One of my pet hates is when people renovate old houses and keep the floors with all the horrid gaps in them. I always think how cold and drafty they must be. Absolutely love the time and effort you put into upgrading that floor it looks truly amazing.
I'm quite amazed at the patience you exhibited during this part of the project. Ingenious and well worth it and most importantly, done with love for your lovely girls.
Last time I was around your channel you were down in the dumps feeling that this was the worst time in your life regarding making an income. Well I watched your workshop bench go in and now work on the upstairs bedrooms and I am sure this investment in time and energy will be worth it because your place will be worth a ton of money and you will own it clear title. It is really shaping up. Good job.
Oh my goodness Bruce! Those floors are absolutely beautiful! One day your girls are going to be reminiscing and they will remember the love you put into everything you do for your precious family! Merry Christmas to you all - and a special hello to Anne with her precious heart and smile!
Wow the floors are looking amazing! Who would of thought they’d have come up so well , can’t wait to see them finished and oiled , have a fabulous Christmas 😊
The girls are so lucky to have you Bruce the love and dedication you put into the floor is amazing, its beautiful well done and happy new year to you Annie and the girls 🙂🙂🙂
Hi Bruce, for all those little gaps still remaining, if you mix some sawdust with the wood glue you can use that mix to fill in these small gaps. Hope you Annie & the girls have a lovely holiday season
Fabulous work bruce very tiring and back-breaking work but it is so worth it in years to come your girls will look back at these videos and be so proud of all the hard work you put into making a beautiful home for them and done with so much love i hope you all had a happy and peaceful Christmas and all the best for 2024 .
I'm quite amazed at the patience you exhibited during this part of the project. Ingenious and well worth it and most importantly, done with love for your lovely girls.
Happy Holidays Bruce and family! 🎄🎄🎄 As always, Bruce, your work is beautiful! These projects are done with painstaking precision! Very much admire tenacity, problem solving, and ingenuity! All the BEST in the new year to come!
so impressed with the work you´re putting in there. I understand it must be frustrating to have to stop now, it's obvious you were willing to put the work in to get it finished. Looks great so far, though - and you definitely earned a break! See you next year.
Your tool box and nail's set you on this road of renovateing your family home. I asked my Mam at 15 year's of age could I have a sewing machine, I would have sewed a lot by hand and I used one in Secondary school. She bought me a second hand one from a sewing machine shop and that machine was used and used so much. I am forever grateful to my Mam as you are to your Dad. You are all doing amazing work. Have a good rest this Christmas.. Happy Christmas to you all and Happy New Year 2024 🥳🎉🎊🥳🎅🤶🎄 the girl's will be over the moon in the new year with their new bedroom's well done guy's 👏👏👏👍😉🇮🇪☘️Eire
Well done Bruce. Good idea to glue just one side. And btw 3 cheers for that cordless multi tool. There's a stand up comedian from Co.Monaghan who would get great mileage out of that whole job.. 'Ayy..that was some craic ye had there now me boy'... ;-)
To say that looks like painstaking work is an understatement. Well done on sticking with it!! Bit late now, but could you MacGyver some sort of extension handle for the belt sander so you could use it while standing instead of on your knees?
Great job Bruce a lot of knee and back breaking work very well done. Wishing you all a brilliant Christmas and hopefully some down time between the chores and some nice food. Enjoy
Hi Bruce, I’ve done, what your doing, in the past and had to use a nail punch on all of nails before I could sand the floorboards down, because sandpaper on the sander kept ripping, good luck. A very merry Christmas and a happy healthy New Year to you and your family 👍
Love your video's ❤. I thought you would need the gaps for expansion. I would have lifted to floor boards and set them closer together and then used screws but a nice job
Hindsight I should have lifted and refitted the floorboards but I made that impossible when I skipped ahead with the other jobs. In my mind they will be at max expansion at this time of year and more likely to shrink as we head towards spring and summer but I guess I’ll find out soon enou
After we had reclaimed floor boards down we put felt on the bottom of any heavy furniture so when it was moved it didn't scratch the new floor. Just an idea.
Well, Merry (Happy) Christmas, and enjoy your forced-time off with your family. It does look bloody fantastic. The grains look so beautiful; would staining it be necessary? I could see Father Christmas, Saint Patrick, Merlin or Dumbledore The Wizards in the floorboard depending on the season. It enhances the beauty of mystique of Ireland when one has an imagination.
@@OffGridBruce it looks ace Bruce, you should be proud! Maybe you can come help me do mine up in rural Sligo. Thinking of started a UA-cam channel to document our off grid journey too! 😄
Hi. Amazing job. What’s the name of the tool you used to saw the excess slivers off? I was planning on using an electric plane but yours looks way more sensible!
Hi Bruce Are you sure in what you done to the flooring as there will be some expansion in the year when the weather changes ? Great video merry Xmas to yourself and your family 🎉
Hi, I’d say that the expansion would be at max this time of year. More likely to have shrinkage during the summer. The floor should be well acclimatised now. I guess I’ll find out soon enough :)
I had a lot of big gaps so it was to make sweeping the floor easier stood bits dripping through the foot onto the ceiling downstairs and also make it look a lot nicer. Now the floors are finished they look amazing. If you haven’t already watch the next vid and you can see hire they turned out
Just think your girls can go to bed saying to themselves “ my dad built this for me “ ! Keep” cracking on “ . Just finished a house remodel mostly kitchen finished in 52 days the last bit on Christmas Eve ,,hahaha !
Sorry to put a downer on what you have done. But you will have problems if you need to get to pipes or electrical cables using nails and sealing everywhere it looks good stuff but not able to to get to pipes and cables best of luck with that .l think you've created a massive maintenance issue. 🤔 why didn't you use screws.?
It’s open underneath so no probs with access. The nails are just aesthetics screws would have looked a bit strange in my opinion. I don’t have any plumbing to worry about upstairs
Those floors are going to look amazing when they are completed. Nothing better than old wood floors.
Can’t wait for them to be done
One of my pet hates is when people renovate old houses and keep the floors with all the horrid gaps in them. I always think how cold and drafty they must be. Absolutely love the time and effort you put into upgrading that floor it looks truly amazing.
Thanks very much

