      If somebody killed my daughter, I would want them to get help and rehabilitation so that they don't kill someone else ^^

      antibulletdodger101 You're not put in Bastøy if you killed someone, not at first.
      Mostly you'll spend years after years behind bars, proving yourself. Then when they find it right, they'll maybe transfer you to a lighter prison such as Bastøy.

      You don't teach someone compassion towards other humans and responsibility by treating them like an animal.
      Imagine living in a squalid concrete cell for hours and hours, months and months with little-to-no productive outlet. Would that make you angry at the world? It'd make me angry at the world.
      There is a reason Bastoy has a 13% recidivism rate.

      ***** And that is exactly why these people are able to change. You gotta remember that there are many people who have done terrible things that also have experienced deep traumatic events prior. Many of these probably never had the taste of a good life, punishing them further by making their life in prison a complete hell solves nothing.
      About 10-20% of released convicts in Norway are put back in prison, while in the US those rates are near to 70%. Basically, Norwegian prisons work more towards rehabilitation than punishment.

    I want to get arrested here! A life sentence on an island full of greenery, and endless outdoor activities, can't beat that. It's the "Alcatraz of Norway."

    • @T3n50r
      @T3n50r 5 років тому +7

      You won't serve your entire prison sentence there. It's also mostly reserved for the most brutal crimes committed, and inmates are serving their last part of their sentence there to get transitioned back into society. With a CV and what they've done on that island they can start applying for jobs straight away when they get out too. Norwegian citizens will always get help when they get out in terms of welfare, housing, mental health services (if needed) and job search.

    Let the Norwegians (from a NATO country) tell how they abducted (from Norway back to Ukraine) in handcuffs (without a trial and an interpreter) those disabled citizens of Ukraine (political scientists and human rights activists), who fought corruption in Ukraine, and in Norway organized free language courses for Russian speakers. /// We are talking about those kind Norwegians who forcibly separated the families of Ukrainians (kidnapping members of their families - fighters against corruption with disabilities, whom the family has not seen for 3 years, because the Norwegians prevent their reunification). /// Crimes in the NATO country against disabled Ukrainians (participants in anti-corruption pickets of Ukrainian human rights activists in Norway) were committed by those Norwegians who condemn the voluntary relocation of Ukrainians to the Russian Federation WITHOUT separating their families. /// Citizens of Ukraine filed collective applications with the ECHR and The Hague crime of Norwegians against Ukrainians.

      Well, sorry, I don't see any *justice* in this. They are criminals and live a life of luxury. Our pensioners don't even have lives as luxurious as this. If they opened up prisons like this here in the UK we'd have 100 times more criminals.

      The punishment, or vengeance if you really must have it, is the loss of freedom. The real justice for the victims and society is that those leaving there are much less likely to re-offend. Think about it...............

      People return to society and don't return to prison. It works for Norway. This is normal life for people in this country, it doesn't matter if it's "better than many". It's not a prison for the world after all.

    you dont get to this prison,after you are senteced,you got to behave,give negative urin tests o.s.v!Uk &USA also have open type jails,there are Only two jails like this in Norway.I have been there,and the punishment is lost of freedom!!!And the hole point is too rehabilitate inmates!!Not venganse shit like most the stupid comments in here!!!Other prisons in Norway,you sit 23 hours ALONE in a cell,Norway have been criticed by FN for the high use of isolation!!!Just becouse a cell looks fine,and you have a Tv,its Nice!! Its not!!Becouse after 2 year in isolation,youre a mess!! Thats why prisons like this are Great for the society too!!

      I think what you mean is the temporary isolation of Brejvik, the man who killed 77 people. However I'm not sure. But a bigger offender must be USA that put a man in solitary confinement for 43 years until he killed himself by strangling himself with his tied up clothes.

    • @thomasnorb4077
      @thomasnorb4077 7 років тому +9

      Why? There is no need, in Norway we take care of our people. I've never seen a homeless person. Poor people get generous welfare and assistance. Schools are free, hospitals are free (paid for by taxes). You must be from some poor country.

    • @solidpain9098
      @solidpain9098 4 роки тому +3

      In Norway beeing homeless is a choice. You really want to live that way, because you can get help everywhere and have a strong social system behind you. So there are no poor or homeless people in the classical sense like in the US.

      Mate, it is not a typical prison, it is a low security prison, for minor crimes. There are other types of prison in Norway too! Did you really think murderers, rapists and organised crime leaders would end up here? No, they are sent to high security prisons which are nothing like this one.
