I say coming to terms as it's a massive realisation and it's making so much sense about my life. one of them being why ten was my favourite doctor - as a kid I related to him being overexcited and talking fast a lot like me. now it makes total sense!!!
I’ve been diagnosed (finally!) as autistic for two years now, and I admit I’m finding it humorously comforting that I have so much in common with my favorite Time Lord!
Same! I could never understand why I related so hard to 10 but seeing this has made me consciously notice all the similarities. I do it to think, to calm down, and to help me stay focused.
Huh wow, I kind of just realized this too. I've always found it difficult to relate to most people on a genuine level. this probably my new favourite doctor who video. doctor who, and specifically tennant's doctor, has been a long standing fixation of mine as well as a comfort show, and i love seeing my own neurodivergent quirks in my comfort character
I love Doctor Who and I adore the 10th Doctor -- never thought about the fact that it was because, as a ND person myself, I was relating to as well as appreciating his wonderful energy and impulsiveness and neurodivergence. This video warms my heart and makes me love David Tennant's Doctor even more if that's possible :) -- thank you!!
I’m late to find this video, but just had to chime in, that my little neurodivergent heart loves every bit of the Tenth Doctor’s passion and awkwardness for the same relatable reasons!
the first indication i noticed that 10 could be neurodivergent is in the christmas invasion episode, the doctor mimicks the sycorax’s tone when asked who he is. it’s a common trait with neurodivergent people to mimick the tone of other people to appear more normal.
I watched these series' before I was diagnosed, and it never occurred to me that Ten acted kind of neurodivergent, but you're right! No wonder I liked his run the best :) "What happened to your accent!" Is hilarious in hindsight, now that I know he was using his natural accent while "faking" being Scottish and Tennant's doing a character voice for The Doctor at all other times. So, while in the show The Doctor got distracted and his accent slipped, in reality David was putting his false accent back on.
I rather think he dialled his true Scottish English accent down quite a bit. See, if you listen to the manner that David speaks in Staged, for example, his true accent is quite strong and may be hard for some people to understand. Accents in a show or movie can be a bit of a tricky balance. On one hand, a director wants a character’s accent to be quite obvious, but on the other hand, if their accent is too thick, they become difficult for some people to understand, hence ruining the immersion.
The thing about the settling down idea is that i think its about understimulation! I get understimulated a lot, and while lot of people talk about overstimulation i haven't heard much talk about the other end of it ^^
Yes absolutely the doctor is someone who needs constant change of environments to feel properly stimulated!! The thought of stay still in one place Forever plus the amount of admin work that getting a job/house/MORTGAGE is?? That’s his worst nightmare
The Doctor Definitely shows under stimulation a lot. Like the time when he says he so bored and just has to do stuff. 11 did it so well in “power of Three”episode

My little adhd brain is very delighted that this video exists because I keep noticing these things and am happy to find other people with the same ideas
i love how every doctor is neurodivergent bc they literally don't have human brains :) also this video made me think i should get checked for some sort of mild neurodivergence bc i relate a little too much to this and my nd friends lol
@@MyBelovedGhostAndMe in all fairness alot of gallifreyans tick boxes for ASD DID or most commonly among sociopathy and a basic lack of empathy an the majority of them seem to suffer from god complex's and a belief they can control everything
I keep hearing neurodivergence tends to run in packs (ND people tend to click better with each other than with NT people) so yeah, if most of your friends are ND and you relate to a lot of ND traits (ND is also A LOT of different things), it's worth asking your doctor.
I love "fixating on being ginger" because I understand that it's probably meantvto be about the fixating part but I just interpreted it as specifically fixating on being ginger being a common trait of neurodivergent people
As a Neurodivergent human, I’d like to state that I have never once even remotely thought of what I’d look like with a different natural hair colour. Only ever thought ‘bout what I’d look like with unnatural hair dyes. Blues, colour fades and such.
