@sirloin4372 this is produced in America, by American enthusiasts and journalists... why are you being a contrarian prick? If you don't like Motorweek or it's fans, go watch some car shows that have commenter that want to engage with someone who's unhappy with them and the content.
Savagegeese really, really tries, but he lacks the budget of Motorweek. Guy does make some awesome stuff though. Highly recommend his Lexus LFA video, coming in at almost an hour long.
im sure they still have a lot of good stuff. some they probly arent allowed to put up yet and some they probly think it isnt anything good but to us its gold
I will forever have the MotorWeek address seared into my memory after watching it every weekend with my dad growing up. Always loved the way the announcer said it. “MotorWeek, Owings Mills Maryland, 21117.”
Twice in this video I heard them state wrong statistics on a couple of cars. The first one I noticed was that they said the F40 was powered by a 3.0 liter twin turbo V8 when it actually has a 2.9 liter or 2936 cc’s. The second was when Lisa Barrow was talking about the upcoming Ferrari 348 which she said was going to have a 4.0 liter V8 which is wrong. It actually has a 3.4 liter V8 which is why it’s called the 348. Ferrari named a lot of their cars by using the engine size for the first two numbers and the cylinder count for the last number, 3.4 liters and 8 cylinders = 348. The car replaced by the 348 was named the same way 3.2 liter 8 cylinder gave you the 328. The 512 BBi was the same 5 liter 12 cylinders to give you the 512 BBi. Not all Ferrari’s were named using this formula but many were. Some used the displacement of a single cylinder like the 365 GTB/4 Daytona which had a cylinder displacement of 365 cc’s and 4 camshafts to get the 365 GTB/4. The last Ferrari to get it’s name based on it’s engine size and cylinder count was the Ferrari 458 Italia which has a 4.5 liter 8 cylinder engine. The Ferrari 488 that replaced the 458 has a smaller 3.9 liter twin turbo V8 with a single cylinder displacement of 488 cc’s which is how it got it’s name. Ferrari has traditionally used that formula for naming it’s 12 cylinder cars and used the engine size and cylinder count for it’s V8 and V6 cars like the Dino 246.
Wow, all hands on deck for this episode! 24:39 Thank goodness they came to their senses about the 1990 348, although, Doc Brown would have been proud, I think.
Forgot to mention that the first F40 units produced "first 20 if I'm not mistaken" were lighter, had over 650hps, the 0-100km / h was made in the 3.1s and top speed was over 370km / h or 230mp / h, this same setting was improved and used on the F40 LM a few years later!
Marcelo S I’ve never heard of any such thing I believe what your referring to is the fact a few years later a couple owners wanted a full on race spec so the factory made 19 not 20 f40lm. So no the first 20 were not lm cars they just only made 19-20 of them in 1990
This will be my go to sleep version, not that it is boring, on the contrary, I just love myself classic American TV, such as MotorTrend with John Davis‘ iconic voice, to have on to fall asleep , it just gives me a very special sense of comfort.
14:24 $260,000 for that F40 in 1988 is almost $600,000 in today's money. Compare that to the 812 Superfast, which is a street-friendly comfortable car with 789 hp and 0-60 in 2.9 sec, with a starting price of $339,025 in 2018. Talk about progress.
yea average salaries were $5.00 / hour for someone w a college degree..

I remember viewing this episode on the Public Television channel in Fresno Ca. Great memories I was at Fresno State. My first year in radio & television. Then off to Warner Bros.in Hollywood!
I love how the Italian guys on the bikes didn’t even flinch just told off the guy driving in Italian and kept on going same with whoever was driving that F 40 never Lifted just stayed in it😂😂😂
Wouldn't we ALL LOVE to have a red Ferrari under the tree this Christmas?!!!!!!!!! From 1988, here is a special MotorWeek episode completely dedicated to the marque that has been the object of almost every teenager's desires for generations.
Best "Working Vacation" ever, John. What was it like to drive an F40 at Maranello , and how hard was it to get used to wringing out a Plymouth Acclaim or Ford Festiva around the Baltimore 'burbs again?
Pat if people did this on their junk cars, cars that old relatives parked for years, there would be no need to have junkyards because every car would start, run and drive !
Hey I know it’s 1988 there, but I own a 2008 convertible Toyota and I’m going store it in my garage during the winter, should I take the same precautions as if it were a Ferrari? 😂😂
35 years later, you can buy a Jeep suv with a 3 liter inline 6 twin turbo with 22 more hp. 21:02 You are going to tell me to use something the maker of the car say not to. If Ferrari wanted oil in the upper cylinders. They would not have install valve seals to keep the oil out.
Imagine being an automotive journalist, and someone saying "you can take her up through some mountain roads" then saying "which car" and them saying "yeah the F40", if only it where easy to become an automotive journalist................. I guess I could try and buy a replica one someday, with the Lexus V8, but there's no way I think I would even come close, to the amount needed for a real F40 lol
The guy is scared because a 275 GTB "supposedly" is worth 400 grand,if he manages to get a time machine and travels to 2019 he'll have a heart attack hahahahaha
Were Ferrari’s more attainable and affordable back then? It’s almost like cheap used Ferrari’s all but disappeared after the 90’s JDM Acura NSX, Toyota Supra, and Nissan Skyline GT-R came around.
They were a status symbol back then too. Miami Vice (who used captured criminal furnishings, vehicles and clothes) were shown driving these as a symbol of how insanely profitable the cocaine trade was back in the 80s.
LMAO the 14:10 powerslide! We won't see anything like that on our screens these days; unplanned, unauthorized, unquestionably illegal, clearly demonstrative of accountability, and in real life, no less!

