J-Metal, J = Japanese. Specifically, Kawaii (Cute) Metal It was the 20th Birthday of the girl that took the mic midway thru. They were honoring her birthday by bowing to her.

Try listening to the song Gimme Chocolate. That is more poppy for you.
Also let me recommend Doll$Boxx Loud Twin Stars
And Lady Baby Nippon Manju, need to have the subtitles on for this song.

Welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊They are definitely metal, but they mix the metal with JPop (not KPop, BABYMETAL are Japanese) and so many other musical styles and genres.
And as for the screaming you don't like that too many metal bands use - don't worry about that with BABYMETAL, they sing, they don't scream or growl (there are some growls in some songs but only where there is context, like the growl you heard early on in this one - but that is not the girls, it is on the backing track).
There was no rapping in this one - but they can do that too (try a live performance of 'BxMxC' - or I think you would like the official video too, but BABYMETAL are always at their best playing live).
'Headbanger' is a song about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday. 15 is significant in Japan as that is when compulsory education ends, so the girl is realising she will never be treated as a child again and her first 15 years passed so quickly, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
This video was from 2019 and it was Moametal's 20th birthday (she was the girl who took over the lead vocals for the last half of the song). 20 is the official coming of age in Japan, so it was a special occasion, she would not normally take over the lead vocals - their lead vocalist is Su-metal who was the one who started the song.
They weren't worshipping anybody - the crowd and girls were doing a (I think it is called) dogeza headbang. Dogeza bowing down on your knees and touching your head to the floor is the way they show the greatest respect to somebody in Japan. It was Moametal's special birthday, everybody there was showing respect and celebrating with her.
Your thumbnail says "was that Satan?" There is nothing Satanic about BABYMETAL (just don't watch 'BABYMETAL Death' until you know who and what they are as that will confuse you too much and will take too much explaining) - they are Japanese for a start and they don't have Satan there (less than 1% of the population are even Christian). BABYMETAL's songs are nearly all positive and uplifting and you couldn't hope to meet 3 more humble, sweet, polite and appreciative young ladies.
It usually takes about 3 songs to begin to understand BABYMETAL - the normal stages are:
    1. What did I just watch, I'm so confused. I'll try another song.
    2. That sounded really good, but I still don't understand what I'm watching - I need to watch another song.
    3. I'm still a bit confused, but that was so good - I need to hear more and see more. I will listen to everything I can find from them.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one is different to the last one you heard, but they are all BABYMETAL. They have fun songs just for dancing and singing along, they have deep and meaningful songs, they have fast and heavy songs, they have soft ballads - they do everything and refuse to be put in any one box or limited to just one or two styles. There is no other band quite like BABYMETAL.

There's no relationship between this group and Kpop, in any case Jpop mixed with metal and many more subgenres.
Also a lot of things need to be explained in this version so I'll let someone else tell you about it, just remember that we are -NotACult- 💀
There are way better versions out there for react to this song. I'm gonna left in my next comment where to get safe clips to react if YT allows me to do it.

Babymetal is a very complex group and you chose a very complex way to get introduced to them by listening to this performance as your first song. This was a one off special performance of Headbanger. They are Japanese btw, so have nothing to do with K pop.
I would recommend you watch a song like 'Light and Darkness '. Always watch their live performances. That one is a little less in the metal side but still gives you a good idea of who they are. Their song 'Monochrome ' would also be a great choice. Choose the live version of course.

  • @garykeeling2275
    @garykeeling2275 5 місяців тому +3

Well, "metal" is right there in the name, lol! To explain what was going on in the middle of the song, this is the fan-favorite version of the song which the fans affectionately call "Moa-bangeeerrr!" Moa-metal (Moa Kikuchi) is one of the backup dancers and one of the founding members of Babymetal. For many fans, Moa is the most popular member (she's just so damn cute and friendly and crowd-engaging), but usually, she is just a backup dancer and a backup singer, and she rarely gets to sing lead, so when she does, the crowd goes crazy for her! This concert was a celebration of her 20th birthday, which is why they gave her a lead vocal section. The song itself is about the girls' first metal concert experience, which was when their producer Koba took them to see Metallica in the early 2010s, when Babymetal was first forming (and the girls were 11 and 12 years old and knew nothing about heavy metal). The "demon voice" and the "worshipping" parts were just nods toward the way vocals are sometimes done in heavy metal, and the way metal fandoms get almost fanatical. It's basically a theatrical depiction of what it is like to experience a heavy metal concert. It's all tongue-in-cheek, and there is nothing Satanic or blasphemous about it. By the way, not K-pop, but rather J-pop (or J-metal). The "K" in K-pop refers specifically to Korean, while BABYMETAL are Japanese.

Happy New Year! Their latest album was the first one to not have a single song with any screaming vocals in the background. All their music is definitely (heavy) metal, but they have a lot of variety and plenty of their songs are rather soft. They started out back in 2010 aged just 11 and 12 years old, but before going back to their older performances perhaps continue with a couple of new songs like "Light And Darkness", "Divine Attack" or "Timewave". Stick to live performances because their choreography is half the experience.

I should add that Headbanger is off their first album, so if 12 year old Japanese school girls can perform it, then I'm sure you can handle it too! 😄 Suzuka Nakamoto is a very unique and good singer and all three of them are talented performers with rigorous education/training.

