Let me put this into perspective for the new fans out there, in the original CoD 4 on the last mission you get pinned down on a highway on the last level where Captain price slide you (playing as Soap) his pistol to kill Zakhaev. In MW2 you acutely infiltrate the gulag as TF141 to get prisoner 627 which is Price. It was so symbolic. (My opinion) In this game he just gets shot in the head…. Bullshit. They could’ve had Soap slide him the pistol when Markarov took him down the first time before he shot him. we're never getting a good or iconic campaign ever again, cod has just become a cash grab i mean what the fuck were we expecting they made this game in a year ofc it will be shit
I disagree. Having Soap die plainly is what makes his death so incredible. Heroes in media die a heroic death all the time. Profound last words being choked up through a hole in their chest, as they take their last breath a single tear is shed from their eyes as they close forever. A cliche that’s happened a million times over and will happen a million more. Here, Soap attempts to stab Makarov, gets overpowered and ultimately shot. His last parting words for those to avenge him were “cut the red wire at the same time”. To me, that’s hardcore as fuck. No music, no time to grieve, get Makarov, disarm the bomb, save lives. That’s war.
They kill Soap in an incredibly anticlimatic fashion with barely any emotion even though Soap was one of the three most popular characters from the OG trilogy alongside Price and Ghost and being the second most important character in the OG trilogy after Price. They bring back Graves with the cop out excuse of saying he wasn't in the tank that Soap blew up in MWII, which makes that entire mission pretty much pointless, all because Graves was a popular character. And they kill Shepard in an after post credits sequence with barely any build up even though they were the main villian in OG MW2 and a huge character part of the plot there. The campaign was the only thing i was even remotely interested in, but now that I see how mediocre it looks, I'm really glad I didn't waste 70$ Edit: Fixed spelling
mostly agree, except for Ghost being that important in og MWs. He was more of a mask on a generic soilder, and especially compared to new Ghost (who is one of the only chars they did better) looks even more forgettable. More pissed on how little of a fuck Price seemed to give, in MW3 Ghost's death made him flip out until he got Makarov and changed his character completely for the rest of the game, yet here feels way less consequential. Soap dying feels like smth they forced in to have this game have purpose, he could have lived and not much would change
@naukith2023 I meant that as in Ghost was super popular but not really essential to the plot. OG Ghost didn't really do anything other than look cool while Soap and Price were the important protagonists. But Ghost was so memorable that he got a game named after him with CoD Ghosts, which no other character has had before or since. And in here, I can understand Price not reacting because here, Soap and Price aren't that close. Soap and Ghost are close, and it could have been a decent moment for the incredibly stoic Ghost to show some emotion, but he barely acknowledges it either.
@@lordshaxx9090Not the OG trilogy bro but we fan really care bout the OG characters, new fans might like Ghost buy back then soap was the OG COD hero for me. It was Soap and Price against all odds and now they are all for Ghost
Couldn’t even give him a good death scene, at least with Alex they had a perfect chance to kill him off but couldn’t do that for a character who’s actually dead
Soap dying in mw3 originally felt like it had actual weight to it, like it left a lasting impact on price and from that point onwards for the rest of the campaign you could see how Prices calm demeanour flipped until he killed Makarov. Now it’s like he just accepted Soaps death like any other NPC that gets killed, like what the fuck, there was no impact, especially for one of the most important characters in COD as a whole 🤷♂️ just felt like some extremely lazy writing compared to what we used to get back in the day. Also OG Makarov used to actually be menacing and carried the aura of someone who could actually completely fuck up the world as we know it through war, this new Makarov was just more annoying then anything, OG Makarov had so many moving parts to his story and now the reasoning behind what he’s doing is “Russia lost control over a single country 🥺” 🤷♂️ i don’t know it’s just my thoughts these campaigns just seem to be using the nostalgia of characters we know to tell some very bland and boring stories
