DIY Book Nook: Pepper's Ghost Explained

- I'm starting a new book nook! I wasn't quite satisfied with the solution I used for my Haunted Mansion nook. It was simple and affordable but a little awkward to use and had a limited run-time. This solution costs a bit more but it can be left on for extended periods of time and is permanently mounted in the book nook for a more robust Pepper's Ghost illusion.
This video takes a quick look at the screen, video player, and a mockup of the overall geometry of the nook.

Recently I was playing a word association game (Blank Slate) with my family and the word was "pepper", and a few people wrote "ghost" and I replied "Oh that's a great word. Like that classic illusion Pepper's Ghost. I should have thought of that" And no one knew what I was referring to or how anyone would get that; they simply meant a ghost pepper. 😑
LOL! Ghost Pepper… Pepper’s Ghost… Pepper’s Ghost of a Ghost Pepper! It’s an old illusion but still really effective… now I’m hungry! Cheers and thanks for sharing.

It’s really handy! You can also use a brightly lit object instead of a video. It just needs to be lit more brightly than the surrounding area so it reflects. The dining room in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland uses this effect with animatronic characters. I’m excited to see how this plays out in the new nook.