Welcome, Thanks and Happy New Year from Japan, the homeland of BABYMETAL 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Please continue to explore BM.
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

This definitely wasn't the way to start watching Babymetal for you... their is literally 10 year history which went before this (and more from before Babymetal as well actually).
That said, even those into metal are shocked by Babymetal in a totally opposite way: girls doing metal with dancing ?
In some sense Babymetal throws off everyone to some extend. On average it takes 3 songs/videos to internalize what they are about.

This is a great version of the song, but definitely NOT a good version of it for a first time view as it can make you, like you were, totally confused. This was for a Moa's 20th birthday that's why she took over the mic for latter half of the song. Definitely check more out, every song is different, but all some type of metal variation. You could have been so much more confused if you first listened to "Gimme Chocolate", which is the song most people are confronted the first time they look up Babymetal. And that is a very unconventional song for both metal and pop fans.
Don't worry, the girls were scared too when watching their first metal videos when the producer came up with the idea of this kawaii metal project that now lasts for 13 years.
Apart from the other suggestions I'd throw in their first single which is more pop oriented: "Doki Doki Morning", either the official music video to have a look at how it all began or the live version from the Fox Festival 2017, which was one of the last appearances of original member Yui "Yuimetal" Mizuno.

Thats a great reaction and understandable. The thing to really get a grasp is that the band is about putting on a show. They put on a live show that you dont forget. As far as worshipping each other yeah it looks that way but these people are Japanese using Christian iconography because its cool not because it means anything. Anyway it was Moas birthday so she took over singing from su. Usually Su sings the whole song. The best way to understand the show is to keep in mind that they are not christians. The imagery is just meant to be a theatrical performance that the audience can participate in. There is no worship going on its just people letting off stress acting out pre arranged parts that have developed with the band over their 10 years. I hesitate to mention it but if this freaks you out you probably arent going to like hearing about the time they crucified Su on her 16th birthday because it looked cool. It is one of the best live performances in rock history. It brings grown men to tears by its sheer beauty. If babymetal confuses you you are watching babymetal. That is their best point. Nobody has ever done anything like this before.

It's Japan - don't worry about whatever they do - it's gonna be weird - but you unfortunately stumbled on a fairly unique video - it was the girls singing birthday (last half) - she rarely gets a chance to take the mike (and she is VERY well loved - possibly the most of the group members)- so ppl were pretty hyped up anyway. Don't panic though...it's not a cult - and they're VERY good (possibly best live band for the last 13 years) - all tracks VERY different and invariably surprising. This is FAR from the best version of this song but you didn't know. A better version is listed below.
BABYMETAL is not K-pop (Korea) or J-pop (Japan, where they’re from) or even J-metal; BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs:
Doki Doki Morning (official music video)
    Iine! (official MV)
Gimme Chocolate!! (official MV or Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
    Megitsune (official MV)
BABYMETAL Death (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version) [for those who are religiously sensitive, see the Budokan Black Night 2014 version]
Onedari Daisakusen (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Song 4 No Uta (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Uki Uki * Midnight (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Catch Me If You Can (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Live at Sonisphere 2014 version)
    Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Road of Resistance (Legend 2015 New Year Fox Festival version)
    Karate (official MV)
Meta Taro (Five Fox Festival version)
    GJ! (Fox Festival 2017 version)
Sis Anger (Fox Festival 2017 version)
    Shanti Shanti Shanti (official MV)
    Pa Pa Ya!! (official MV)
    BxMxC (official MV)
    Metalizm (official MV)
    Metali!! (official MV)
I would include the links but, for some reason, UA-cam sometimes thinks I'm posting spam and will delete my comment. For the links, see the UA-cam playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty”; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)

Good reaction. It's the first time I've seen BabyMetal react for the first time, pardon the redundancy, to a K-pop reactor. They have always been metalheads reacting to BabyMetal...
It is gratifying to see that the first impression is the same for everyone hahahahahahaha
The words that come out of their mouths are usually:
What the hell am I seeing? and It shouldn't work, but it does.
And this is for me the magic of Babymetal. He has united two incompatible worlds, apparently, successfully.
If you continue your journey into the fox hole you will discover that we fandom (known as The One) are very special. Without going any further, we included in a survey by Metal Hammer (a prestigious international Heavy Metal magazine) to highlight the most important metal groups in history in the Top 10, including Babymetal (a group with just over 5 years of existence in these moments).

Babymetal has actually been around since 2010 and lets just say they have a large and complicated mythology. All to say of all the songs of theirs you could have listened to first this one is perhaps a toughie because of that massive legacy. I did actually enjoy your reaction and your honesty. Honesty is best. Perhaps BM is not for you but know that though they have epically loyal fans and they are not a cult. Their mythology is actually part of their long term charm. And a lot of the strange -to the uninitiatiated- bowing and adoration had a lot to do with Moametal's (singer who was given the lead mic) 20th birthday. An important date for a Japanese female. Also know that Babymetal actually created their own genre of metal, Kuwaii metal or cute or idol metal. So the metal's always gonna be there in one form or another. That said every and I mean every BM song is unique and different. They have never been scared of trying new and different styles. Just saying.

Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed little interest and the girls had financing mainly from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

Yui Mizuno left BabyMetal in 2018 due to health reasons and at their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019 after Yui's departure) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

Japanese music is definitely not for you, their music is very versatile, quite the opposite of kpop, at some point it becomes very repetitive and starts to get boring, in the case of rock they always want to classify it as satanic, you should expand the music more and appreciate their instruments, if not continue in kpop.

It's so funny to see religions people trying to rap their brains around things that might go against their superstitious belief's . Don't worry the song is about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th B- day . But if you want to challenge your religious sensibilities , check out their song " Death " . If you dare . mmMHA HA Ha !