Think you’re giving OG Makarov too much credit, the dude barely did any real heavy lifting and mainly just played to Shepards whims in MW2 and captured the president in 3. He doesn’t do any thinking ahead and he’s much less sensible (I mean having two sides declare war on eachother when both have nukes doesn’t make much sense especially with what we know today. Soaps death I agree with you on however, despite it being more realistic in a sense.
crazy that makarov used to be a ruthless killer who was willing to gun down entire airports full of civilians PERSONALLY and use gas bombs in civilian population centers and now he just... gasses bases and hijacks 1 plane. sure if it had come out pre original MW2 it wouldve been shocking. but something about the big and shocking parts/deaths of the original MW series just hits DIFFERENT
It’s realistic dawg. What do you think that a irl soldier has a bad ass cutscene for their deaths?? No. They get popped and that’s it you keep moving. You’ll die irl if you just sit there having your moment mourning over that.
@@SebastianHernandez-rx8gz Stop saying “it’s realistic” when there is less that a 100 pound woman scratching and kicking a dude off of her. That sequence right there is unrealistic. If you yourself wanted to truly wanted to pin a woman down, a scratch and a push off kick won’t subdue you to the point where your just lying on the floor😂
This COD series' versions of Price, Gaz, Soap, and Ghost are the reasons I have a soft spot for the Modern Warfare reboot games, but compared to the original Modern Warfare 3, this game is so under the bottom.
Maybe because MWIII wasn't even made by the same team & studio? MWI & MWII was made by Infinity Ward but MWIII was made by Sledgehammer (ironic name ngl)
After finishing, I can say that I appreciated it for what it was. But it's evident they didn't have time to complete it and needed something last minute to justify the 70 price tag. This was/should have been for 2025/26. When the game reached the court hearing between Shepherd and Graves, it felt like the campaign had hit its midpoint, and things were about to get serious from there. But then it's as if they took that piece of the pie and served it as the ending. The open combat missions were enjoyable imo (but I can understand most would hate the WZ influence), and I felt like they had a good idea, but it wasn't implemented well; enemy AI detection is overtuned, making stealthy playstyles impossible, and there's a large missed potential for CO-OP with a friend. Overall, I give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.
@@KingKilo88 I actually enjoyed MWII story, despite some convoluted parts, and really liked MW2019 campaign. But I'm starting to get tired of the "Special Forces" perspective on the story. What happened to the Rangers, Marines and bigger aspects of warfare. That, the orginal trilogy will always win because it had variety and big awesome action set pieces.
Not sure why, but I really enjoyed some of the moments we got in this campaign. Kinda wild that Makarov was in Verdansk in 2019. I do like the line that Makarov has directed at Soap, that he promises him that he will see him again. A bit of foreshadowing there that I do appreciate. Overall first impressions of this campaign for me are pretty solid. It may not beat the original story for these characters, and let's be honest nothing probably will, but I still enjoyed it for what it is.
not good foreshadowing imo, good foreshadowing would be makarov hits at a reunion or the details in the story lead you to believe it might happen. in mw3 terrible witting he literally just says that hell se him again. Lazy campaign for a cod thats supposed to be 2-3 years long.
Original modern warfare was still way better. It was not contaminated by modern story telling which is written all over this. I do like some elements, its a cool story but for sure does not beat the original.
"For what it is?" A 70 dollar remake of an older game with a crap re-hashed campaign and you're all pros, no criticism.. You lack taste, perception, experience, reason, and intelligence; that is why you enjoyed this.

