Detailed Sound Test: Wahoo KICKR vs CORE vs SNAP vs ROLLR!

  • Here's your complete test on the noise levels of the Wahoo KICKR (V5), KICKR CORE, KICKR SNAP, and ROLLR. I test the units one after another in the same spot, with a three-tier test protocol, showing the quietest it can be, the average cruising around speed volume, and the loudest it can be. Simple, yet effective.
    This is a direct sound/volume/noise comparison between all of Wahoo’s current lineup of bike trainers, one after another. I go through the following units:
    Wahoo KICKR ROLLR
    Wahoo KICKR SNAP
    Wahoo KICKR CORE
    Wahoo KICKR V5/2020
    I skipped the Wahoo KICKR Bike because it’s not a trainer. Plus, I don’t have one. But I don’t think there’s too many people that are using noise as the deciding factor between the KICKR V5/2020 and the $3,500 KICKR BIKE (and spoiler, noise levels between those two are basically the same).
    For each test , I tested each trainer at three different speeds (wheel speed is all that matters for volume on smart trainers):
    Slow speed (easiest gearing): This is ideal for ERG mode, because not only is it the quietest on every trainer, but it also increases accuracy/responsiveness in ERG mode on virtually every trainer.
    Cruising along speed (20MPH/30KPH): This would be the speed you’d likely be in within a group ride or just cruising along at a good clip.
    Sprint speed: This is basically the loudest the trainer gets at the fastest I’m able to make it go (on flat ground).
    Within the video, I do each test successively for each trainer, and then towards the end, I compare them rapid-fire style back to back.
    Go forth and enjoy!

    I had an annoying click and it turned out to be my seat post. Taking it out, cleaning it and the seat tube and reinstalling did the trick.

      Yeah, I'm convinced it's the seatpost as well. Given it only clicked when I sat back down again, it's gotta be that.

    I was booted out (by my family) of my own basement for noise pollution, but it wasn't for the noise the device made. It was for the music and Yak sounds. My rollers and bicycle are reasonably quiet. I have moved to my laneway garage, where I can pump the tunes, and the neighbors don't seem to mind.

      You should think about a trainer tyre/tire. They are designed not to self destruct with a wheel-on trainer (but of course you can’t use it on the road).

    I think the reason I would get the KickR RollR, is to pair with the dual Garmin Rally XC pedals (I have Shimano SPD's on all my shoes my gravel bike, and MTN bikes) The ability to analyze your power on your bike outdoors in comparison with power when indoors. If my training was mostly indoors the immersion and smoother and less noisy ambiance of other KickR trainers when paired with hill simulation and the rest of the Wahoo ecosystem. But at that point you might as well compare to the whole Garmin Tacx ecosystem with sensors and watches too.
    The bottom line is you can create a entire fitness tracking home and outdoor system that puts all your data on one or several dashboards and if that is motivating and keeping you fit for competition or just Fit4life then it's a win, win situation.

    My Neo makes a lot more noise when the resistance goes up in ERG, I have the same frame Ray and had the clicking, it was the crappy pressfit bottom bracket, I installed a Hope bottom bracket that screws both cups together internally, no more clicking, recommend them, even if you do need a hope tool to fit them

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I used to have the bottom bracket click, and then back a few months ago the LBS swapped it out. I think this time it's the seatpost, as you'll notice the click goes away as soon as I stand-up, and immediately returns as my butt hits it again.

      I have the Kickr Snap and when using ERG mode I put my bike in quite a low gear. Maybe like 34-23 and it seems to keep the sound down quite considerably. I think its because the flywheel is having to break so much to match the low gearing. Not sure if that'll help with the Neo.

Apparently, Zwift was aware of this for at least two years and did nothing. More recently someone lost patience and published a blog about it, i.e. blew the whistle, and got banned for speaking up.

    Hello people! Hello DC Rainmaker! Maybe someone of you can help me. I normally drive outside with my Sram Rival Axs Powermeter. I now have my bike on the Wahoo Kickr Core. The Wahoo shows a good 10% more compared to the rival. 225W to 205W for example. The funny thing is that the 225W from Kickr feels similar to 225W from the rival on the street. What do you think is more precise? Which device should I prefer?
    All calibration has been unsuccessful. Would be really grateful for a good tip!Thank you! Marc

    Lower numbers on the sprint on the wheel on trainers, looked like similar effort levels. Makes me feel better about my pathetic sprint going from a Vortex + 4iiii power meter to a Kickr core with no external power meter. I assume this is fairly common?

    Will the Wahoo Roller ruin my tire like the Wahoo snap?

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  2 роки тому

      It’s not likely. There’s no more than regular outdoor pressure for Rollr, whereas for SNAP, a tremendous amount of pressure is out in the tire for press-on force (which, is what allows it to be accurate as a power meter)
