Being that you wound the wire around the rod by hand with little effort proves that 24kt is WAY too soft for jewelry.. It'll bend and mis shapen over nothing. At least you'll still have pure gold but that high premium you paid for it is gone now.

So you fused the rings did you add flux , and what was the cotton wool looking stuff you did the soldering the ends on ? How many hours would you say ?
No added flux but you can use it too . White cotton - ceramic wool
