    Good on Dan Suh for having a go. Easy to criticise him but he’s had a great experience here. Good luck to him. Anyone can dig someone out from behind a keyboard, but he’s put his ego to one side and done something he will always remember.

    Ronnie and Steve did such a good job playing pool in the early 2000’s in the Mosconi cup. I always thought any pro snooker player could hold their own against a pro pool player. I wonder what’s changed. I mean Jack isn’t Ronnie but he’s no slouch. Even Judd struggled a couple years ago in the US open.

  • @theodorehui
    @theodorehui Рік тому +11

    just my 2 cents: i think Dan didn't expect the balls to squirt extra on the new cloth, (actually both players didnt but Jack was able to adjust), like when you are so used to putting side spin on each shot on a regular cloth for a new cloth the squirt would make you miss on the thick side every time and thats exactly what happened. I only learnt this becos that happened to me when the pool hall I used to go to changed new cloths and i missed all my shots that night but 2 weeks later it became normal again. Like when the cloth is a bit worn out it would have more friction and hence preventing it from squirting too much

    • @ktosdad

    It was very apparent to me that Jack struggled with the cut-induced throw of pool balls. Just about every routine cut shot he missed (and even some of his makes) was on the full side. Pool balls are heavier than Snooker balls, so the cue ball will throw the object ball more offline. And of course, there are points on the pockets (instead of rounded edges on Snooker tables), which he hit a couple of times. I have no doubts he aimed just as he would in Snooker, but simply didn't understand the physics of pool and how the pockets are different. A little unfortunate because I'm sure there will be some pool fans on here saying he sucks, when in fact he's one of the best shot makers in the world for any cue sport. Hopefully, it also shows Snooker-only fans that pool is not the same game and you can't just come onto a pool table and expect to be great.

    You can’t just enter a pool tournament with zero practice, not play with your own cue, and expect to do anything. Jack, and every other professional snooker player, have all the physical tools necessary to play pool at a high level (not the highest level, but very good), but you have to give yourself time to acclimate. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why these snooker players aren’t at least using their snooker cues. They’re already intimately familiar with them, and you’re not going to find a pool cue with less squirt than a snooker cue.

      @@fallios You definitely can. A friend of mine plays pool and snooker. Although he mostly plays pool with his Parris pool cue (11mm tip), he also plays pool with his snooker cue (10mm tip, maybe smaller). Before he got his pool cue, he always played both games with his snooker cue.

      I am guessing here that perhaps there are a high number of tables in play at the same time and only a low number of referees, so he/they get a call to rack the balls for several tables as and when needed and so cannot stay at any one table to referee.

    Scrappy match. I don't know if it was nerves, the speed of the table, something else but it seemed that Dan Suh was not playing up to standard at the start. Maybe too much banter at the beginning! Also in the first rack, it was decent that Dan declared his no-rail foul, but he didn't have to (this is a competition), and Dan was probably kicking himself considering the score after the first 8 frames.
