When I was about six, I was in ballet classes. My mom watched the News Hour a lot, and I always thought the ending music positively LENT itself to ballet! It made for great mother-daughter bonding time, a six-year-old being informed and able to practice her moves Monday through Friday, and a mom's spirit lifted even when the news is bad.
I used to have a dog that would sing to that, and only that, theme music. On TV or radio, it didn't matter. And, she could harmonize to it. It was the oddest thing. Seriously.
1:53 - the end Reminded me of: a) "1812 Overture" from KIDSONGS: RIDE THE ROLLER COASTER (1990) b) "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from THE LION KING (1994) c) "Fievel Gets Lost: from AN AMERICAN TAIL (1986) d) "Let Us Sing Together" from WEE SING IN SILLYVILLE (1989) e) "Weil Mein Herz Dich Nie Mehr Vergisst" from TITANIC (1998) f) "Part of Your World" from THE LITTLE MERMAID (1989) g) "Super Password Theme" from SUPER PASSWORD (1984)
Let me remind everyone that where it not for Public Broadcasting there would be so many people without TV channels to watch on Weekends. And weekdays. So be kind and let us forget the Ptivate Television stations like Mnet and NBC.
I sometimes wonder to myself, who purchased any of these daily videocassettes of The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour or later The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer back in the day like almost everyday.
Exactly. (Or, even better, bring back, possibly, Robert McNeil, although he is getting, gulp, old.) Then it will be the 1990's all over again! But that was when the Newshour was really kicking FOX's, CNN's, and MSNBC's butts. People watch CNN, FOX, ABAC, NBC, etc. so much that it makes PBS and the Newshour extremely underrated. Have to bring back the old theme music though. That'll bring back some old PBS fans... maybe...
The guy at the end who talks about the home videos used to scare me, especially when he said the phone number, "1-800-328-PBS-1." He just sounded so serious!
What is the name of the music from 0:04 to 0:19 in the video? I just heard it on NPR and in the movie "Austenland". EDIT: It's Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 4 in Eb Major, K.495 Movement III - Rondo (Allegro vivace).
If any PBS show would be sponsored by PepsiCo today, the endorsing of PepsiCo wouldn't include KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell because PepsiCo doesn't own those companies anymore.
Epic. Brings back memories of my father watching this program and hearing this song.
Pepsico
1. Pepsi 🥤

I've been looking everywhere for this closing. I've missed it so much. Thanks for posting.
We miss you Gwen Ifill! Rest in Peace Gwen Ifill.
Jim Lehrer also left us last night, too. May him and Ifill rest in peace.
That was my past. I was one of the editors in the New York office. Such a great team. So smart.

My father used to watch this show when I was a kid for me same thing oh! the memories.
It's been a while since I have heard music like this.
Dedicated to Jim Lehrer 1934-2020
This song reminds me of scraping my dinner plate into the trashcan as a kid, lol. A classic.
Always gives me goosebumps.
RIP Rosliand P Walter
some one needs to make a fantasy series based around this theme.

I remember that one 1991
pbs needs to bring this theme music back.
or change the current theme . . . I swear it sounds like Nightly Business Report's old theme . . .
1:53 - the end
Reminded me of:
a) "1812 Overture" from KIDSONGS: RIDE THE ROLLER COASTER (1990)
b) "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from THE LION KING (1994)
c) "Fievel Gets Lost: from AN AMERICAN TAIL (1986)
d) "Let Us Sing Together" from WEE SING IN SILLYVILLE (1989)
e) "Weil Mein Herz Dich Nie Mehr Vergisst" from TITANIC (1998)

Superb string section, wish I knew who composed it, and for that matter who arranged it as well
That home video part was the scariest to me. "1-800-328-PBS-1." That serious voice just rings in my head.
“For the first time in foreveeeeeeeeerrrrrr.....”
RIP Gwen Ifill.
Andrew Flores Eiffel
RIP Jim Lehrer
One of the best theme songs created by PBS. ^^
(Too bad it's not as memorable now, though. *inward sigh*)
Rare White AT&T logo!
How come pbs news is different from the other networks news anyway?

same here, Theo.
Does anyone know what this music is at the ending credits?
Alright, Lion Maru. It is time for g'day...
Grendizer, V3, Lion Maru, Black, Gorenger, Ninja Captor. They be next in Edward Cullen's Tokumei Chapel...
What is the name of the music from 0:04 to 0:19 in the video? I just heard it on NPR and in the movie "Austenland".

mozart kv417 horn concerto no 2 rondo
I FORGOT
Is that Elizabeth Farnsworth voicing the funding credits?
how long did they use this ending?
Agreed. I would stick with the old Newshour music instead of the crappy new one.
Hungry why not have a taco from taco bell, fried chicken from KFC, doritos from Frito lay or pizza from pizza hut and Pepsi soda
If any PBS show would be sponsored by PepsiCo today, the endorsing of PepsiCo wouldn't include KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell because PepsiCo doesn't own those companies anymore.
Unrelated note, though, those restaurants do serve Pepsi as part of a permanent contract after Pepsico spun them off.
This was before I was born
Skip ahead to 0:34 to see the closing credits.
@6891man
For some shows, for some reason it even lasted into the early 2000s, if I recall correctly.
When did Ray Suarez become a part of "The News Hour"?
1999
@theogt821 I know, right? It's a classic. Same composer as Thundercats too, actually.
I would wait for the DA-DA-DUM
to time some sweet feet stomping for dramatic emphasis
You guys should try it!
Bernard Hoffer
The theme used to scare me. That, and the old cpb and viewers like you logo. :((
It gave me the creeps as a child. Now it's not as bad since I heard scarier music than this like the themes from Physco and Jaws.
It's not scary!
Different experiences for different people .
