I think for some songs the background singers were part of the same track as the instruments & therefore would be hard to remove, especially back in the 1980s.
sounds like we're stuck in a year 2013 playing vice city and watching the croods a lot because how forgets the song is came out in the late and early 80s

For all those who know and studied music theory as a only one year music student in college I believe this key is D flat major with dominant 9th's. Extremely fun but very complicated music writing.
Not a fan of this song by any means, but the arrangement of this track is SUBLIME. It constantly changes and doesn't stay doing the same thing long enough for the listener to get bored. Genius.
For the record, the song was inspired by the short story "The Sound-Sweep" by J.G. Ballard, published in the February 1960 issue of Science Fantasy. It tells a rather dystopian tale of a world where sound and music are basically outlawed.
Which is ironic considering there was a children's animated TV show back in the 1990s where musical instruments and a child fight back against a society that has outlawed music as well.