Could you do a compilation of the 11th doctor? He has quite a bit of moments where he misses social clues and takes things too literally. Also when he eats all the food and hates it in the first episode he's in could be because he has trouble with the texture
I don’t really have the time/energy to make more of these at the moment (I cannot control the hyper focus lol) but I definitely agree I see all the doctors as different flavors of neurodivergent. 11 definitely has a lot of misreading social situations that are very relatable though 10 will always be my personal favorite :)
There were variations though. 11 was more ADHD, 12 had Prosopagnosie (which verged on plot points sometimes, like when he didn't recognize Clara had the wrong age)
Finally got the motivation to make a part 2 and tragically HBO max now black screens when I try and use the screen capture program I have rip. Thanks to the people who have appreciated this video never thought it would get any response as it was just made for fun :)
I relate so much to ten specifically, as well as rose! needing silence to think, easily distracted, fixations, fast talking while passionate, not understanding or preempting social cues easily and fidgets and stims ofc, honestly I think both are ND, maybe Martha too, it just makes sense to me idk! All three just live in their own bubbles and are very creative and passionate, as well as highly empathetic, the doctor especially, as he’s literally killed himself to save innocent people before, that’s the most obvious example of hyper empathy but yk 😭
If anything, this is an amazing analysis on what neurodivergent means, especially the ADHD kind, which I believe Tennant pulled off brilliantly. Having learned more on the subject as I was watching, I believe I used to have this as a kid, hence why I was the one in my family who often took inspiration from the Doctor and could make them laugh. Later in life, I somehow lost that along the way...having been in Customer Service for 15 years kinda sucks it out of you. Now that I remember more of the times I acted like this, I feel it sort of...coming back naturally from those memories and I am feeling more happy than I have in a rather long while. Thank you for this video, I will definitely subscribe, and...sorry if I sound like I was rambling. I don't often get passionate over these sorts of things.
you didn't lose it silly, existing in this world (a world built for neurotypicals) is entirely exhausting for any one on the neurodiverse spectrum to function in. instead of just being ourselves and letting our brains do their thing we're forced to learn how to mask ourselves, our personalities, our feelings, everything in order to escape ridicule from our peers. to fake it till we make it, to function within society's expectation of "normal" you mention customer service "taking" your neurodivergentness, and it's a apt description, you have been forced to wear the mask for so long that your brain has started doing it naturally and has in turn basically shunned your true self. however you say that if you focus on it you can be that person again. THAT IS UNMASKING!!!! and it's so amazing and so joyfull because you have gone so long without being who you truly are, for so long you have pushed and shoved everything AMAZING about yourself down and I'm sure it has been exhausting, and absolutely draining and you've been living like that for who knows how long. but to unmask, to be yourself and to function how you want, to stomp your feet and shake your hands and twist around in circles just because your body wants to can be so thrilling, to let your brain run a mile a minute and not care to slow down is what being neurodivergent is all about! take the time to learn your brain and your body again, learn to unmask completely an I promise your world will get just as big as it once was
@@calamity_cailynn Heh...you know what, it takes a lot for someone like me to react to people's encouragement anymore, mostly because I've lost almost all my faith in humanity. That's being an INFJ for ya, and your telling me to unmask is...actually making me hold back tears, because you are right. I'm glad I could make a difference in your day and just know that from now one you have atleast me in your corner ready to hear all about your hyperfixations and crazy indescribable feelings and all the amazing things your brain will think up! being neurodivergent is hard and is only made harder by society attempting to seclude us from eachother. you are perfect just the way you are and I am perfect just the way I am and we are ENOUGH! unmasking is so incredibly astounding to expirence and finding people who you are comfortable doing it around is essential, I wish you all the best❤❤❤ (p.s I hope they were happy tears, I don't like making people sad)
@@calamity_cailynn Oh, definitely happy tears, and tears of relief, if anything. Being an INFJ, empathy is number one for me, and I am actually very relieved to find another who can be similar. Society definitely tries to squeeze those individual quirks out of us, especially as kids. It's always, "be quiet, stand still, these nice people aren't interested in that, don't make people uncomfortable." I'm sorry you feel like you've lost those aspects of yourself. But neuroplasticity is a thing! If you want to start exploring those aspects of yourself again, if only outside your job, I encourage you to do so! It's hard making space for yourself to be neurodivergent, but it feels so liberating and it's really an act of rebellion!
