My father in law was from Reading. Joined the Navy on 12/8/41 by early 1942 was doing convoy duty in the North Atlantic as a torpedo man in the destroyer escort fleet. Made 37 trips through the Panama Canal seeing Naval combat in both the Atlantic & Pacific theaters. To paraphrase Major Dick Winters I cherish the memory of hearing his stories first hand. I never asked him to talk just waited and hoped he would one day, when he realized that I am a Navy vet is when he started talking. When he did the stories were absolutely amazing and I will remember them for the rest of my life as they made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, we miss you Brownie. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!