More people should be watching these retro reviews. Nothing beats it to this day.
This episode should be in the national archives. Total classic.
I support this message.
Uh no, why would we put Ferrari in our archives?! Italy can do that…

I couldn't have said it any better!!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
well he wasnt lying i still have my childhood f40 poster up in my garage over 25 years later
Post a picture of it if you can, I wonder if it's the same as mine. Which I have still in storage.
i cant find my little F40 model car, I saw one exactly like it in this filming at the factory I think it was. I lost it in between moves!!
👌😂👍same here! I have built models of that car that I still have!
I remember watching this episode as a little boy! I was still in elementary school (I think the 4th grade) and fell in love with cars that day!
Daimmm, how old are you now ? 40 ?
LifeStoriesTV yes.
This is the caliber of automotive journalism that many others have attempted to reach, and failed to accomplish!
Savagegeese really, really tries, but he lacks the budget of Motorweek. Guy does make some awesome stuff though. Highly recommend his Lexus LFA video, coming in at almost an hour long.
The idea that MotorWeek was still sitting on something this great in their archives is amazing to me!
im sure they still have a lot of good stuff. some they probly arent allowed to put up yet and some they probly think it isnt anything good but to us its gold
This aired on tv tardo they didn’t just sit on it till UA-cam…
I'm sure he knew that. Who went in your cornflakes?
This is a certified hell YEAH moment
my new favorite car video on youtube, takes me back to being a little kid and seeing this show!
80s was great era for Ferrari!
F40, Testarossa, GTS... ❤
yes and the 90s IMO as well. Now its all paddle shifter this and that,,, boring.
Yes, 80's because in 1990, Honda brought the NSX into the market and educated them on making proper sports/super cars.
No it wasn’t. Ferrari was shown to be the garbage it is. Beaten by Buicks in the 80’s and a gmc syclone/typhoon in the 90’s…
@@sirloin4372 maybe you're right. They may not have been great quality cars but I like the models from the 80s.

Hats off to the mate chucking that 40 sideways through the bends like what we all want to see. Even the bikers wanted to see it, posthumously perhaps.
Haha YES
Not surprised that I didn't see Morris Frye's 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. That SOB never takes it anywhere.
He just rubs it down with a diaper.
14:10 Very aggressive driving and very lucky bicyclists!
Having seen Testarossa’s several times including being behind one in traffic you notice how very wide the car is compared to how tall it is.
thumbs up before even starting the video

One of my favorite episodes. Watched it on TV when I was a child.
Probably one of my favorite episodes, I remember watching this when I was a kid.
Beautiful...Love that this is a full episode and takes me back to my childhood watching PBS on a Saturday
Wow, all hands on deck for this episode! 24:39 Thank goodness they came to their senses about the 1990 348, although, Doc Brown would have been proud, I think.
Sat in a testarossa with straight pipes and rev up the engine a few times. It was something else.

I Love Motor Week I watched this one 31 years ago memories
OMG...Motorweek, you saved this video for WAAAAY too long!!!
What a beautiful years ...
This would’ve been great to be released on Christmas Eve but thank you this is great!
Hard to believe that Ferrari was about 40 years old when this video was made. Now this video is almost 40 years old.
The F40 is hands down the best Ferrari ever made. It’s raw, powerful and style is perfect for the era. Love it
This will be my go to sleep version, not that it is boring, on the contrary, I just love myself classic American TV, such as MotorTrend with John Davis‘ iconic voice, to have on to fall asleep , it just gives me a very special sense of comfort.

That was a fun trip down memory lane. The F40 is still my all-time favorite Ferrari model.
14:12, whoops!
In Italy getting hit by an F40 while cycling would probably be considered an honor. lol
Burt Sampson true! I imagine the cyclist laying on the pavement apologizing profusely while asking if the Ferrari is Ok!
Dangerous mountain driving as much as love seeing a F40 sideways.

omg ,when the driver almost kills that cyclist at 14:13. wow, they played these tests drives fast and loose in the 80s.
Some wise man once said - hand build mean that the door will fall off.

1. Testerossa
2. GTO
3. F-40
1. F40