I have never thought of this for gaps. How wonderful even though I know it took lots of work. Amazing!
Worth it now

Merry Christmas
The floor looks fantastic Bruce, 👏👏
Thanks Keith
Happy Christmas to all. I just hope in the summer when the floor expands it does not top!!
Merry Christmas 🎄 I’d say they will shrink in the summer if anything
Beautiful…
Thank you 😊
To say that looks like painstaking work is an understatement. Well done on sticking with it!!
Bit late now, but could you MacGyver some sort of extension handle for the belt sander so you could use it while standing instead of on your knees?
I did contemplate that. I am going to hire a big sander to finish the job in the new year
The floors look amazing Bruce!! Hard work for sure but the girls are going to love their rooms 🎉🎉🎉
Merry Christmas 🎄
We are enjoying the space this Christmas Eve though it’s not finished
What a mind numbing job that was! Well done Bruce. Happy Christmas from Alaska. Enjoy your time off from the floor.
Thanks, you too!
Great job Bruce a lot of knee and back breaking work very well done. Wishing you all a brilliant Christmas and hopefully some down time between the chores and some nice food. Enjoy
Thanks Gary merry Christmas
Great job!! We were not as brave as yourself, we used rope and covered with wood glue/filler.
I contemplated that option too. I’d say that way was a lot quicker? It took me ages to it this way
@@OffGridBruce yes definitively but yours looks nicer.
Thanks for the videos and a merry xmas to you all.🎄🎄🎄🎄
Merry Christmas David
The floor looks superb. Happy Christmas to you all and look forward to seeing the progress in 2024. Enjoy the festivities 😊

Going to try and be more on the vlogs in the new year :)

Wow, you have done an amazing job Bruce, hope your girls love it? I see your wife dose 😅, merry Christmas to all of you ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎄🎄🎄🎄🎁🎁🎁🎁⚘️⚘️⚘️⚘️

Great Job! I have seen some use string for the same job. Have a great Christmas!
I had seen that too. I did contemplate that idea
Nice job 👍
Thanks 👍
After we had reclaimed floor boards down we put felt on the bottom of any heavy furniture so when it was moved it didn't scratch the new floor. Just an idea.
Definitely going to do that
Starting to look great, awesome effort!
Thanks! :)
In years to come Betsy will still be telling family and friends “look! I put that piece in the floor!”.
The floors look absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks. It was a lot of work but worth it
Good job on the boards, they look very smart. Happy Christmas to you and the gang x
Thanks Anthony
Well, Merry (Happy) Christmas, and enjoy your forced-time off with your family. It does look bloody fantastic. The grains look so beautiful; would staining it be necessary? I could see Father Christmas, Saint Patrick, Merlin or Dumbledore The Wizards in the floorboard depending on the season. It enhances the beauty of mystique of Ireland when one has an imagination.
It’s a fairy floor :) I’m going to oil the floor to protect it against spillages etc
Caulk for yacht decks might’ve been a good choice as it’s flexible and can be sanded 🤔
It would have done the job but I think this looks nice although a lot of work
@@OffGridBruce it looks ace Bruce, you should be proud! Maybe you can come help me do mine up in rural Sligo. Thinking of started a UA-cam channel to document our off grid journey too! 😄
Haha I have enough work here at the moment:)
Have a productive new year! Are you taking a week off at the end of the year? I've gotta do something out there every day, can't help it :D
I can never sit still for too long
Just asking why you didn't use floor board clamps when laying the original floor???
I didn’t lay the floor it was already down. Hindsight I should have lifted the floor and relayed it before doing anything else but you live and learn
we filled ours with sawdust mixed with wood glue, applied with a putty knife.
Good idea. Some of my gaps were huge
Hi. Amazing job. What’s the name of the tool you used to saw the excess slivers off? I was planning on using an electric plane but yours looks way more sensible!
It’s a multi tool. Very handy
@@OffGridBruce I’ve ordered one. Hopefully will speed things up.
Keep a couple of spare blades too
Hi Bruce
Are you sure in what you done to the flooring as there will be some expansion in the year when the weather changes ?
Great video merry Xmas to yourself and your family 🎉
It's OK if you leave expansion room around the perimeter under the baseboards.
Hi, I’d say that the expansion would be at max this time of year. More likely to have shrinkage during the summer. The floor should be well acclimatised now. I guess I’ll find out soon enough :)
Happy Christmas to you all buddy
Bruce what's the name of the machine you shave the excess pine off with. Happy and peaceful Christmas to you and the girls.
It’s an oscillating multi tool. Very handy bit of kit
What's the purpose of filling in the gaps?
I had a lot of big gaps so it was to make sweeping the floor easier stood bits dripping through the foot onto the ceiling downstairs and also make it look a lot nicer. Now the floors are finished they look amazing. If you haven’t already watch the next vid and you can see hire they turned out
Cool thank you, it looks great! I wondered if there were benefits for draughts etc. too.@@OffGridBruce
Yes I’d say it would help with that too but not many draughts from downstairs.
💖💖
