I’m trying you create a study schedule for next year as I head into year 11, however I’m finding it difficult to distribute my time for each subject so that I can achieve the best grades possible for every subject? Do you have any tips or recommendations I should consider? For example, study three subjects one day then study the other three on the next day? I’m thinking of this however I have some subjects that require more attention and some subjects that may require less. Thanks for your time and help.

For context these are my subjects which are ordered in terms of priority.
      #1 - Biology Unit 3/4
      #2 - English Unit 1/2
      #3 - Chemistry Unit 1/2
      #4 - Methods Unit 1/2
      #5 - Physical Education Unit 1/2
      #6 - General Maths 1/2

      @@absul940 hi absul,
I'll likely make a video on preparing for multiple subjects. At a glance it seems that biology may be a bit more important than the others, but it's also important to keep in mind what stage you are at for each of those subjects.
For me personally, apart from the holiday homework, I didn't do any additional work for my 1/2 subjects because my results in Year 10 were fine. I'd encourage you to reflect on your subjects, identify the ones you want to improve in and then look at what areas you want to improve on. Then, just work on those.
It's much more important to have had achieved a new level of knowledge e.g. I feel more comfortable with analysing language or I feel more comfortable with mole calculations rather than using time as as measure of work.
I also didn't like having rigid rules such as three subjects today then three subjects tomorrow and preferred instead to have tasks I wanted to get done e.g. have a look at the study design or have a read of the first couple chapters for next year. Strict structure works for some people so go for it if you like that.

What would you recommend I do throughout the holidays as Im heading into Year 11 whilst undertaking a 3/4 subject which is biology? Apart from completing the mandatory holiday homework, what should I do to set myself up for the year in order to achieve the highest marks?

i'd get a headstart on some of the content by simply reading ahead in the textbook, watching edrolo videos if your school has that, or even just watching youtube videos regarding your upcoming topics.

@@robert19 Thanks so much for the advice. I greatly appreciate your time to reply to my comment. And yeah, I'll definitely take into account everything you said.

Hey absul, a big message that people overlook is that ‘if you’re on-top of all the work up until this moment’ then you’re very well prepared already.
People want to study ahead and all that but the real goal is to have consolidated all your past knowledge.
I’m not sure how much 1/2 overlaps with 3/4 but make sure you’re confident with the topics that do. If the holiday hw is useful then do it well and learn what’s covered there.
Only then should you really start looking forwards, check out the topics for next year and read up on them a bit.

@@DarrenTan21 Thank you so much for the advice.
Another question I had is how can I practice completing exam questions/test throughout the year instead of cramming it all within1-2 months before the actual exam despite not finishing all the content? I want complete practice exams during term 1 and onwards however during the early times of the year, I won't be able to answer every question as I haven't learnt all the content yet. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

@@absul940 Hi Absul, I was in a similar situation, as I too completed 3/4 bio this year. I will tell you what I did below:
During the summer holidays I was only focused on learning and becoming confident with biology content. I aimed to at least learn and memorise half of Unit 3 biology by the end of the holidays, this is your only 3/4 so it should be doable. I would then spoon feed myself questions throughout the whole year on topics I was learning. i would get exam questions related to a specific topic and answer them. I would them harshly mark myself against the examiners report and acted on my mistakes. You by no means need to be completing whole practice exams until 2 month pre-examination, as by spoon feeding yourself questions throughout the year, you build strong foundation on how to answer questions confidently and won't be forced to cram (I only briefly revised content during this period and was solely focused on completing exams). I also highly recommend staying at least 1 topic ahead of your teacher at all times, for me I only really relied on my teacher for any niggling questions I had about the content or to fill gaps in my knowledge (this further strengthens that foundation you are building). This personally worked for me, as I felt confident doing that biology exam, hope it works for you!

    Hey Darren great vid😊
Im heading into Chinese sl 3/4 next yr in yr11. I currently have around 30 questions prepared for both my gc and ds. My essay writing skill is also at a proficient level. Do u have any advice on on what and how I should study in the holidays? Also what do u think is the best way to memorise my gc and ds? Tysm😅

    • @DarrenTan21
      @DarrenTan21  11 місяців тому +2

Hey asleep, it's important to reflect on your current skills and how that matches your goals. i.e. is the writing standard you have now the same standard you want to have in your assessments? What about reading comprehension? Or listening? Then first work at the ones you're not as comfortable with.
In my opinion, the best way to memorise your orals is to just practise them out loud. You have to practise without the script in front of you. I practised the answers myself -> had parents ask me the questions -> had mocks later in the year. For some questions, keeping in mind the rough structure of what your answer looks like e.g. 'what type of person am I' talked about family -> school -> personal qualities -> hobbies can help, but I remember detailed study being pretty rough.
