No... it's about trying to instill some social skills in her child because the reality, like it or not is that people with social skills tend to get farther in life.
this is the problem with mary. she’s not open to try other options it’s either her way or the highway. she forced brenda to invite her child that wasn’t originally invited, and forced sheldon to attend the party when he didn’t even want to go. both ways didn’t work out and she’s still convinced this will “help” sheldon.
No offense but I hated Mary here. She forced Brenda to invite somebody she didn't want to and didn't even bother to ask Sheldon if he even wanted to go
@@SANDIADIA she has every right to not invite Sheldon if she doesn't want to. For example my friends from my last school in my birth country didn't invite my brother to their birthdays. However my friends from my penultimate school did invite my brother since their parents are also friends with my parents
Nerd here: 3:04 props goof up. Blue L.E.D.s would not have been in children's toys in that year because they wouldn't show up on market for another seven or so years later but not in toys because of their steep price. That would take another five to seven more years at least for production cost to go down and then be cheap enough to throw into toys.
It is Texas. They are a football fanatic state. Many people don't know that The University of Texas Austin and the surrounding area is a major technology hub. Not just a blue chip football school. The University of Texas Austin is known for its engineering and science programs. It is also a very competitive school to get it. I found it interesting that Sheldon did not attend that school. but going to the East Texas Tech University. On the hand, Paige went to the University of Texas Austin. As mentioned by Paige, they were involved in the Texas Super Collider Program which was awarded by the Federal Government to the state of Texas. The University of Texas Austin played a leading role in that program. I think it is probably his friendship with Dr. Sturgis plus his desire to stay close to home that influence his decision. It also might be the full scholarship that East Texas Tech offered to him. It also appeared to be a small town smaller school vs a school in a large city like University of Texas Austin. My high school had a math child prodigy like Sheldon. He too end up graduating early. You would think with all the universities in the San Francisco Bay Area, he would had gone to UC Berkeley as well as Stanford. Even San Jose State University, which has a reputation of being one of the top undergraduate engineering programs. Instead, he went to a smaller Catholic university called Santa Clara University. it is not as well known as the three bigger universities that I mentioned, but still a good school. Maybe his family is Catholic and was offered a full scholarship. Not to mentioned he get to live at home. Sort of like University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University and Duke University. Three schools are blue chip basketball schools, but also very competitive schools known for their science and engineering programs. These schools are also in a technology hub in North Carolina called the Research Triangle, since when you connect the locations of these three schools on a map, they form a triangle.
I noticed a lot of parents (mothers in particular) presuming they know what's best for their kids, even when it's plain and obvious the kid (a) doesn't fit in with the crowd in the first place, and (b) they're not interested or know about 90% of what the prevailing culture likes to talk about *and* vice versa. Perhaps they want to force them to learn to socialize better. Thing is, this "throw'em in the water and they either sink or swim" assumes the kid actually deep down has the ability to learn to swim. That makes Mary's approach extremely simple-minded, whatever other (positive) traits she may have. Mary also seems to concerned with, as the old UK sitcom goes, Keeping Up Appearances.
I get Mary's point of view as a mother, but after all these years did she really think Sheldon and Billy were friends, and therefore Sheldon would've cared about the party? Does she even watch her son?
I remember the analog computer screen. Not to mentioned the dial up telephone baud modem. Yes, I have to make sure the rest of the family is using the phone when I am trying to get on the internet,

Brenda does not like Mary. The only reason she even talked to her family is because George Sr is friends with her and her husband. Brenda is also friendler and not judgemental like Mary.

"What was everything that you just said?" "Fascinating." Aw, probably the most wholesome interaction between Sheldon and Billy to date.

She wants her son to go the party and participate. All in hope so he learns to be "normal." Her heart is worried as a mom.
Why is Mary so determined that Sheldon go to a party he doesn't want to attend? It seems like it's more about her than him.

No, she just wants him to be a bit more social because being genius is still not enough in this world, you still need to deal with people.
