In one of the last pictures I have of me and my Grandma (a strict Catholic), I'm wearing a Dawkins "For Reason and Science" T-Shirt. I remember her asking me what it meant, and in my unrestrained pride, telling her about the atheist movement. She said nothing, but her face was shocked. Me and my family are back to the Church and I pray for her to see us.

    • @Bill_Garthright
      @Bill_Garthright 5 місяців тому

Yeah, my Grandma was a devout Catholic, too. Of course, that's because she was _raised_ Catholic. If she had any other reason for believing that stuff, I don't know what it might be.
How about you? You used to be an atheist, apparently. Did you find evidence that Catholic religious claims are actually _true?_ Or did you just find comfort in returning to your childhood beliefs?
I'm an atheist because I've seen no good evidence that a god is real, rather than just imaginary - _any_ god, let alone a particular one. And evidence is how we distinguish reality from delusion and wishful-thinking. So, if you've actually _got_ something distinguishable from wishful-thinking, I'd love to hear it.

The problem is that "Cultural Christians" only want the faith around as a means to a docile populace. Without true believe in the tenets of the faith, that docility will not remain. People will gravitate towards other worldviews and an inevitable balkanization of society will follow. It may be a slow process, but it will occur.

We need the Christianity that bears the image of God: the personal encounter with the Risen Christ and surrendering to it, otherwise it's a pretend Christianity.
Ask, seek, knock. Learn. Only participating in the life of the Church, inside or outside the temple, with Christ at the center, the Spirit will move mountains.

Thank you Bishop Barron for sharing the farm visit experience. It brought back my childhood memories of growing up on a farm without running water or electricity where I was by nature close to God. I feel sad that our young generation being addicted to electronics has lost that sense of closeness to God and resulted in what I believe is the loss of Christian values founded by the West particularly in early in the 15th century with missionaries being to Asia to convert that whole continent. We must restore America back to its founding ideals of God, family, and country. Harrison Butker's commencement speech should have been a welcoming one but instead of a storm of controversy.

As a former atheist, too many Christians believe in the revelation of belief and then behavior follows.
Opposite is often true. You develop the habits because you know it’s for the better. The reasoning follows after the behavior.

@uverpro3598 Correct me if I am wrong but isn't behavior enacted on the basis of faith. Let me try to express my reasoning with an analogy. Lets take a student teacher relationship. A child that is learning how to do basic addition for the first time is trusting that the teacher is correct. That child is not saying to the teacher "Could you prove that 2+2=4?". That child doesn't actually know that 2+2=4 but just assumes that that is the correct answer. And from that develops a pattern recognition for the process of addition. Even in this analogy I don't know that the child, at the time, would think that this is good for them. Again I am open to correction on this matter.

"Is Christianity useful" is a weird question to ask, namely because it misses the point of Christianity and religion more broadly yet simultaneously has brought many people into or back into the faith.
I guess the question could be reframed as "was Christ's sacrifice useful", and the only appropriate response to that question is "who cares."
And I stress that the seeming apathy of that response is not toward Christ Himself (quite on the contrary), but to usefulness itself. It's akin to asking if the world is "useful" or my family is "useful". If you're going to ask the question, follow it up with "why" - why is it useful, and if it's not useful, why has something with little-to-no utility persisted for so long and remains so central to how we operate.
    My two cents

The problem with defining existence upon culture is that culture is not the end result; neither is what culture seems to provide. God is the only Who defines what it means to exist, and God does so because God is the great I Am.
    God is Love.
There is a logic to love, and it is not meant for the purpose for which it is not defined.

Dawkins is making the same case for Christianity Benjamin Franklin made. He sees the good that comes from it on a societal/macro level and frames it in a utilitarian fashion. But while he sees the benefit of following Christ he doesn't want a relationship with Him. I'm sure he has his reasons. But the idea of a cultural Christian is a bit of a non-sequitur. He would be better served if he said he was a traditionalist or, God forbid, a conservative. He can't use those terms to describe himself though because he would be dropped from the invite list of most of the parties and gatherings he values above all else. The same for that woman who seems to see God as a construct to serve a political end rather than a spiritual one. It seems that she's attracted to the concept of a just and loving God but I didn't hear anything in there about a living God who is active in the world and desires a relationship with His children above all else. Terms and motives matter. Is it a first-step toward finding that relationship for wither of them? I dunno. I don't know their hearts.
All I know there is more to being a Christian than following a set of rules and being a good person in your own eyes. You have to do the hard things like forgiving your enemies and praying for those who persecute you. Christ said even the tax-collectors love those who love them in return. It's one thing to believe, and another thing to follow. Even the demons believe in the power of Christ.
I hope Dawkins and that woman find God and make their peace with Him. I hope that for myself as well. I'm such a work in progress that I'm probably the least qualified person to render a judgement on someone else's journey and the path they take. I don't know much but I do know if you knock the door will be opened. But you have to knock and you don't get a God on your terms, a higher power of your understanding as the new-age crowd likes to frame it. You get God, a Father who loves you. In fact He loves you so much He gives you the freedom to walk away from Him and His plan for your life. There is a whole lot more to it than a simple set of rules that are helpful in creating a better world. I wish them luck in their walk with God and I hope they find what it is they should be looking for.

Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

    Excellent video. Good information.
I like to cut to the chase:
    Jesus Christ is the Bridegroom.
This is a time of preparation.
The only way to prepare for that which you are preparing is to refer yourself to that which you are preparing for (which is kind of why, I think, Jesus said, I am the Alpha and the Omega).
What is the preparation all about?
This is a betrothal situation (see Jewish references and tradition, as well as the Gospel - it all lines up).
Jesus Christ is the True Vine.
Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I guess I could take some time trying to explain stuff. However, I think other people are probably better at that than I am.
However, I can say one thing, and this is coming from a place of love, and of care for the church, the beloved bride of Jesus Christ. And in this is just my opinion. When it comes down to arguing,bI do not want to argue. I want to love how God calls calls me to love (first commandment first, second commandment second). Most of the time, arguments are like right stuff in wrong boxes. Any organizing a home or moving from one place to another understand what that is like. Let us go through the process of putting order, the best we can, or own lives, in context of the commandments of Jesus Christ. Jesus loves us.

This is going to be interesting . It’s a good question to ponder . Cause it doesn’t seem so unless it’s a fad where most can be vane or virtue signal. Christianity is a serious choice of sacrifice and a walk with hardship blossoming into this divine reflective beauty of wisdom of experience and relationship with the Father. They all suffered very much till most of their deaths . Many don’t think about this. I been thinking about this myself for a while now . I got a glimpse of what they went through, and it’s terrifying, n beautiful, but I’m still learning. It’s a life long process. It’s masacistic , it’s self sacrifice , it’s taking on pain that is not yours , which in itself takes a special type of people. I think of Kevin bacon “ Ty sir may I have another “ 😳🤔😱👑🔥. I will say it was finished when He said . THANK GOD FOR THAT. Respect n honor to those who take that upon themselves . How can the beast battle the saints with that understanding . Pure Evil also takes a special type of person. Respect Father Baron. Respect n peace . Zz ……. Wonder why they all wanted peace in the end. Hope that makes sence 🗝️👑🦚🕊️🙏🙌🏼🫖

Yes. Christianity is useful to the west. It helps us to recognize what individual freedom means and what sort of government is needed to provide, nurture and protect it, especially to protect it from being eroded by other systems that may make similar claims, but operate very differently.
Gradually western society has become more and more secularized but people seem to forget that our whole judicial system and the principles upon which a democracy can function, have evolved due to the influence of Judaism, and Christian beliefs on the meaning of higher values like beauty, goodness, truth and ,,love,, and how, in relating these concepts to the sacred religious teachings, each of us may develope and grow in our individual capacity to live out these values in our civic lives, helping others to do likewise.
This is incredibly useful, plus, the churches are a support to individuals, family and the larger community.
We do not need a system like sharia law as an inducement, incentive or means of enforcing or Christian or Jewish morality.
It strikes me as a means of coersive control that is limiting to systems of governing that allow for of freedom of individual will, a fundamental freedom considered to be God-given, a gift of God, in whose image we are created.
Sharia law may be a very useful means of maintaining strict adherence to restricting certain practices or thoughts as being a means of asserting that this may be a moral choice, but is it a moral choice when people must submit to what is a policy decision, decreed by the Islamic State, that no one person has the freedom to oppose or not without serious reprisal or fear of personal suffering.
My point is not to discredit Islam, per se, but to point out the differences between our societies, their their origins and the options they offer or are designed to offer to individuals, because otherwise we may be labouring under the false impression that our deeper desires and values, will meet with the same respect by others, that we are willing to sacrifice for them.

    • @janeproctor5542
      @janeproctor5542 5 місяців тому +1

That's a bit like asking , what came first, the chicken or the egg, but it seems that the knowledge of God , that came into life, or call it, ,,life,, through the birth, life, and death of Jesus, was designed to impart provision to our understanding of the ,,Trinity,, as the central motif that conjoins us to a living appreciation of ourselves and others as ,,part and parcel,, of Gods creative purpose, in which we are all involved and may play a part.
As we become aware of the Trinity in its full capacity to alter us, we are made aware gradually, i.e., remade in ,,seeing,, and understanding God's being ,,in us,, versus being castaways on a shifting ocean of disjointed meaning and/or discernable purpose, outside of a knowledge or means, i.e., the Trinity, for relating us to God's purpose.
So, yes, I would say the Trinitarian is Biblical. The Bible is a story about us and about the development of our awareness of the meaning of God in the context of past lives lived and the bearing they still have on the present, especially for our good, and beyond, as our own lives play out depending, or not, on the knowledge of that connection of God to us,... whether it is acknowledged by us or not.

The problem with the word, religion is a matter of language - a language that supposes that policies and customs define the context for what God has declared and commanded. Taking Jesus Christ at His word is vital. That is priority number one. Vital means live on the Word of God. The fact is that Jesus Christ is in full Authority, and existence is defined by the command of Jesus Christ. The social context does matter, and that is why Jesus talked about that when He gave the second commandment.

Recall arriving at the conclussion of 'Intellectual Laziness' in Philosophy when discussing Dawkins and nothing learned since has changed the original opinion. His logic was/is faulty when he chooses not to allow questions to naturally rise upon being compelled by the beautiful. Suspect he's lying for argument's sake when disconnecting beauty from the good and the true. He may argue or debate well; but in the end he's simply lazy or too prideful to be taken seriously in matters of faith or lack. He's much as Jefferson with omitting miracles in The Holy Bible with how he divides aspects of the Divine without recognizing all must be accepted as a whole with one aspect overlapping the others.
Always find it fascinating to hear the dialogues in these segments...Such yummy bites to chew-on while discussing them with my horse after the rides when I curry her and we listen to CD's in these beautiful late afternoons. Thanks.