The poor doctor is STILL waiting to be a red head! Team-gingeJusticeForDoctor! Also what’s wrong with those kids in class just staring blank, no warm blooded teen would not see the 10th doctor as the hottest teacher, it wouldn’t matter he’s just saying ‘physics’ over and over 😅
I think I recall in one on the audio books, i think it might be The Last Voyage where he states "I'm many things, Sugar Mcaully, but neurotypical has never been one of them". I love this video, it makes me happy, i feel that's why I always connected with the Doctor so much growing up.
7:30 I heard one theory that the Doctor was actually talking about physics but it was too complicated and the TARDIS didn't know how to translate it, hence the "hope one of you is getting this down" at the end.
It’s an audio thingy…. Dang it…. That’s one of my Neurodivergent things, I think. I can’t listen to audio stories and follow them properly without also reading the words in front of me….
Just realized because of this video that Rose/Cassandra saying “I can’t Adam and Eve it” in the New Earth episode is her using Cockney rhyming slang! Brilliany
This video is so enjoyable and at the same time, it makes me sad. Because I relate to most of this stuff. Hard. However, some months ago, I got through the process of an ADHD diagnosis with my therapist and at the end, my school grades were too inconspicuous (they never mentioned my problems with doing homework or keeping anything organised) as were the neuropsychological test (I succeeded by basically spending my energy of the entire two next days on this) and my mother evaluated my problems much less severe than me (I'm her forth child and my next-to older brother was much more noticeable in his difficulties, also, I became good at pretending things were done.) to fit in with it. And it's so frustrating because I had the feeling that I finally understood things about me. Like, why I always shake my hands when I'm excited. Or why I have such a hard time with being punctual, keeping my stuff in order and literally waiting til the last minute to start with assignments. Or why I'm so easily over-stimulated and forget things so fast when I'm distracted. Or why I ramble so much about things that are important to me even though I know that no one else around me really cares about it. My therapist says that we can't exclude the possibility that all of this is learned behaviour because my whole family has these problems and she doesn't believe that both my parents and all of us five children have ADHD because this would be "statistically impossible". So, I'm sitting here, feeling even more alien than before since I feel like I can't even fit in with the people who don't fit in.
As a neurodivergent person who is actively getting a PhD in psychology you do not need to be formally recognized by medical pathology to resonate and find kinship with the neurodivergent community. If you struggle with the majority of the same struggles you are so welcome and allowed to look into ADHD coping strategies that don’t need to be at the level of the medical system which has often failed our communities. I would highly recommend the UA-cam channel How To ADHD :)
Also, you said to let you know if we wanted you to make more ... I'd love to see more of DT's Doctor's neurodivergent moments with other companions -- Martha and Donna especially! Thanks if you have the chance to do it! (and if you do a Part 1 and never get a chance to do any more parts, that is also a lovely ND trait I super-relate to
I guess that explains why 10 was my favorite for so long. He always made sense to me. And now I think I know why. I'm probably AuDHD. Already diagnosed with part of that.
Honestly, Matt Smith so blew my mind from the first instant, it completely erased my memory of what I had loved about David Tennant. Forgot all of it. I was that enamored. But this makes me yearn for those lost memories. Thank you for helping me remember.
