You just simply have to listen to the 1979 Jamaica Derby with that stretch duel which was won by Lucky Ole Son with Bimbo Rodriquez and you could see how great Chris Armond was..
I remember as a young boy when I was an apprentice jockey, that i was brought before the tribunal where Chris was sitting on the panel, he spoke with me about my infractions but was still adamant that I had to pay a fine of Jamaican $500.00.
My favourite Chris race calls was Trance coming from the sky under Everton Miller and the Lucky Ole Son derby 1979. Of all the racing commentators I'ved listened to over the years I rate Chris 2nd only to Ireland's Des Scahill. Chris' grandfather Altamont was the key figure behind the then Marlie Race Track in Old Harbour. RIP
Rated by Platts aka Platini, Wobbler, Red Carl, Junglist from Santana lane Black River and Rendon
Before I started going to the track listening to Chris commentary make you feel like you are there. The battles between fanna bimbo Gillespie and Bartley Chris would bring those battles to another level he brought joy to racing. His was commentator Supreme simply the best.
Chris was the best commentator across.all.nation simply the best rip.champ
KAZ HOSAY SUPER STAKES ONE OF BEST RACE CHRIS ARMOND CALL S,I,P, MR, ARMOND.
Chris Armond was the absolute best for all the reasons that George so eloquently described. I fell in love with the sport of kings from a very young age, maybe about 9 years old and Chris made me feel like I was at the track with his colorful descriptions. I could say I truly watched racing on the radio! His pre and post race commentary was second to none. Even after I migrated and tuned in to horse racing abroad, Chris never left my head. Because of the great Chris Armond, I can still visualize legendary icons of Jamaican racing, such as Legal Light, Royal Dad, Eclipse (Ellipse), Ricochet, Robin Good Fellow, Thunderbird and an endless list in some memorable events. Walk good Chris, and when you get to the other side, big up Wayne Sinclair, Jolly Najair, AL Gopie, Carlos Gillespie, Kenny Mattis and all the others...let them know how much joy they brought to us and how loved they were! Blessings 🙌.
A great man dem man mek love racing as young yute grow up Kingston 13
There's nothing like Chris voice yo bring back memories when I was a youth
The best way to remember and memorialize Chris Armond and his legacy would be replays of his excellent commentaries, however it is a crying shame that there is no published footage of this great commentators work from the racing fraternity/authorities
I'm literally crying 😭 he was simple Best
jah jah
Chris Armand and tom derkin is the two greatest horse racing commentator ever lived no apology
I remember as a young boy listening to his commentary stamp and go posted on the rail like a posted stamp.... rest in perfect harmony 🎤
When Chris call the Derby with Fanna Griffiths winning on Royal Dad, for me and Fanna little brothers, it felt like all of us were on Royal Dad's back with Fanna.
RIP THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.
George Chris was a great commentator but his protege Brian is the greatest of them all he's has more lyrics in commentary than any other commentator In the history of horseracing commentary
