One important detail that hardly anyone ever speaks about, and I would love that reviewers would pay more attention to, is the quality of the DAC and ADC processors. Audient uses 32-bit-high-end converters on the iD line. This sets them apart from any of the competitors in the price range, setting the bar very high. Even the much more expensive UA Apollo series, which arguably plays in the upper league, uses lesser grade (although also very good since the last recent update across the line) AD/DA converters. The Audient iD line offers high-end specs and build for mid to upper mid-range price tags.

think the ID Series is all 24bit! So it is written on the homepage of audient!
@@boom_shak I wasn't referring to what bit depth the software allows the interfaces to record at. Indeed it is limited to 24 bits. Accordingly, the sample rate is limited to 96 kHz despite the converters allowing for 192 kHz. But what I was referring to is that the converters Audient uses are of superior quality than any of Audient's competitors at the same price range, which means Audient's iD line offers an AD/DA conversion quality of high-end interfaces that cost multiple times more.
One may argue this is irrelevant for the common user. I get that. But the common user will most likely stick to the even more affordable EVO line, which itself rivals some competitors in the upper league.
My point is, some people look up to more expensive interfaces in the US$ 2,000+ range because they want the best possible quality, while being oblivious to the fact that the iD line offers equivalent, if not better, quality for under US$ 700.
@@pedrofialhodejesus-artist i owned the ID14MKII myself some weeks ago! The ID´s DA Konversionen was pure horror to my ears. I went with the new SSL 12 and had both units side by side to test them. I will never go back to audient! Pre-colored sound even in DA-Conversion is a no go for me and the software/firmware was absolute not to work with. The SSL12 is crystal clear, no coloration in DA and i even liked the press much more than audients pre´s.
@@boom_shak I have done a AB of id14 mk1 and mk 2. , ID 14mk1 sounds way better than the DAC they chose for mk2. mk2 sounds very bad. i believe its the same dac they have in this id24. you said ssl 12 was better. is it the d2a signal flow design
or they have used some very good chip? any clues what dac chip is used in it. i am looking for a new card. cheers!
not true the ssl12 is 32 bit too on converters
NEVER EVER tell a company that their product is too cheap, because its never too cheap, but they can make you think so by overpricing all products and selling this one at a cheaper price. They are still all overpriced. I bet that it cost them like 70 bucks to make one of these. You dont believe me? Go to china, and buy all the parts needed to build your own iPhone. Many people did just that and there are videos of it.
It's not necessarily the manufacturer that is responsible for prices which such high multiples of the build price. All the levels of distribution and retailing add their own mark-ups.
Very true, plus a business has overheads that many people just don’t realise, let’s face it they are doing it to make a profit at the end of the day
Of course it's a lot cheaper to make, but who's making them, assembling , putting wires together, testing them, distributing them, designing them, paying employees to make them, exportation and etc, there's some overhead and businesses are all in business to Make money 💰

The $100 reduction is likely due to the lack of external power adapter, and also the additional headphone output. For me the price makes a lot of since considering the above mentioned items.
Yes and also there are many situations when you do need 3 or four mics in the home studio with good sounding pres, that's why I have the ID44, ADAT is good but more expensive at the end of the day and I don't need it.
I just purchased the Audient iD 24 and I've been trying to find out how to turn off direct monitoring (If that's what it is) I can hear the mic feed through my headphones and I don't have a DAW open and the iD mixer is closed. I have no clue how to turn this off
Like the temporary studio, still producing good content, cheers. It’s a shame they don’t have two headphone sockets.

The only thing I wish it had was a direct control knob for the monitor mix. Obviously you can solve this issue with the software, but a hardware knob would have been welcome.

I am planning on buying this. it looks like the perfect home studio interface. I can use my own preamps straight to the converters which is so amazing. I would pay 2-3 times more if they put in top of the line converters so I never had to think about upgrading converters again. alot of people only need 2 channels because nowadays if you need drums you can hire a studio guy remotely and record everything else with the 2 channels yourself. I am completely sold! how are the converters in this thing? premium quality or do i eventually have to upgrade?

IMO the more concerning issue is the lack of AC power on a mid-to-upper-end interface. It's long been known that some USB ports simply don't have enough "juice" to adequately power certain mics (dynamic or condenser via phantom), and even some audio interfaces. Audient's competitor Universal Audio reminds us of this in their instructions for the UA Volt, a USB-powered interface: "Some USB ports, such as those on underpowered hubs that don't meet USB 2.0 specifications, cannot supply adequate bus power".
Of course, none of this is a big deal for the user operating with an SM58 in the field. Or if the user is working out of his home and owns a dedicated phantom power box (but then again, how many casual hobbyists own one?). Oh well, I guess in the end if you need full phantom power, you can just spring for the higher end iD44 (with the AC power).
Since it replaces the iD22, the price of the iD24 could have been expected to be the same. i.e. $499.00, as Mike suggests. The 24 actually improves the specs over the 22: converters are better, particularly the DAC; meter is better; headphone and instrument jacks are, thankfully, on the front; and power is supplied by the USBc connector. Presumably the problem of the iD22 overheating has been resolved. The only feature dropped from the iD22 is the totally unnecessary phase switch. So, at $399.00 the iD24 is a great deal. It's what I would purchase if I didn't already have an iD22. Perhaps when it, inevitably, burns out I will replace it with the iD24.

IMHO, I think they are trying to target the costumer decision in comparison to other brands. Let's take as an example Motu áudio interfaces: Motu M4 $269,00 or Motu M6 $399,00.
My ID22 just burned out😢. Wondering if I should repair it or get the 24.
I remember buying an Alesis 1622 mixer for chump change thanks to the new fangled surface mount electronics and plastic body. Sure, it was disappointing when someone dropped an ashtray on the 3rd channel pan knob and buggered up my whole world, but I digress ... how amazing is modern technology?! I can barely keep up with this digital world of multimode super hidden functionality that I'd dismiss as too small to appreciate. $0.02 and thanks.

iD24 is undoubtedly the best interface in its class on the market currently. Ridiculously good, in fact. Does make me wonder though, who at Audient had their employment terminated for pushing this price point?
I thought your whole point about how they missed an opportunity was gonna be about how it only has 1 ADAT input instead of 2 like the ID44, yet instead it has 2 monitor outputs. That's the ID24 I'd like to see personally. I don't need 2 monitor outputs.. I prefer inputs :)
Wish it did have two ADAT inputs, but I certainly do need the two monitor outputs. My iD22 just died and I need a replacement.
This or SSL? Can't decide.
Trying to make this decision myself. SSL 12 has 2 more inputs, Audient has more character in the sound of the pres. What did you go with?

Can you not bypass the internal preamps on the ID14 MKII? I was under the impression that you could do so by simply turning down the volume on the interface and use the gain on the external pre.
it still goes through the pres, but it's just being perfectionist at that point probably wouldn't make a difference

Is the ID22 the black sheep of the family?
Two headphone outputs but only a single control? wth? So I just set the volume for the singer I have in and hope that level is not going to blast my ears off? This is like a great project studio interface except for that. Well that and desk real-estate.
frustated things for me now are iD24 or Sono lol

Comon audient. almost same thing as 14 or 22, no midi in/out, no switchable on/off button, no additional ac power to be able to power it up separately.

I don't think there is a quality control problem. The iD22 seems to have had a design issue, which resulted in overheating of a specific component.