Some have theorized that when he's just repeating physics he's actually talking about uber advanced Gallifreyan physics but there's no translation in English so it's just the word repeated over and over and that's my favorite thing. It's true nobody will convince me otherwise! 7:32
I AM SO SO THRILLED SOMEONE MADE THIS VIDEO!!! i can't believe its not talked about how neurodivergent ten and eleven are, the only ones that seem to come up are twelve and thirteen

the one at 10:30, I like to think that he told Mickey to hold it for a minute, meaning literally 1 minute, but obviously Mickey was waiting for him to tell him to stop
Doctor Who (and Scrubs, but I'm trying to keep focused) were a bible of weirdness and expression to me as a kid - found out I'm dyslexic when I was 17 and suddenly things made a lot more (and a lot less sense). I've had a stammer since I was 4, have been a hyperactive theatre kid my whole life!

i love how every doctor is neurodivergent bc they literally don't have human brains :)
also this video made me think i should get checked for some sort of mild neurodivergence bc i relate a little too much to this and my nd friends lol
Wouldn't that mean that all nom human characters, most of all gallifreyans are neurodivergent?
@@MyBelovedGhostAndMe in all fairness alot of gallifreyans tick boxes for ASD DID or most commonly among sociopathy and a basic lack of empathy an the majority of them seem to suffer from god complex's and a belief they can control everything
@@lordsathariel4384 I personally disagree with the DID and ASD statement. I'm not sure I see where time Lords display any symptoms of either disorder.
I keep hearing neurodivergence tends to run in packs (ND people tend to click better with each other than with NT people) so yeah, if most of your friends are ND and you relate to a lot of ND traits (ND is also A LOT of different things), it's worth asking your doctor.
YES I LOVE THE CONCEPTOF ALL THE DOCTORS BEING NEURODIVERGENT YAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYYA
I love "fixating on being ginger" because I understand that it's probably meantvto be about the fixating part but I just interpreted it as specifically fixating on being ginger being a common trait of neurodivergent people
I fixate on wanting to be ginger too, so honestly it might-
@aisleelovegreenwood6448 I fixate on going into the women's bathroom just because, at times(until I actually did at one point).
As a Neurodivergent human, I’d like to state that I have never once even remotely thought of what I’d look like with a different natural hair colour.
Only ever thought ‘bout what I’d look like with unnatural hair dyes. Blues, colour fades and such.
I dyed my hair ginger after watching that scene😂
Could you do a compilation of the 11th doctor? He has quite a bit of moments where he misses social clues and takes things too literally. Also when he eats all the food and hates it in the first episode he's in could be because he has trouble with the texture
I don’t really have the time/energy to make more of these at the moment (I cannot control the hyper focus lol) but I definitely agree I see all the doctors as different flavors of neurodivergent. 11 definitely has a lot of misreading social situations that are very relatable though 10 will always be my personal favorite :)
Yeah, his moments are great!
Amy saying "I´m pregnant" 3 times
11 after ending his thoughts: "Are you pregnant?"
There were variations though. 11 was more ADHD, 12 had Prosopagnosie (which verged on plot points sometimes, like when he didn't recognize Clara had the wrong age)
@SarahAndreaRoycesChannel I think the doctor in general is autistic, regardless of what incarnation.
Finally got the motivation to make a part 2 and tragically HBO max now black screens when I try and use the screen capture program I have rip. Thanks to the people who have appreciated this video never thought it would get any response as it was just made for fun :)
might be late but I love this video and it's kinda sad that you can't make more :( I do have a g drive link with all the episodes if you need them tho
@@millilpshi i’m not the op but do you still have that google drive?
disable hardware acceleration on the browser you are using
I relate so much to ten specifically, as well as rose! needing silence to think, easily distracted, fixations, fast talking while passionate, not understanding or preempting social cues easily and fidgets and stims ofc, honestly I think both are ND, maybe Martha too, it just makes sense to me idk! All three just live in their own bubbles and are very creative and passionate, as well as highly empathetic, the doctor especially, as he’s literally killed himself to save innocent people before, that’s the most obvious example of hyper empathy but yk 😭
David Tennent was always my favorite doctor. Nice to know there was most likely a tism-related reason lol
i think the bit in wild blue yonder when they're trying not to think definitely counts for this lol
David Tennant is an international treasure and he must be protected at all costs.
