      I know, right??
      He’s 903 years old (Ten), survived the biggest war in history by committing Genocide *twice*, and upon his own race, nonetheless. Lost everyone and everything familiar to him with the death of his home world, has lost companions, and yet…. None of it shows.
      Ten is quite cagey about his past life and even about revealing his species to those outside or still earning his trust. He holds his burdens awfully close, and yet, he always finds a way to barrel toward danger and take its impact, effectively with a smile on his face. Sometimes quite literally.
      The Doctor’s strength is admirable on so many levels. ♥️

      Huh wow, I kind of just realized this too. I've always found it difficult to relate to most people on a genuine level. Like bc I've done a lot of acting, I'm very much able to put on the face of someone who can interact with regular people, be what others are expecting, but that's only one small corner of me.
      Even as an adult, I'll get really really excited about something, like the ideas in a TV show or a book I really love, or the sensory experience of something and start talking about it all really fast, and 9 times out of 10 people just go, "wow, okay. So anyway..." and change the subject.

    "What happened to your accent!" Is hilarious in hindsight, now that I know he was using his natural accent while "faking" being Scottish and Tennant's doing a character voice for The Doctor at all other times. So, while in the show The Doctor got distracted and his accent slipped, in reality David was putting his false accent back on.

    • @SinfulAngel666
      @SinfulAngel666 9 місяців тому +3

      I rather think he dialled his true Scottish English accent down quite a bit.
      See, if you listen to the manner that David speaks in Staged, for example, his true accent is quite strong and may be hard for some people to understand.
      Accents in a show or movie can be a bit of a tricky balance.
      On one hand, a director wants a character’s accent to be quite obvious, but on the other hand, if their accent is too thick, they become difficult for some people to understand, hence ruining the immersion.

    Having learned more on the subject as I was watching, I believe I used to have this as a kid, hence why I was the one in my family who often took inspiration from the Doctor and could make them laugh.
    Later in life, I somehow lost that along the way...having been in Customer Service for 15 years kinda sucks it out of you.
    Now that I remember more of the times I acted like this, I feel it sort of...coming back naturally from those memories and I am feeling more happy than I have in a rather long while.

      @calamity_cailynn Рік тому

      you didn't lose it silly, existing in this world (a world built for neurotypicals) is entirely exhausting for any one on the neurodiverse spectrum to function in. instead of just being ourselves and letting our brains do their thing we're forced to learn how to mask ourselves, our personalities, our feelings, everything in order to escape ridicule from our peers. to fake it till we make it, to function within society's expectation of "normal"
      you mention customer service "taking" your neurodivergentness, and it's a apt description, you have been forced to wear the mask for so long that your brain has started doing it naturally and has in turn basically shunned your true self. however you say that if you focus on it you can be that person again. THAT IS UNMASKING!!!! and it's so amazing and so joyfull because you have gone so long without being who you truly are, for so long you have pushed and shoved everything AMAZING about yourself down and I'm sure it has been exhausting, and absolutely draining and you've been living like that for who knows how long.
      but to unmask, to be yourself and to function how you want, to stomp your feet and shake your hands and twist around in circles just because your body wants to can be so thrilling, to let your brain run a mile a minute and not care to slow down is what being neurodivergent is all about! take the time to learn your brain and your body again, learn to unmask completely an I promise your world will get just as big as it once was

      Heh...you know what, it takes a lot for someone like me to react to people's encouragement anymore, mostly because I've lost almost all my faith in humanity. That's being an INFJ for ya, and your telling me to unmask is...actually making me hold back tears, because you are right. I have been uncomfortable and so damn tired for so long...I've even gotten to the point of hypertension every day for over a year now.
      Thank you for this beautiful comment, you've made my day so much better. :')

      @@Naurdagnor I'm glad I could restore (if only just a little) of your faith in people, I know how hard being neurodiverse can be from first hand expirence and I have so much empathy for you and your struggles. I'm glad I could make a difference in your day and just know that from now one you have atleast me in your corner ready to hear all about your hyperfixations and crazy indescribable feelings and all the amazing things your brain will think up!
      being neurodivergent is hard and is only made harder by society attempting to seclude us from eachother. you are perfect just the way you are and I am perfect just the way I am and we are ENOUGH!
      unmasking is so incredibly astounding to expirence and finding people who you are comfortable doing it around is essential, I wish you all the best❤❤❤

      Oh, definitely happy tears, and tears of relief, if anything.
      Being an INFJ, empathy is number one for me, and I am actually very relieved to find another who can be similar.

      Society definitely tries to squeeze those individual quirks out of us, especially as kids. It's always, "be quiet, stand still, these nice people aren't interested in that, don't make people uncomfortable."
      I'm sorry you feel like you've lost those aspects of yourself. But neuroplasticity is a thing! If you want to start exploring those aspects of yourself again, if only outside your job, I encourage you to do so! It's hard making space for yourself to be neurodivergent, but it feels so liberating and it's really an act of rebellion!

    This video is so enjoyable and at the same time, it makes me sad. Because I relate to most of this stuff. Hard. However, some months ago, I got through the process of an ADHD diagnosis with my therapist and at the end, my school grades were too inconspicuous (they never mentioned my problems with doing homework or keeping anything organised) as were the neuropsychological test (I succeeded by basically spending my energy of the entire two next days on this) and my mother evaluated my problems much less severe than me (I'm her forth child and my next-to older brother was much more noticeable in his difficulties, also, I became good at pretending things were done.) to fit in with it. And it's so frustrating because I had the feeling that I finally understood things about me. Like, why I always shake my hands when I'm excited. Or why I have such a hard time with being punctual, keeping my stuff in order and literally waiting til the last minute to start with assignments. Or why I'm so easily over-stimulated and forget things so fast when I'm distracted. Or why I ramble so much about things that are important to me even though I know that no one else around me really cares about it. My therapist says that we can't exclude the possibility that all of this is learned behaviour because my whole family has these problems and she doesn't believe that both my parents and all of us five children have ADHD because this would be "statistically impossible". So, I'm sitting here, feeling even more alien than before since I feel like I can't even fit in with the people who don't fit in.

      As a neurodivergent person who is actively getting a PhD in psychology you do not need to be formally recognized by medical pathology to resonate and find kinship with the neurodivergent community. If you struggle with the majority of the same struggles you are so welcome and allowed to look into ADHD coping strategies that don’t need to be at the level of the medical system which has often failed our communities. I would highly recommend the UA-cam channel How To ADHD :)
