Good to see you back Rich covering another Axial product. You always do some of the best explanations on the builds. I know you’re usually about the blue, but the bronze looks real good.
Glad to be back - especially when the RC world gives us cool rigs to cover!
Thanks so much for this! Waiting on my Pre-order to arrive to get started on it. Glad you pointed out all the parts that would really slow me down since I don’t usually buy kits.
Hey Tony - glad to help out. 😃👍
What's up with the icy conspiracy buddy. You've been sick that must suck. I hope you get better. Now what is it going to be every Tuesday night. The show with Matt last week was really awesome. Picked up a couple stickers. Keep up the good work. I hope you feel better soon
It sure would have been nice to see a top view in the size comparison but I understand your time constraints. There is a point after midnight when finishing is all that matters.
Thanks for all the information and another great video. It's good to have you back.
It's amazing Axial caused all the controversy over one tiny plastic part.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it after you run it!
Me too! Electronics arrive today!
I had no idea you were producing videos again! Great build and really enjoy the video!
Thanks for stopping by and checking! Yeah, I've put out content lately, just not as often as I used to
Loved all the details you shared! Can't wait to build mine!! 🤘
RC Girl thanks Haley. Make sure and DL the revised owners manual. They’ve fixed much of what I covered. 😃👍
Thank you for the clear footage and details of the build. I look forward to building a Capra one day.
Glad to help! Happy RCing!
thank you for your effort and everything! this is awesome video. I am building the same car right now. All my issues are solved now after watching this video👍👍👍
Cool, glad to help! Happy RCing
Excellent tips, specially the dig servo bit
Glad to help out!
Thanks for the build vid. I like the blue methods for rims, but it depends on what paint scheme you go with.
I think the methods won....thanks for stopping by!
I have the blue methods too. Many others as well but that blue would look excellent
Nice! Yes, it turned out great!
Very informative, thanks for the first look. Would have been cool if you put a set of 1.9 wheels and tires on it for the comparison shots.
Thanks for stopping by. When I shot the video - I forgot I mentioned the comparison until late in the evening while editing. Went out and attempted to add some wheels/tires, but I’d have to switch out all my SLW’s. I was already spent....I finished up the edit and upload at 3:30am 😬
I'm fine with no tires, it's a darn good price for what you get. Thanks for all the info, very thoughtful!!
I can’t agree more. And, always glad to help!
Cant wait ...thanks for the tip on the dig servo I am going to need to order one asap … I don't like taping down my ESC so I hope the RPM cage will help to hold the ESC...Looks good in your Blue with the bronze wheels...The blue Method will be nice also...Thanks again great info...
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, their dog servo is a must for day one. Maybe down the line we can sort out better options
Great video. I would run the rc network blue wheels, and I have never run the factory kit tires or wheels for that manner. I order wheels and tires to go with each kit. Guess I'm used to 1/10th buggy racing.
Yep, ironically this build had many 1/10th scale racing traits - like turnbuckle style links.
Can't decide wich beadlock, both beautiful!!!
Thanks Marco! Yeah, it’s a tough one!
Starting build your tip to use Chap stick was great and got servo same day as delivery of kit...One thing o not over tighten ring of dig will not allow install of pin...
Back off the plastic loop - if you over tighten, it makes the pin hard to insert
Blue methods! Great overview as always!
Thanks Trent! Yes, the Blue Methods won....I painted the panels this weekend
Great review!! I am immensely pleased that Axial has made the Capra a kit. Tires not included does not effect me...most people have a brand and style they like to go with. The blue Vanquish rims LOL. Over all it looks to be another solid kit from Axial. Thank you for the insightful review.
It is pretty solid! besides the few manual mistakes and dig servo issue, this is the RC to have in 2019
@@TheRCNetwork I ordered one last night after watching your review LOL. I look forward to the build and have made notes on the issues you spoke of. Thank you again for a well done review.
Military Scale Workbench nice! Happy Building
You’re awesome dude keep it up 400!🤙🏽
I saw that last night when you commented! Thanks for the 400th 👍
Great well detailed build review Rich. Great to point out the manual errors, and needed components. Yes I wish it had hyrax or similar rock tires included, and for your beadlocks I'd choose the proline bronze. :)
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS always cool having you stop by! Overall a great build just a few hiccups, as expected from a first run buggy.
Thank you for making this as, I am waiting for the Capra to arrive at my LHS.