I don't often get passionate over these sorts of things.
you didn't lose it silly, existing in this world (a world built for neurotypicals) is entirely exhausting for any one on the neurodiverse spectrum to function in. instead of just being ourselves and letting our brains do their thing we're forced to learn how to mask ourselves, our personalities, our feelings, everything in order to escape ridicule from our peers. to fake it till we make it, to function within society's expectation of "normal"
you mention customer service "taking" your neurodivergentness, and it's a apt description, you have been forced to wear the mask for so long that your brain has started doing it naturally and has in turn basically shunned your true self. however you say that if you focus on it you can be that person again. THAT IS UNMASKING!!!! and it's so amazing and so joyfull because you have gone so long without being who you truly are, for so long you have pushed and shoved everything AMAZING about yourself down and I'm sure it has been exhausting, and absolutely draining and you've been living like that for who knows how long.
but to unmask, to be yourself and to function how you want, to stomp your feet and shake your hands and twist around in circles just because your body wants to can be so thrilling, to let your brain run a mile a minute and not care to slow down is what being neurodivergent is all about! take the time to learn your brain and your body again, learn to unmask completely an I promise your world will get just as big as it once was
@@calamity_cailynn
Heh...you know what, it takes a lot for someone like me to react to people's encouragement anymore, mostly because I've lost almost all my faith in humanity. That's being an INFJ for ya, and your telling me to unmask is...actually making me hold back tears, because you are right. I have been uncomfortable and so damn tired for so long...I've even gotten to the point of hypertension every day for over a year now.
Thank you for this beautiful comment, you've made my day so much better. :')
@@Naurdagnor I'm glad I could restore (if only just a little) of your faith in people, I know how hard being neurodiverse can be from first hand expirence and I have so much empathy for you and your struggles. I'm glad I could make a difference in your day and just know that from now one you have atleast me in your corner ready to hear all about your hyperfixations and crazy indescribable feelings and all the amazing things your brain will think up!
being neurodivergent is hard and is only made harder by society attempting to seclude us from eachother. you are perfect just the way you are and I am perfect just the way I am and we are ENOUGH!
unmasking is so incredibly astounding to expirence and finding people who you are comfortable doing it around is essential, I wish you all the best❤❤❤
(p.s I hope they were happy tears, I don't like making people sad)
@@calamity_cailynn
Oh, definitely happy tears, and tears of relief, if anything.
Being an INFJ, empathy is number one for me, and I am actually very relieved to find another who can be similar.
I wonder if there is a way we could talk further...let me see if you have a Discord or some other way to connect, I don't know how safe it is over comment sections.
Society definitely tries to squeeze those individual quirks out of us, especially as kids. It's always, "be quiet, stand still, these nice people aren't interested in that, don't make people uncomfortable."
I'm sorry you feel like you've lost those aspects of yourself. But neuroplasticity is a thing! If you want to start exploring those aspects of yourself again, if only outside your job, I encourage you to do so! It's hard making space for yourself to be neurodivergent, but it feels so liberating and it's really an act of rebellion!
“Am I being rude again?” wow didn’t know the doctor quoted me in an episode lmao
this is the first time ive noticed the guy in the background trying to wrap his fingers around his elbow after the doctor says its impossible
I loved the bit where the tardis appeared facing the container so he had to leave and come back
I have another one: at 10:59 when he kicks the control thing on the TARDIS and hurts himself, he only reacts to the pain after Mickey mentioned it.
I love this video, it makes me happy, i feel that's why I always connected with the Doctor so much growing up.
i'm obsessed with david tennant calling gorgeous inanimate things that are his special interest
7:30 I heard one theory that the Doctor was actually talking about physics but it was too complicated and the TARDIS didn't know how to translate it, hence the "hope one of you is getting this down" at the end.
Big finish confirmed he's Neurodiverse. "I've never been neurotypical" was a line
where?
@@unknowncreatures13in "tenth doctor tales" chapter 11 the doctor says hes been many things but neurotypical has never been one of them
@@StarryPuppeteer where can i find that?