@@CoolSmoovie Honestly, if they had the balls to kill Price or Laswell, I think the emotional impact would have been tenfold. That being said, it's kinda tragically poetic that had Price not interfered when Soap was about to shoot Makarov back in Verdansk, Soap wouldn't be dead.

Afterwards there was no threat around them so there was no need to be hostile, only be mournful but ya I think we can all agree that either price or ghost are gonna be acting a bit crazy and erratic to kill makarov
@@magicman883rg6 And Price killing Shepherd wasn't crazy? I recall in the original MW, Shepherd personally killed Roach and Ghost, framed 141 and had them labelled as traitors, then almost killed Soap and Price when they finally took him down. Here? Shepherd ordered Graves to be violent to 141, but last I remember no major characters died from it. Shepherd never personally tried to kill any 141 member, and if I understand it correctly much of this game is more from the consequences of illegal (but nowhere near murderous) transactions than Shepherd himself directly doing anything to assist Makarov. It is possible that Shepherd was about to face traditional justice (but I guess there are no guarantees), and Price didn't seem to be in immediate danger when he shot Shepherd (it seemed Shepherd had given up resisting). I was fully expecting Price to give Shepherd a final warning or something. I never expected Price to actually shoot him. That's giving himself a reason to be labelled a traitor should anyone find out, even if he had Laswell's green light behind the scenes (unless the CIA were in on it too and not just Laswell personally). It feels like Price has always been angry with Shepherd, but Soap's death was the final straw. For a second it looked like Price had turned to the dark side or something. As angry as he was with Yuri and the surrounding allies in the original story, this is scarier. Soap's death hit him hard, possibly even more severely than in MW3, but the writers chose to tell it a different way. Seems like the effect was lost to some.
gaz wasn’t really a main character back then the way he is now. it’s not really a fair comparison at all. he was literally a supporting character.. people have a right to be upset at the laziness of this writing
Modern Warfare 2019 hyped me up to the point I want to pre-order Modern Warfare 2. I am glad I didn't. Imagine if people stop complain about 'futuristic' concept and so they can go on with Advanded Warfare, Ghost or Infinite Warfare which I think they are way better than most of new things came from Activision, both gameplay and campaign (I am not fan of multiplayer).
god they really shit on those iconic deaths didnt they? i remember being DEVASTATED about soaps death in the original MW3 and now it just happens in a moment. theres no dramatic rush to safety theres no killer soundtrack its just... soulless...
When Gaz gets killed off, you’ll see Captain Prices pain. Gaz and Soap switched roles this time around. Gaz will probably be promoted to Cpt sometime in this timeline. Soap died a Sgt just like Gaz did in Cod4
@@wuhlfzebayne Writing is INHERENTLY Ceremony. - No one wants to hear someone bumble through their words (thus the love for quick, succinct, and/or meaningful dialogue). - No one wants a flat, emotionless death (no matter the character), or a flat/emotionless tragedy. People consume stories/writing because they want to be entertained, and much of this story, while it had immensely good bits, was an overall failure of pacing and writing, which only detracted from its best parts and made the worst parts worse.
I do. Ive been calling this shit since mw1 and ive been damn near right with each speculation, my guess (which is currently on track) Is Soap dies (he did) ghost is distraught about it (he is) which opens up for ghost to go off and do his own thing after the events of mw 4/5 opening up for Ghost 2.

Price heavily regretted not killing and being done with Makarov the first time he had the chance as we see. When they capture Shepherd, he was giving a similar speech that Makarov did about keeping him alive so the point of him killing Shepherd at the end is to show that he wasn't going to make the same mistake again.

Ngl I really like these mw games. 2019 was a fantastic reinterpretation and Warzone was awesome in lockdown. Mw2 was a good continuation. This campaign I'm really excited for I cannot lie
I expected a lot from this campaign but I think so far the thing that I was most disappointed about is when Soap died, not because he died but because they failed to show any emotion to his death. Like in the og mw3 Price bawled for this man, he flipped and killed Makarov, this one they just stared at and didn't even go after Makarov. And killing off Soap was a bad move, because he was the one that had the most potential as a character ngl, in the og we see him as a Captain, a very cold and rough man now and it contrasted with this reboot, I would have loved to see what happened with him yk? Like how did he get that tough, and what happened to his happier personality or even how he became captain, but nah they just killed him off. But overall I think Neil Ellice did well as Soap I wish everyone the best ❣️ and hopefully we get a happy ending in mw4
Soap plays a different role in this trilogy. He switched places with Gaz. Gaz is the apprentice now. I didn’t see captain price bawl when Gaz died in OG COD4. They’re saving Gaz’s death for later. When it happens, Price will go apeshit and act more like the original captain price. (Ever notice nobody has ever survived an “interrogation” with original OG Price? He always ends up shooting them 😂)
It’s cause Shepard said Makarov was dead. That’s the only explanation I can think of. But who knows it’s Infinity Ward and they’ll probably wait 3 years to explain it in the most mid way possible.
Shepard deserved that death, mf doesn't give Bravo time or even let them make the kill to PID the guy in the Jeep. If the one shooting the jeep up was say, Farah, Ghost or Alex, he would give Shepard a break.
I don’t get why this wasn’t just a continuation instead of this strange real kind of remake I already couldn’t get over Ghost having a Halloween decoration on his face and being made into a pseudo Boba Fett… Why does Makarov look like Ben Shapiro now?
No one is….. don’t let the minority community fool you…. This game lost millions of players….. and the only ones that play now are people that literally can be scammed to buy anything…… it’s a $70 patch update.