Yeah, I wanted to get some info out there. There’s been a ton of questions on FB and hopefully this video helps. Have fun on that build!
Did you go to school in Oregon? MBA? Sorry if not same name lol.
Ryan Boucher no, sorry. Went to school in SoCal
I want to school in Idaho.
looks great! Awesome video!
Thanks Buddy!
Commenting half way through... The links are beautiful!!
Yeah, best Axial links ever.
Excellent video. 👍
The battery tray is really not wide.
Really happy, it did not include tires. 😊 I prefer Pro-Line tires. 👍 Yvan
It's meant for shorty width lipos - which are gaining popularity.
Great video! Thank you so much!
Glad to help!
I run the same battery, it fits perfect with the tray ratcheted in a few notches. I didn't have to space it all the way out on mine...
Good to know! Thanks for stopping by!
I'm not sure about this kit. Great overview! Very comprehensive and well shot. Thanks!
Glad to help. My only main gripe is the dig servo issue
Great video! I think the machined gears and upgraded shocks were a good trade off for the tires.Like you i can't use those plastic wheels either.I like the bronze colored wheels.
Thanks jo jo. I didn find out later that the portal box gears are sintered gears (pot metal)
Not sue if your tired of hearing from me one other discovery was the idler gear to the slipper gear shows a shim being installed towards the trans side this left a misalignment of the idler to the spur ..I found placing the shim on the cover side corrected this misalignment issue...
Ah, good catch! Never tired of constructive comments!
The best review I have seen for a long time !! A like and a new subscriber! 👍 .. I loved the construction notes 👍 ... I was considering buying the rtr since I am in a zen phase .. 😬⌚🛠️ ... But in view of the fact that you have to disassemble half a car to change the engine, I think I'll buy the kit ... What I don't know is whether to leave the Dig without a servo, because in the GOM I have, I hardly ever use it😳 ... And seeing what the owners say about how hard the springs are, I plan to try the gmade transition ... Congratulations on the channel, good job 👏
Glad to help out! The dig is cool, but like you said, I rarely use it
Use the bronze proline rims. They look so much better
I hate it...blue won. I Painted the panels this weekend
Good video. I believe it should have come with tires, the DIG servo, and any other parts needed to complete the build. My local hobby shop only ordered the kits, and no other parts needed to complete the kit.
Very good point on that one - local hobby shops not being able to sell the entire job. Well hopefully you’ll get it all sorted out.
I really have missed you 👍🏻
Thanks Horton....always cool to see long time subscribers in the comments!
Depending on colour of your rig. I like the blue rims they kinda pop(stand out) a little more.👍nice rig so far.
I agree 😃
Great review; thanks! Love the shock caps with the bleeder hole, as assembling shocks is my very least fav operation. Any idea if these shock caps will retro fit to other aluminum Axial shocks?
Hey Boldr - yes, super easy to build these and get them right. I can’t tell you how many times I flipped the bladder in old axial shocks due to too much oil pressure.
Great vid. Thanks
Thanks Andrew! 😃👍
Nice job Rich! Maybe one day I'll meet you crawling out at cdm.
Thanks Rev! Yeah, I need to hit CDM - haven’t been there in a while
Just ordered this kit. I don't plan on using the dig and fully locking it out. Are you able to do this with the pieces included in the kit or do you need to get an appropriate sized spacer somewhere?
very interesting. to watch was possibly going to buy a 1.9 wraith but i may swith my mind and go capra
This ones more unique IMO
Great video 👍👍👍. Im looking to buy one. They look awesome. Does the kit version with optional 4WS?
Thanks! This version was the first version and just had regular front axle steering. I believe it can be converted easily...but there is a 4 wheel steer version available as well, but it might only be an RTR version
Sweet build nice work can’t wait to see complete. Might get this soon. I built out my Rock Rey and my TRX 4 which was fun but I’ve been wanting something like Bomber or Wraith just for crawling this looks better. What servo will you use for steering? I already have Mamba X ESC and motor combo for this. I hope 2400Kv sensored does the trick think it’s 3.2mm shaft.
You should be fine on the 2400kv (540 size, I hope) on 3s
the build is going good! i just needed a break! no power tools suck haha
Yeah, I used power on the cage. Was like 150 screws 😬
@@TheRCNetwork my wrist is sore after yesterday lol but finaly done im just waiting on electronics
Awesome job brother like Always 🙏👍🤙✌
Thanks Charlie for stopping by this Saturday morning!