@@unknowncreatures13 its a CD, its also on audible im pretty sure
It’s an audio thingy….
Dang it…. That’s one of my Neurodivergent things, I think. I can’t listen to audio stories and follow them properly without also reading the words in front of me….
Nothing's more relatable than the Doctor unintentionally being rude to people.
NOT THE CONTENT I ASKED FOR BUT THE CONTENT I NEEDED THANK YOU SO MUCH
30:14 I've never noticed he let his accent slip here on the word "Daleks"
24:04 Nina and Crowley 😨
Also David Tennant is my favourite doctor! I’m really glad about the return and retirement.
I'd love to see a part 2.
Also, you said to let you know if we wanted you to make more ... I'd love to see more of DT's Doctor's neurodivergent moments with other companions -- Martha and Donna especially! Thanks if you have the chance to do it! (and if you do a Part 1 and never get a chance to do any more parts, that is also a lovely ND trait I super-relate to
I grew up with David Tennants doctor, and I swear I picked up so much from him
I guess that explains why 10 was my favorite for so long.
I will always find it funny when the 10th doctor and 12th doctor need their companies to help them with social cues
13:58 anyone else notice the guard try to wrap his hand around his elbow to try and make his fingers meet😂?
I love that they acknowledged that the Doctor is a father/grandfather and Rose is completely surprised
Some have theorized that when he's just repeating physics he's actually talking about uber advanced Gallifreyan physics but there's no translation in English so it's just the word repeated over and over and that's my favorite thing. It's true nobody will convince me otherwise! 7:32
agreed!
I AM SO SO THRILLED SOMEONE MADE THIS VIDEO!!! i can't believe its not talked about how neurodivergent ten and eleven are, the only ones that seem to come up are twelve and thirteen
With a mind running faster than a super computer and two hearts pumping blood flow and what else through his alien body...
I'm sure a few odd quirks would happen
this is amazing- i love 10 so much he's so relatable and idk man- also, really appreciate having the subtitles, makes it a lot easier to go along with it all (love the commentary too 😎)
10:22 when a time lord loses track of time
the one at 10:30, I like to think that he told Mickey to hold it for a minute, meaning literally 1 minute, but obviously Mickey was waiting for him to tell him to stop
I see you with the subtitles on! Auditory processing is fun!
this was an amazing video thank you so much for making it. I would love to see a part two but it’s okay if not :)

Cool video. Very valid points. Also gives people an excuse to see more 10th Doctor. You got me in the mood to draw him now. Thanks
I love the 10th Doctor so much!!!❤❤❤❤ he's so adorable!!! I have dyslexia and ADHD so I relate to all of this, and it's hilarious!!😂😂😂
He's an alien that developed a brain separately to us, he's about as divergent from a neurological standpoint as you can get.
I love that he had to ask Rose if he was being rude 😂
David Tennant in the early 2000's : Oh, I wanted to be ginger, I've never been ginger !!
David Tennant in 2019 : oh yeah. *puts on sunglasses*
I LOVE this so much! I have often thought that the Dr is Neurodiverse, as a fellow Aspie and ADHDer I appreciate this a great deal.
He makes me happy to be on the autism spectrum.
Please please please make more this was awesome!!!!
As someone who is autistic, this video just makes me love 10 more.
why is this so wholesome
"i just gave away 10 years of my life"
"worth every second!~"
thats like 5 seconds to him lol and he ended up getting an extra life anyway
14:46 I felt this one too much. Oh, the neurodivergent urge to just spam press a button
i would love this with all of the doctors starting at 9, very relatable

Really appreciate the subtitles :)
This entire video gave me so many happy stims
this whole video is awesome. more!!!

hope theres more of this, i liked the little text comments
I love these sort of videos (I won't ever get bored or tired of them) because I love understanding 10 (Yes. And 11.)
He has a completely different biology from humans, by definition, relative to a human, he is neurodivergent :D
