I have my dads old Sears Craftsman Kromedge Tap and Die set from the 70's All SAE there.. Ive been meaning to pick up a good metric set.. you just inspired me
It's a tool I hate to buy, but nice to have when the time comes
Thanks for the review and advertising the tap and die kit. Hadn't thought much about using one in years, but when you snap a bolt off in a head I can definitely see a need. These lithium battery cells you get for making your own solar storage unit have some pretty soft metric contacts on them. Been thinking about how careful I'll have to be when I build my storage battery bank. Keep up the videos, they are great.
The darn metric needs have been hitting more and more. I guess this set here should mean, I'll never need them now LOLOL
Prices went UP since I last checked but there is still a deal at Vevor !
Speaking of Roll Arounds... I just picked up a US General 72" top and bottom box from HF. Got it for pre pandemic pricing as the Gen 3 boxes will be hitting the store shelves in May and they are clearancing out the Gen 2 stuff!
Good deal ! I might have to check on those myself, but mm....The Wife mmmm...
Vevor make pretty good workshop tools. Pretty solid quality, and affordable. Their Helicoil insert kit is (or rather was) a really good buy, however I think they have discontinued it.
Discontinued ? Could be they are making some change to the product specs etc. I like the prices and the quality is "good enough for me". I don't need PRO tools, getting too old for that LOLOL...
I would buy that IF they included the tap drills with the set. I don't know why these sets don't include the tap drill sizes for the taps.
Still a great value for the $$$$$
Tap drills would be SWEET and complete the set, you got that right.
Just bought one. I went with the metric set as well. No bolts are standard anymore
Yeah, they are sneaking them into our everything now
Coffee and Tools... That's a nice looking set. I only have a few SAE taps and dies and only a couple metric ones. I could both sets. Maybe I will get them and review both sets on my channel.. Not sure if you know but metric taps and dies have been around since the 80's. Taps and dies are for cutting new threads not to clean them.. You need thread chasers to clean threads and they do come in both SAE and metric sizes.
True, but didn't want to get down and dirty with it. I worked about 7 years in a machine shop, but we used whatever at times.
I still don't have a full tap and dye set either regular or metric. Old hand me downs never are complete lol.
Yeah my standard looks like hand me down :)
walmart has the happybuy version which is the exact same set for $69
Can't say I've seen this one at WalMart LOLOL...but this is Vevor's set. Could be similar or made in the same plant. We all know that deal.
Venor makes a 60 piece set that is metric and imperial.
Yeah, something happened at the communication end, but I have a full set of imperial, so..okm we''ll do ...metric now too..., metric sockets, metric tape measure, metric drill bits, metric digital calipers and now......tap and die..wow...
@@SirTools Yes metric is very necessary in today's global market. It's easier to learn more accurate and world wide. But Americans love their feet and inches. You gotta get with the times or be left behind.
You darn right about that. I use metric for all my 3d print jobs from design to finish product and I like it. Tools on the other hand is more like.....oh no..it's metric
Vevor YEAH ! ! ! ha ha ha
This may look nice, but it is a low-quality Tap and Die set.
No disrespect to Vevor, but I don't think they actually made this set. It looks like many other 110 piece sets over on Amazon and they even use the same marketing literature and photos.
There is a lot of "cross over" and I would bet the company just puts their name on the box.
I have never had a full set of SAE or metric as I would just buy one piece if I needed it....not very smart but at the time $10 was cheaper than $100 ;) Great video and a really nice looking set!
Me 2 for a long long time :)
LIKED#23!!!
ha ha ha....Got to hate that metric but swim with the current they tell me.
It's you Americans catch up with the rest of us the world in the metric system!
Metric is better in my opinion, but the USA is slow to pick up. Maybe someday !
@@SirTools Yeah it's long time over due. It is definetly better. Much easier measuring in millimeters than 2/32 and 1/16 and what ever you guys call it 😂
I have to agree. All my 3d printing is done with metric and it is SO much easier to deal with in CAD programs etc or measuring up a job locally here for a 3d print. :)
@@SirTools I think you guys are probably the first Americans ever to agree with me on this subject. Haha! Finally I am making some ground! Metric for the win!!
To be clear, I have worked in 5 countries and having a good chance to work in both areas, my vote is metric LOLOL...you bet'cha...🤠
If you hate your neighbor let him use it or gift it to them!
The set is now with the Houston VW club and they are happy with it. :)
@@SirTools yup until they break a tap off in something then money saved is lost 2 or 3 times over. NEVER skimp on taps
They've reported happy with them, so all good here and god knows they are cleaning out old rusted stuff from the 50s and 60s LOLOL. Personally my taps are old Made in USA, but I have no metric in the set...back then we didn't even think about metric
Just got a big set of Vevor mixed SAE and Metric. These are the worst taps and dies I have ever seen. The shanks are very small on most of the taps, making a very small square to drive them. The shanks could actually break before the threaded end! There are no centers, so a tap follower can't be used. The threads are truncated on several, and almost every tap and die have lots of burrs. If the metal is good, I can repair some of them as I use them, if not it's a total loss.
Sorry to hear this. I took my set over to a VW club where they are using them to clean up old threads etc and reported happy with them. But that was 100% metric set. Vevor's stuff is what I call above harbor freight, but just a tiny bit better in some cases. Can you return that set ? or too late for a return.
@@SirTools I should return it, but if I can get them to work by deburring as I use them, they're still worth the money.
I've had good luck with all their various tools and yet I'm pretty good at breaking things around the garage LOLOL..
@@SirTools I have 2-3 other Vevor tools, and they're just fine. Maybe some factory worker had a bad day. :)
I'll go with the bad day. God knows we all have those 🤠
If their in over 200 countries Larry, they might want to check what planet in what galaxy they are cauuuuuuse brother, currently, there are 195 countries worldwide. I knew I shoulda taken that correspondence course in common core math!!🤪
I’ve got setS of both. So I have this illness….having this set is not helping!! Chineseium grade “steel”?
My tractor is all metric! Everything else seems to be metric engines/transmissions/transfer cases….but the frame and body…imperial!!
I’ve got a minimum of two each in metric and imperial…they forced us!! I’m just waiting to see what they do to screwup screw drivers, chisels, flashlights and magnets!!😎🤣👊🏻
Metric magnets suck.