@@TheRCNetwork Always brother
What a great looking model. Can this model be used for "rock racing" style? I live in a city so have more rough flat terrain to use. This is the best looking model I have seen.
Reminds me of the Twin Hammers it too came with Losi bits. I like the blue ones but I would get some bead locks on Amazon ($40) and they are just as nice and very good quality, but that's just me. so far looks nice. Hope the quality is better that the Wraith Spawn that I built (was a bit sloppy in the fitment area). God Bless Ya Dave
I agree on the wraith...especially if you ever ran brushless.
Excellent review.
I’ve just noticed you have fitted a light bar to your Traxxas trx4 to your scalerfab front bumper.
What light bar did you use and how did you fit it please? As I would like to get one for mine please.
It's the 1" Rigid Industries light bar from Vanquish - I just had ton drill 2 holes in the SF bumper top plate
I love bronze wheels!
Great video 👍
What size of battery can we put? How many teeth does the motor pinion have? Thank you very much
It takes a standard “shorty”pack, or as I listed the ProTek 3s shorty - that’s the largest possible. 14t pinion is the included stock pinion
Im asking myself if this Carpa would can just do rock racing and bashi g around like a wraith or a bomber?
It look pretty good 😍
I think it can....even better than the Wraith. The Wraith was quite fragile.
@@TheRCNetwork can't wait to seenyour runing video 🙂
Just got my kit on the back of the instruction it say updated 10 / 19 any chance they fixed the errors in my book thanks Joe...update watch your vid they fixed the errors cool beans...I like choosing my tires for the look of the rig I bought aluminum beadlock and some rcfwd 1.9 irok
Yeah, I'm sure they updated it....you can always check their website and check any up to the minute updates on their manual
You pointed out my biggest problem with the Axial Capra at 5:58. They do not provide the complete servo saver but make you buy the recommended servo. What I did is bought a Savox servo and then got a servo saver for it that I used. Kinda annoying that Axial did this and some people will be put off about it.
Yes, I completely agree. Later, many of us found out that the Spektrum servo that is recommended is an Axial rebranded servo from the Yeti Jr, and Axial has a parts tree that will somewhat solve this. Simply adding that parts tree into the box would let other servos work easy. Hopefully Horizon/Axial figures this out.
@@TheRCNetwork Looking online I found the parts tree at AMain Hobbies. The part number is AXI31009. But Amain has it on back order and on ebay it is part of the complete 2 speed transmission set. So the parts tree is available but at this moment its hard to get.
Take the blue wheels. They Look awesome.
They one....I painted the panels this weekend
I think more kits should come with out tires. Seems like everyone has there personal tire choice anyways and buys there specific tire right away. I also like the bronze rims
The only axial kit I ever ran the kit tires.......Yeti Kit. That’s it. I agree, do without tires, but include the dig servo?
The RCNetwork yes, should have included that. Until watching your video, I didn’t know you needed a specific servo. I already bought a micro JX. I’ll have to go pick up the spectrum one now.
I haven’t verified, but here’s the part that was mentioned on The Capra group on Facebook: www.axialracing.com/products/ax31009
Hey buddy. Any advice on rims that can be used with this build? Seems like diameter is smaller by a pinch so normal bead locks will have a bit of a play. I’m talking about a small piece of half axel between hex nut and thread itself. Try putting those that came with a kit and fit them on your trx for example. Please advise.
Most 1.9" rims (with SLW compatible hubs) will work...you just may need to adjust the SLW hub width to clear the portals. I was able to run 225's (which are the smallest) on mine with VP Method 105's
Thanks for your very thorough build review and especially the warning about SPMSSX107. Luckily I have a 3D printer so I can make this part to fit any servo I chose. Take that Horizon! And this is coming from a former Horizon products dealer, lol.
For the price, I think this should have come with tires. I'll bet leaving them out was a Horizon idea to milk more money out of people. I'm beginning to think the Traxxas TRX-4 sport kit is a much better value (US$50 cheaper and includes tires!). Heck, the TRX-4 chassis kit (includes tires and all of the electronics) is a much better value, even though it costs US$40 more than the Capra.
Yeah, I'm sure there was a some serious pricing talk about the Capra. Just from building this and comparing it to my TRX-4 - they're two totally different beasts
Did yours come with a spring for the dig servo saver, because i couldn't find mine or maybe it didn't have one..
