This song is always the first example I use as to why using theatre/character actors in animated musical movies is so important. It's pure vaudevillian color through the whole song, it's in my top 3 favorite childhood songs along with Gospel Truth and Friend Like Me.
Incidentally all three songs are my go-tos in karaoke. I don’t have the greatest voice but I’m an above average character actor. I just love embodying characters when I sing.
And despite the innately menacing nature of the song, he's done a superb job at maintaining a background 'joyous' sound to his voice really keeping with the nefarious nature of the character.. it's really skillfully done.. ❤
I first saw Ken Page as a replacement for the Lion in the original Broadway production of The Wiz. From Guys and Dolls to Ain't Misbehavin', Cats and beyond, he has always been a wonderful singer with a gorgeous voice.
I feel like Oogie boogies song is SO UNDERRATED. Like I love Jack just as much as the next person- really, do, like obsessed with him- but oh my god do people completely look over boogie. He is AMAZING
Can you King Gator in "All Dogs Go to Heaven"? Ken Page also does a wonderful job here. Melba Moore as the Heavenly Whippet also has a great performance in the movie as well.
I've seen vids of the guy performing this live and he has so much fun with it, and that's key for a good song and one that is so memorable. If you hate singing the song every time it's requested it's gonna suck, there are artist who hate the fact they are known for one song in particular and absolute HATE that song.
I love you. Your smile and power of personality just jump at me. Unfirtinatly, i dont know many of the arists you have reacted to. Guess i have catching up to do, if im going to enjoy your reactions! (I alwayss listen to a piece on my own, before hearing anyone else react or analize, just so i can have my own feels!)
A really cool analysis would be looking at Robin William's Genie song Friend like Me and then looking at The Rock's You're Welcome song to see how you would've coached them since they're both not singers but carry the songs through Charisma.
I had the immense pleasure of watching them perform Nightmare Before Christmas live with a lot of the original voice actors. During this song, Ken Page actually started a beat or two early, and the conductor just gently placed his hand on Ken's to let him know. Without missing a beat or restarting the song, Ken continued "Well well well, what have we HERE?" as if using "here" to mean the right beat of the song. It is so amazing to see someone truly great at their craft work, even in slip ups, because the way that they can roll with the punches and cover it up, even making the audience laugh along at the same time, is outstanding. That being said, I feel much the same way watching you. The way that you guide us through songs, bring to light different techniques that we've heard but may not have noticed before, and genuinely seem to have fun through it all is inspiring. I was very into music years ago and played in my middle school's orchestra, but I wasn't able to keep up with it through high school and now college due to life circumstances. You've brought a bit of that spark back for me, so for that, I say thank you.
It’s crazy that I was DRAWN IN to Oogie Boogie as a child . He was and is my favorite character in this movie. ❤ I loved the way he talked and the twang in his voice
I picture people performing this piece on Broadway rolling around on stage like Patti Labelle used to do in her prime like the rent was due. I love a gleeful Disney villain without a redemption arc! Edit: Also - he gives me the same vibe as the maneating plant from the musical Little Shop of Horrors. Same voice actor maybe?
Thank you for your analysis, you really are teaching me to appreciate some things in new ways and broaden my understanding and perspective. And this coming from me who has very little music talent.
Might be worth it to do an entry on the songs from the musical "Little Shop of Horrors". The music was written by Alan Menken and is essentially the forerunner to his work on the Disney film "Hercules".
Why haven’t you ever done a vid on Mariah Cary. I have some great suggestions for songs that that are awesome. 1. If it’s over. 2. Anytime you need a friend. 2. I am free

Like Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel! She characterizes the hell outta that role
i always lump this together with 'the boss' parts in the opening number of 'side show'
The best disney productions were when they were written and cast as if they were stage productions

RIP Ken Page (Jan 20, 1954 - Sept 30, 2024) What an amazing performer
My faaaaaaave from this movie! The way it demands all energy to sing.😂
Kinda makes sense for the shaking when oogie boogie is just a bunch of bugs
I first saw Ken Page as a replacement for the Lion in the original Broadway production of The Wiz. From Guys and Dolls to Ain't Misbehavin', Cats and beyond, he has always been a wonderful singer with a gorgeous voice.
Don't forget King Gator from "All Dogs Go to Heaven!"
I feel like Oogie boogies song is SO UNDERRATED. Like I love Jack just as much as the next person- really, do, like obsessed with him- but oh my god do people completely look over boogie. He is AMAZING
this soundtrack is soooo gooood!!!
Still listen to this DAY! Especially to this song & Kidnap the Sandy Claws, both are so fun to sing.
@@davidam4080 jack’s ok and he’s back ok
I saw Ken Page sing this live and he was amazing! I love this song so much.
He just has so much fun singing this song!

*Rest in peace Ken Page 🩵💙💐*
The way Ken Page sings this song will forever be iconic

This song is why Oogie Boogie is my favorite character from this movie. Sangin' down AND hilarious.
Ken Page just passed and I was going to request a review of him. I’m so glad you had done this.
I love Oogie Boogie so much…and it’s all because of Ken Page’s voice…it’s so dang fun to hear and watch
I love these Disney reactions. Do all the movies; I’m so here for it!
Do the bells of Notre Dame! That ending high note is heavenly!
So much emoting and expression in this song.
Ken Page is amazing!!!
SO HAPPY!! Would love to see you cover more Disney songs honestly. The other songs in this movie, Genie's songs in Aladdin, Aristocats, etc.
React to "Kidnapping Santa claus" 😂😂😂😂😂

Looooove when talented performers get their dues. One of my all-time Disney favourites. 😍
I heard Danny Elfin sing this live last year after he sang 'what's this' it was amazing!
It’s crazy that I was DRAWN IN to Oogie Boogie as a child . He was and is my favorite character in this movie. ❤ I loved the way he talked and the twang in his voice

Ken Page is just passed away on his age 70 years old
