Even if you know nothing about music theory, you should be able to hear the key changes in the song. You feel the effect of building and releasing tension musically. That's why - the key changes. The emotional effect precedes understanding the theory. It's a brilliant song, the way Dolly sang through those changes, and explains why it sound so good, even beyond the production values of its day.
how interesting Persia. thank you for explaining that. appreciated the song even more after more understanding the theory of the key changes and how that builds and releases tension. And could appreciate Dolly's ability even more listening to her making those key changes. Thanks Persia!
Yeah the 70s influence on all genres was definitely omnipresent. Listen to some of those chord inversions! In a country song! Though I guess this was more country-pop than strict pop, much like Glenn Campbell's Rhinestone Cowboy. Modulations, great string arrangement, man I miss the 70s...
@@jho2255 Actually the rising key changes are a long-utilized means to bring an almost imperceptible rise in energy and “interest to the ear” at least until the dawn of pop music. The Beatles did it for one. There is nothing pretentious about contributing a truthful, educational aspect of any art form. Your calling this out in your tone of condescension was anything but genuine, so I think you managed to take a glib, gratuitous troll quip into definitive evidence of one of two scenarios: one, you are an officious ass and pretentious yourself, or two, you’re so profoundly musically inept that when someone speaks with intelligence about music you cower in the corner and gnash your teeth at their superiority to you. Either way, you’re a drag. Sit down.
Don't like country music but love Dolly Parton . She paid to have , I can't remember how many people's houses destroyed in the Gatlinburg forest fires and she has an organization that will mail your child a book every month .... Free !

I love Dolly Parton! I love this song! This was her first crossover record that hit both the pop and country charts! This fantastic song was released in 1977, a year before I was born in 1978. Dolly Parton is a kind generous person! Dolly Parton is pretty with a great sense of humor! She laughs at herself! She is a very talented singer, songwriter, actress entertainer, and performer! She is very intelligent and has common sense! She also is a philanthropist! Every time I hear this song, I want to line dance! Thank you for posting and sharing this fun, upbeat song!
they were the only decade where happy mediums wasn't considered "undecided" too many extreme leftie-fluffy/ridey-whidies today. you could be a folk/country's or whatever and if you were good you would be a superstar!
The chord changes in the bridge are incredible, and each time you come out of it, you've gone up a semitone. It's like slipping in a key change without anyone noticing.

Probably one of the best, if not the best sing along songs ever. Well done, Dolly!
The lyric Looking better than a body has the right to is an iconic line!
Maat Atkins agreed
Maat Atkins inspired.
Donnie Iris also uses that line in Ah Leah.
Dolly did it first, of course.
❤❤❤
Marsha Jamerson yes, it is...
I'm not big into country music but this song is the exception.
The magic of the 70's...Great song great changes.
... and the memories come flooding back.
No kidding! I'm 5 years old again and listening to this album that Mom or Dad put on! 💞
Be more pretentious
how interesting Persia. thank you for explaining that. appreciated the song even more after more understanding the theory of the key changes and how that builds and releases tension. And could appreciate Dolly's ability even more listening to her making those key changes. Thanks Persia!
j ho LMAO right
Yeah the 70s influence on all genres was definitely omnipresent.
Free !
Thanks for liking and listening to my songs, Thanks for your love ♥️and moral support. I hope you have been well entertained over the years?
brilliant record from the best decade ever the 70 s

Me too. It was released a few days before my 9th birthday 🙂 I recall it playing all the time on the radio
I haven’t heard this song in a few decades! I was seven when this came out and hearing this song brings back so many memories of childhood. Crazy how hearing a song can do this.
Growing up in the toughest city in my neighborhood just trying to make thy way prosperous and here you come again comes on the radio and how in heavens name is a soul sister like me digging on Dolly??? My friend's thought I'd literally gone INSANE!!! I have the greatest love and adoration on my heart for Ms Dolly ever since that day way back in 1977 I was apprx 14 years of age can you guess my age now????
Hello!! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!...Stay safe
I will always love you Dolly!

I'm not much of a country music lover,but........Dolly Parton I can't resist.
Absolutely lovely
Hi Mary, how are you doing?
Hope you and your family are safe ?
I love Dolly Parton! I love this song! This was her first crossover record that hit both the pop and country charts! This fantastic song was released in 1977, a year before I was born in 1978. Dolly Parton is a kind generous person! Dolly Parton is pretty with a great sense of humor! She laughs at herself! She is a very talented singer, songwriter, actress entertainer, and performer! She is very intelligent and has common sense! She also is a philanthropist! Every time I hear this song, I want to line dance! Thank you for posting and sharing this fun, upbeat song!
Shes probably the reason why you were born 😂
Great number .... that left hand piano cord progression is so funky ! It’s got an rnb vibe ! Love it
Dolly Parton is so special in so many ways. One of my favorites from the past.
I actually think this is one the best songs ever written/performed. It does something to me every time I listen.❤❤❤
The 70s were just great. Unique.
Yes defo
they were the only decade where happy mediums wasn't considered "undecided" too many extreme leftie-fluffy/ridey-whidies today. you could be a folk/country's or whatever and if you were good you would be a superstar!
Dolly sounds like a literal angel. She acts like one to, just so sweet and such a kind heart ❤
One of the biggest Country Icons if not the biggest of all times.
Hello how are you doing..?
This song gets me in a good mood.
Suzu M i find it quite opposite
Makes me cry😢
I swear it is a song that releases brain endorphins. Dancing Queen definitely does.
Suzu M Only Country singer Iv seen was Martina Mcbride at a county fair
Born in 1969 and in 2023 I still love listening to this song ❤ Dolly 👌😎
Dolly's a musical genius! This song is a pop masterwork.
One of her BEST songs of her legacy! AMAZING beat
The chord changes in the bridge are incredible, and each time you come out of it, you've gone up a semitone. It's like slipping in a key change without anyone noticing.
Secret Agent Paul - Dolly Parton is brilliant with all of her songs!
@@kulmainer Yeah but Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote it. They've written some of the best music in our lifetime.
@@SecretAgentPaul exactly, Dolly has written so many great tunes but this on is hers :(
One*
It's so envigorating. Up into the stratosphere.
One of the sweetest voices I've ever heard and Im so glad I experiened Dolly's magic in the 70's. Seems like yesterday.
I wish I could put two billion thumbs up ! This kind of music MUST never die !
That's amazing. I know I will do that as well, still in love with the song. Love dolly.
Hello

am 12 too ....... heh heh heh
You have an old soul. Good for yu
I was 12 when it came out! You have a beautiful taste in music. It always reminds me of my mother. She loved this
Better than all of today's music, period.
@@jeffchew9677 My late mom was a big Dolly Parton fan too. I remember my family having this album on a cassette or 8 track tape (70s style music media!). We also often watched Dolly's variety show & enjoyed how every episode ended with her singing her lovely rendition of "I Will Always Love You" 🎶
RIP Cynthia. Thanks for this great song!
This song is beautiful and a masterpiece.
Such a simple, sweet song.
Yeah ☺️
Hello Soraya, how are you doing ?
Hope you and your family are safe ?
Hello nice meeting you here
the voice, the lyrics, the melody, what a hit maker,,,,,,,love ya
It's hard to underestimate how good her voice is. Autotune today makes us complacent. This is so good.
This song was released the month before I turned 21, and will forever remind me of a great winter weekend spent in Lake Tahoe with a couple of sweet ladies and my buddy. It played on the air for a long time after that, and remains one of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for the memories, Dolly; you are loved by millions!
She’s too good...how are you doing Jason?
