- I've always loved the "Psycho" score, but the mono soundtrack is sorely lacking. The new Bluray includes simulated stereo, but here is the faithful Danny Elfman CD synched to the film.
My favorite Hitchcock thriller. Superb film. Excellent film.
Perhaps the grandfather of all slasher films.
The greatest cinematic music score of all time . Especially the shreaking shower scene . Its synonymous with any shower scene .
The shower scene music is what gets the most attention, imitation, parodies and discussion. There are musical cues throughout the whole movie that are equally notable, have more depth, brilliance, even beauty.
Great music!!!!! Just awesome
So what? Why do people upload a few minutes of a film?
So well done!
Psycho ! thats a real classic movie
Seen it for the first time on Nightmare Theatre back he late 70s
So that's where busts rhymes for that sample.
John Gavin was so handsome!!
Behold: The birth of the "slasher movies". The crem de la crem!
As a lontime Hitchcock fan/movie buff/musician, I have to take exception with many of the comments here about the original recording of Psycho. Yes, the original score was recorded in monaural, but conducted at it's best by the composer Bernard Herrmann, and it sounds perfectly appropriate that way. It's just that most people are conditioned to hearing that contrived stereo separation in slick studio recordings. Herrmann also said that he composed the score with an all string orchestra to compliment the black and white cinematography; more of a monochromatic medium better suited for monaural, in this case. I have heard re-recordings of it that do sound fantastic for listening pleasure, but if I screen the movie, I still prefer the original monaural sound, with proper amplification.
None of my comments were about the fact that it was recorded in mono. I love mono recordings. What I said was that it was badly recorded - the sound is terrible compared to other films of the time, and there's no dynamic range.
@@123boink I read your comments too and agree with you, although I thought there was sufficient dynamic range, it could have benefitted from more clarity in recording that monaural sound.
@@boborrahood I've always hated the recording since the score is so great. I was thrilled to find Elfman's recreation, which is much better than the suite Herrmann recorded himself!
@Broadway Classixs I'll have to hear Elfman's recording of that score now. I have another complete Psycho score of the Royal National Scottish Orchestra conducted by Joel McNeely that is great to listen to in my car for sonic splendor. But if you you say Elfman's recreation is much better than Herrmann's version, I take it you mean the recording, since Herrmann was the composer and original conductor. Elfman became a talented fllm composer, but Herrmann was his greatest inspiration and influence (influencing many of the best ones) to become a film composer after being in the band Oingo Boingo.
@@boborrahood Elfman's score is the one you hear in these five clips.
The music made this flim.
While I was excited about hearing the stereo version, I was disappointed by how "mushy" the strings sound in this. The monaural version is sharper.
I disagree. Sounds great - better than Herrmann’s LP.
Upload full HD this movie please

Bien
Matar sólo se hace en defensa propia o por un hijo ó una hija.
I love it, is this available on blu ray?
Not in stereo.
Broadway Classixs oh, but thanks for uploading. I love the music better than the original. Because now we have better recording but back then it was crapy.
Actually, by 1960 recording quality was fantastic - many films were released in full stereo. For some reason, though, this score was recorded badly.
Broadway Classixs oooh did not they had good recording. But I'm sure it sounded amazing when Bernard performed it himself
Herrmann conducted the score heard on the soundtrack. His performance is of course, flawless. It's the job the recording engineers did that was poor - even though many films of the day had beautifully recorded scores.