Great video mate!!!! i had to use the plastic wheels because mine was for a product video ;(
Yep, no issues there. My only flub was the 12mm hex pin not being threaded.
im a method wheel man for sure but the bronze looks goods also but i would go with blue method wheels
They one....I painted the panels this weekend
I'm just up to to installing the dig servo and was looking all over for the bottom part. I wish I knew I needed to buy the spectrum servo to use it.
Someone sourced a $7 part from Axial that would make it work on other servos (the spline adapter). This was never mentioned anywhere....even in the manual, which references a Spektrum model number. Check the FB group - it was posted there
@@TheRCNetwork Thanks, I already ordered the spectrum servo. I just wish they made it more clear, I would have ordered the servo with the kit. Another thing is the shorty Lipo pack. I have 2 shorty packs but they are the kind with the banana plugs that connect to the top of the battery so they don't fit.
Also I left out the bottom screw for the pinion gear cover so I don't have to disassemble most of the capra to change a pinion gear... I hope anyway.
Yeah, I'm having flash backs of working on the Bomber/Rock rey already! I think once finding a good set up, taking the cage off won't be needed too often
@@TheRCNetwork The cage isn't too bad but that screw to the pinion cover is behind the suspension link mount. So the only way to get to it is to also remove the transmission.
You are right once you have a good setup it should be al set for a while.
Yes most definitely tires should be included, along with the dig servo.
I personally agree with you!
Appreciate you sir
Thanks buddy!
Awesome channel and cool video i also subscribed
Thanks RCSnapOn! Glad to have you aboard!
Anytime brotha thanks
Is that micro servo for the dig function waterproof? If not, HH is kinda shooting this rig down by making it all waterproof, except for the dig servo...that is proprietary designed to only fit the 1 spektrum servo available for it...
I couldn't find any specs that stated WP on the Spectrum SX107 servo....so, yeah. Since the release of the Capra, there have been other alternatives for micro servos and I even believe a mount for a full size servo.
I was into this until u showed your spawn at yhe end.. beautiful. I'll see if u have a video on that?, lol. . Is the spawn much of a crawler?
Yeah, the Spawn is a completely different beast! The Spawn was meant to go fast....but with the lockers it can crawl great
I'd go with the blue methods.
Thanks Ken, the methods are always a favorite.
Xr10 have tires?
Morning Rich,
I prefer to get my own tires.
The bronze wheels look nice, but the blue ones might match the blue in the included decals if you're going to use them. Sucks about the dig servo I think there's better ones out there.
Your Trx4 needs to be driven. Later
🤠🇺🇸☝️
Good eye on the decals...not sure of the decals will make it on my rig....I like to be different than box art....we will see
Bronze for sure, that is awesome looking, goes with the shock bodies kind of nice too.
The bronze appeal to me, too - but I'd never pay my own money for them, they are VERY pricey comparatively-speaking ($87.96 a PAIR, w/out hex adapters!) - even more than Vanquish...
If I choose to have full time 4wd with spacer, do I need to install a shifting servo?
Nope. The spacer keeps the arm all the way to the full time 4wd side.
Nice Rich
Thanks MTC - Always cool to see long time subs in the comments!
@@TheRCNetwork Appreciate cha brotha!
Question - on page 15 of the instructions it calls for installing a gear number AXI234007 to the steering servo gear. There are two versions of this part, one labeled 23 and the other 25. What’s the difference and which one do we use?
The 23 and 25 refer to the tooth spline of the servo - many servos use 25t, but some still use 23, like Spektrum (Horizon Hobbies/Axial's house brand) Check your servo manufacturer and see which one you need
@@TheRCNetwork Thanks very much. That makes sense. I really appreciate it!
Now I really might have to head to the LHS and pick one up! Go broonnnzzzee....
It’s worth it. Thanks for stopping by!
Cool:)
Wonder if a roc412HD will fit in there
Jeff Shawaga it won’t. Only 540 sized - like the Roc412
So the light bar leds are included? My box says that they’re not 🤷🏼♂️
The lighter including LED's are included. The cage does have "headlight" buckets and LED's are not included for that
Go with the blue ones i thank they look better
They one....I painted the panels this weekend
Do you think this would survive ripping around a U4 style course? Without a new Yeti around, it’d be sweet to see it as a go fast rig.
