 preloved agendas) ), that I could only get online in the wee hours of the morning where there was that LV “window”. The strap cut right under the arm unlike the Coach, Michael Kors, and KS bags I have with similar straps which were longer.
I hope you've found a bag since then that you love.

Thank you. The strap is from my vintage Noe.
I don’t use Vuitton personally (I don’t purchase leather), but I get replacement straps from Amazon that are usually broader (and longer) than the originals, allowing me to wear them cross-body more comfortably. This protects the original strap as well, and is a good compromise if you don’t mind it not being specifically Vuitton.
Great idea. I find it a little difficult to locate nice straps on Amazon among all the cheap, cruddy ones. Do you have any suggestions or favorite straps to share? Also, props to you for not purchasing leather. I totally respect that.

That's just the strap that comes permanently attached to the bag. There's not a name for it, as far as I know.

I find this very interesting because my favorite way to carry a bag is on that super short straps under my armpit with my elbow holding the bag down and then I feel somewhat hands free. I have used the three piece speedy vachetta strap shortened up on lots of bags and I like it very much
I am a plus size girl I am 510. I think that matters. The Louis Vuitton Bandelier strap that came with my Alma BB falls off my shoulder constantly and drives me nuts. And because I’m so big I seriously question whether any strap is long enough to be the cross body. Actually the best strap I have cross body is the chain that comes with the Felicie that is very long and very thin I feel most comfortable with a small bag Crossbody with that chain I bought from FASHIONPHILE
I think crossbody bags look terrible on me for the same reason you're talking about. I feel like the strap and the bags (which tend to be small) accentuate my size.
