- Una particular formación en el Show del Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar 2008 tuvo la banda de rock norteamericana JOURNEY con el vocalista Arnel Pineda.
Efectivamente, el cantante filipino fue incorporado a la banda JOURNEY, siendo su primera presentación oficial con JOURNEY el 21 de febrero del 2008 en el Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar en Chile con una transmisión televisiva en conjunto para 80 países y en vivo por señales locales, de cable y el afamado canal A&E. El filipino Arnel Pineda derrochó energía y logró cautivar a todo el público con su voz muy parecida a la de Steve Perry y su gran presencia escénica, rejuveneciendo a la banda y dejando en segundo plano su carácter de absoluto novato. I felt moved when I read Arnel Pineda's life-story. When his mom died they were broke. To ease his father's burden, Pineda quit school and started working. He spent about two years on the streets, sleeping wherever he could: in public parks, or on a narrow bench outside a friend's crowded house. He earned meager money by collecting glass bottles, newspapers, and scrap metal and selling them to recyclers. He would also go to the pier with his friends and take on odd jobs like cleaning scrap metal and docked ships. He didn't have much to eat. When Pineda was 15 years old (1982) he became the lead singer of the Filipino group Ijos, and later Amo. Didn't earn much but more than before, a rising curve started after he began singing in that band. In 1990 he and 5 other band members from Amo formed a new band called New Age. They worked in Hong Kong from 1991 to 2006. Back in Philippines in 2006 he formed a new band, called The Zoo. They became known on youTube performing cover songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, Kenny Loggins, Stryper and other popular acts from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In the summer of 2007 Neal Schon of Journey contacted Pineda, asking him to come to USA for an odition as the new lead singer for Journey. On December 5, 2007, Pineda was announced as the new lead singer of Journey and the rest is history, as they said. He really fought hard to get where he is today and of course, indeed he deserve it. it's not easy to fill Steve Perry's shoes, but if someone could do it, it was Pineda. It was very lucky for both Pineda and Journey that he became the new lead singer. It was a deal made in Heaven. amen.

I have been a fan of journey since my early thirties. I am a 78 year old woman now and I think they are better than ever. I an so glad the young people today are getting to hear their sound. Arnel brings something special to the band.

I love how the band smiles after the crowd agrees after the first chorus. Arnel reminding them of those Steve Perry concerts for the first time in a long time, and knowing they have someone to carry the torch respectfully.
Just for the record, it is already 2022..and Arnel Pineda is still doing incredibly well as a lead singer of Journey! What was more amazing was that Journey performed in New York Times Square on New Year's Eve as the prime performer in that iconic event with millions of people watching!- That was such a rocking amazing performance Hats off!

I have seen the ORIGINAL Journey with Steve P, in 1981 and several times after. I close my eyes and with Arnel, I hear Steve all over again. What a discovery of this kid, and his story is amazing. What a way to perpetuate the music of Steve and Journey.

He isn't doing a Steve Perry impression. This is just how Arnel sings. If Steve Perry had died then I would say he had been reincarnated as Arnel. His voice is absolutely amazing. And come on people... You can't tell me you don't love hearing these songs again in such a familiar way. It's like replacing (and I use that word loosely) Freddie Mercury with Adam Lambert. It's not a replacement or someone trying to sing just like him, but it is someone who gets the spirit of the music they are performing and are respecting the way it was intended to be sung and performed. I'm not saying that Arnel does not have a beautiful voice, because he does, but when one tries to sound like another, it's simply a cover. If you had been around in the Steve Perry era, you'd be able to hear and see the difference. With Perry, his voice carried so easily, and everyone after him, is just a lesser imitation. Everyone has their own voice and Arnel did a fantastic job doing that song. All the people trash talking, couldn't sing a single song from Journey's line of hits... don't trash people, unless you can do better. And once you can, I doubt you'd trash others, because it takes both talent and a solid state of mind to be able to accomplish what this man has done. Watch the Netflix documentary about Arnel's Journey... you may have a lot more respect for him after you watch it.

Digamos que son diferentes...es cierto que Steve posee una voz poderosa pero la sencillez y los tonos camaleónicos de Arnel son muy difíciles de encontrar en un cantante, es el tercer aire de Journey ya que con el segundo intento no les fue tan bien, a mi parecer fué lo mejor que le pudo suceder a la banda en su situación, un abrazo y saludos desde Monterrey, México.

@@roblox21242 he was sick and didn’t give the band a time table for his return despite the band giving him plenty of time. The band couldn’t wait for Steve Perry forever so they looked for another frontman and they had several before they found Pineda.
Nobody loved Journey and Open Arms as much as me back in the day! But Arnel Gives me chills! Thank God he's keeping journey going!! Beautiful human and voice! God knows what he's doing :)

Ahora ni hablar del flaiterio que invitan y si no son los weones reggaetoneros o bachateros, son esos romanticones cursis que los han invitado como mil veces, este año al menos se rajaron con Yusuf Cat Stevens, al menos algo bueno en esta cagá de festival jajajaja
igual deberian haber invertido mas en un mejor ingeniero en sonido en ese tiempo al menos o bien los canales invertir en que saliera mejor sonido, porque se escucha un eco horrible no me parece para nada reverb y ademas de eso la letra S al principio del tema se escuchaba como el culo y despues a medida que avanzo hicieron ajustes pero aun asi no sonaron como suena habitualmente journey. creo que es una falta de respeto para esa banda.

El cantante original es steve Perry’s , se salió d la banda por problemas d salud y porque el no se sentía d la banda 😉
La vos del filipino es netamente original, el fue incorporado al grupo con todas las cualidades y la aprovacion del grupo.