I think it can....but we will find out where the weak links are quick (as we always do in U4).
This isn’t designed as a U4 truck. I don’t think those axles will hold up.
Joshua Gregg we will see. Axial also put some seriously fast gear ratios in this....to where crawlers are having to put 1800-2100kv motors in it
The RCNetwork Josh said something very similar. It’s got a lot of wheel speed. It just doesn’t look like they’re quoted suited for the beating that U4 dishes out.
Joshua Gregg most people will use this for crawling....I have more U4 experience, so that’s the route I’m taking initially.
Where does the dig servo plug in on the receiver?
Any open port that's programmable with your 3 channel radio system
How did your transmission go together? My top shaft is not seating so the case won’t seal
MEDIEVAL POSSUM it took me a few to get everything seated in correctly. The manual was incorrect....put the top shaft through the outside of the case....not the inside like the manual shows
The RCNetwork thanks man. Helped na alot
Can fit the junfac rsd piggyback 100mm instead the normal shocks?
I'm sure they'll fit - shocks are usually pretty universal, but not sure you'd want to put longer shocks on it though
@@TheRCNetwork Thanks for answer .. are only 3mm hole to hole and with a super soft setup i think can be interessant
A new manual is now out fixing the errors and not clear sections
Warwick Campbell yep, I saw that. I’m glad they fixed it...especially for the newer hobbyists
I wish I bought the kit. I just bought a 4ws rtr and a quarter of the screws are stripped. Frustrating that when they assemble these things they strip so many screws. Last time I get an rtr.
Yeah, they likely power drove those things in.
Great video cheers! Also, I think you set the new world record for how many times you can say the word "Capra" in 17 mins! Capra word count = 37 Times HaHa!
I was trying for 50....
The axial xr10 did not come with tires as well.
That's going way back!😃
Nice video excellent job I don’t like the fact they show the tires and wheels but not in the kit. Normally add my own tires and wheels but kinda deceiving
Yeah, the standard has been to include tires with scaler/crawler kits in the past.....but I'm like you, I probably wouldn't have run the stockers
They were correct to not include tires on this one.
I'm glad it doesn't come with tires so I can choose my own. Kit tires usually suck anyway. As far as wheel Choice, you're probably going to paint the panels blue, so go with the blue Methods, although personally, I do like the bronze Wheels better.
Yeah, the bronze is speaking to me....thanks for watching!
Do you only build and show your cars? all are new never run
or please how do you clean them ?
When I started my channel, my goal was to help people that bought these RC's. Although I do run my cars, I keep them very clean and maintained....but as you can imagine, with so many RC's, it's hard to drive them all as if I only had one. I much more enjoy making videos that show someone how to do something vs. just how it drives
@@TheRCNetwork Thak you for your videos very helpfull also for answer
It doesn't need tires included, I would chose the blue. Since you like blue a lot.
Thanks PC - always cool to see you in the comments! Blue always wins for some reason.
Blue methods for sure
They one....I painted the panels this weekend
What size motor do you use? 550 /540
The Capra will only fit a 540 or smaller length motor
Use reverse rotation motor?
Gosh, totally lost track if I did or not...I had some issues calibrating the RX4, which was my fault 😬
Use the bronze wheels
My scx102 kit did not have rims or tires included.
You mean the raw builders kit?
@@TheRCNetwork Indeed.
The axial xr10 kit did not come with tires.
Dang, that goes way back!
I placed an order for the Capra and canceled it the next day. After seeing it was designed to use one specific servo for the DG and the servo comes with a special part so it will operate, No Thanks, they can keep it. I have RC's I bought in the 80's that still run (Remember the Grass Hopper?) If I buy an RC, it just doesn't work that it was designed so you absolutely have to obtain a specific part made by a servo company to keep it working. How long will it be before that servo is discontinued, then the owner is up the creek without a paddle.
Even if its not discontinued, what if is breaks? Would you need to buy a whole new servo just to get that little plastic part?
Someone sourced a $7 part from Axial that would make it work on other servos (the spline adapter). This was never mentioned anywhere....even in the manual, which references a Spektrum model number.
Someone sourced a $7 part from Axial that would make it work on other servos (the spline adapter). This was never mentioned anywhere....even in the manual, which references a Spektrum model number.
Even if Axial and Spektrum were to go out of business, it can be done...as we now have the ability to 3D-print that part in perpetuity!