true, but i think MW 4 is on the way .......... or they will become GHOSTS and Call of Duty Ghosts will continue from this point forward
@Muielamanelisti yeah and dumb mfs will continue to make them millions
They kill Soap in an incredibly anticlimatic fashion with barely any emotion even though Soap was one of the three most popular characters from the OG trilogy alongside Price and Ghost and being the second most important character in the OG trilogy after Price.
They bring back Graves with the cop out excuse of saying he wasn't in the tank that Soap blew up in MWII, which makes that entire mission pretty much pointless, all because Graves was a popular character.
And they kill Shepard in an after post credits sequence with barely any build up even though they were the main villian in OG MW2 and a huge character part of the plot there.
The campaign was the only thing i was even remotely interested in, but now that I see how mediocre it looks, I'm really glad I didn't waste 70$
Edit: Fixed spelling
mostly agree, except for Ghost being that important in og MWs.
This isn’t the OG trilogy

I didn’t think the studio would have the balls to kill a member of 141 off. They didn’t even let Alex stay dead.
Lame ass simp Alex or Girl Boss Power Farah both survived explosions from chemical warheads….
Couldn’t even give him a good death scene, at least with Alex they had a perfect chance to kill him off but couldn’t do that for a character who’s actually dead
They could just let Alex & Graves die.

Also OG Makarov used to actually be menacing and carried the aura of someone who could actually completely fuck up the world as we know it through war, this new Makarov was just more annoying then anything, OG Makarov had so many moving parts to his story and now the reasoning behind what he’s doing is “Russia lost control over a single country 🥺”
🤷♂️ i don’t know it’s just my thoughts these campaigns just seem to be using the nostalgia of characters we know to tell some very bland and boring stories
Soaps death I agree with you on however, despite it being more realistic in a sense.
crazy that makarov used to be a ruthless killer who was willing to gun down entire airports full of civilians PERSONALLY and use gas bombs in civilian population centers and now he just... gasses bases and hijacks 1 plane. sure if it had come out pre original MW2 it wouldve been shocking. but something about the big and shocking parts/deaths of the original MW series just hits DIFFERENT
the new makarov is just a villain of the week same as shepherd in mw2022. you could call him Mr. Russia and it wouldn't change a thing.
Imho very generous
They had 3 games to come up with a decent story and they still failed. But your right about the court scene
@@KingKilo88 I actually enjoyed MWII story, despite some convoluted parts, and really liked MW2019 campaign. But I'm starting to get tired of the "Special Forces" perspective on the story. At least “Black Ops” featured CIA fixers “handling” problem assets after, at most, a brief apology.
Agreed
not good foreshadowing imo, good foreshadowing would be makarov hits at a reunion or the details in the story lead you to believe it might happen. in mw3 terrible witting he literally just says that hell se him again. Lazy campaign for a cod thats supposed to be 2-3 years long.
Original modern warfare was still way better. It was not contaminated by modern story telling which is written all over this. I do like some elements, its a cool story but for sure does not beat the original.

This story is trash
Everyone is mad about Soap's death being anticlimatic, they forgot about OG MW Gaz's death.

He always ends up shooting them 😂)
Soap's death was heroic. I don't think he died anti-climatically at all.
Shepard's death tho left me scratching my head
It’s cause Shepard said Makarov was dead. That’s the only explanation I can think of. But who knows it’s Infinity Ward and they’ll probably wait 3 years to explain it in the most mid way possible.
Shepard deserved that death, mf doesn't give Bravo time or even let them make the kill to PID the guy in the Jeep.
