81 with two blowup holes from Rick is honestly pretty impressive. He was cooking on that back 9 until the 18th by the looks of it...
Pretty impressive.......
The guy calls himself a pro Golfer.
81 isn't impressive.
@@mattkelly245 When has Rick Shiels called himself a pro golfer? I've NEVER thought of him as that. He's a professional UA-cam golfer in the sense that he makes a living playing golf on the internet but he's not a pro.
He has a whole series built on sometimes Breaking 75. If a pro ever didn't break 75 at a muni, it'd be a disaster.
@@iamjacquesbarjonI think you misunderstand what a pro golfer is. Most pros are club pros / teaching professionals which is a qualification and Rick was this. Many club pros and teaching professionals would not break par when they play although likely could at times. Tour pros make a living actually playing golf and their golf games are on a completely different level to a regular pro
@@mattkelly245You do 81 at an Open qualifier and then we’ll see what’s not impressive 😂😂. Chill out baby boy. I promise you he’s better than you
@iitstre_4550 Considering I'm a Scratch player I would be very disappointed with an 81.
Rick is ALWAYS "struggling" 🥺
His chipping seriously makes me think whether he spent his pro days outside of chipping area.
He’s a poor golfer and should just stick to UA-cam
@@tonythaiger93 Big difference between Golf Professional and Professional Golfer.
You were respectful and that is an admirable quality.
Open qualifying is INSANELY difficult.
Everyone who signs up is a good player. EVERYONE.
No, they are not ALL good. You only have to be scratch, and I've seen some truly terrible scratch players.
Some of the scores were abysmal and a good player would never shoot that badly, even on a bad day.
You are playing the course! So who else is there is irrelevant.
@@garycornwell2045 It isn't irrelevant if the majority are MILES better than you are and in order to qualify you need to shoot lower.
You aren't playing the course in a Strokeplay event. You are playing to have a score lower than your competitors.
@@sandersson2813 you don't know what score you need however history in these events suggests 12 over might not cut it.
@@garycornwell2045 Agreed 12+ is horrendous, and if you shoot that it doesn't matter who else is in the field.
I'll agree on that, but if you have a decent round it really does matter because for instance the regional round has a lot more ordinary players than final qualifying thus if you shoot level par in Regional you will stand a good chance of making it through, if you shoot level par in Final Qualifying it's irrelevant as you'll be nowhere near such is the higher calibre of player.
If you're going to shoot 12+ or as Pete has done come nowhere near to qualifying on any of his many attempts you might as well set fire to your entry fee or put some bets on with it instead.
Damn Rick shot E for 11 holes mid round that’s impressive!
Playing A Piss Easy Scoring Golf Course With Favourable Weather Condition's. Yup! Nine Over Great round from an 8 - Handicap Golfer. RICK!!!!! 🙈👍🏻
So Peter Finch shoots an 83 and it's a bad day for him, but Rick Sheils shoots an 81 on a very windy day and it "just poor golf"
Finch is a far better player than Rick, and Rick's score came from a couple bad holes really, Finch just had a poor round in general
Let’s go mate, I’ve always liked Andy Carter and how he interacts with the OG UK fab 4. Rick and Pete will be disappointed, hope they bounce back quickly. It takes some balls to put themselves out there like that.
I'm especially gutted for Peter, he's put so much effort in.
He isn't good enough, never had been and doesn't have the minerals.
Has a "bad round" in this every year, whilst bog standard club golfers are making the cut.
@@sandersson2813he's definitely good enough in ability. Mentally he's beyond amature.
Delusional youtuber
@@rhysbevan5544 He's not good enough, as he repeatedly demonstrates, just as I'm not good enough, and you're not good enough.
I know people who have made it through to Final Qualification, but that's it, they simply can't get any further.
The absolute best these UA-camrs can hope for is Final Qualifying.
@@rhysbevan5544 He's nowhere near good enough. He doesn't consistently put in good scores anywhere under pressure. Shoots in the 80's far too often.
I’ve just got back from Caldy, I watched a couple of holes of Rick’s, he definitely got the tougher side of the draw, it was a lot windier this afternoon. Young kid Cam Walker a member of Caldy absolutely smashed it though.
unlucky it got windy when he teed it up but i do wonder what he could do if he got a proper fitting from Ian at TXG/Club Champion in Toronto.
Feel completely wounded for Peter Finch - hes been putting the graft in!
He needs to spend about 50k on a psychologist and a hypnotist. His mentals have always been horrible.
Just remember that Peter also shot 79 off the tournament tees at pinehurst no2 recently too. That's pretty good going.
With no pressure.
Horvat and the bryan bros, actually would have made the cut, 2 rounds not one
@@simonhuss9619 Sheer speculation.
If they're so good, why didn't they try?
Nate’s new sponsor… HOME DEPOT 😂
Pete’s score is definitely a shocker, he’s been playing really well lately. That’s golf as they say. Rick did better than I expected
I expected a bad score. He's never done well in Regional Qualifying. Never been remotely close to qualifying.
He's up against proper players, not Mars Bar Salesmen Club Pro's.
@@sandersson2813 Wow. You really are a hater. Who hurt you?
@@winstonsmith11 Are you American by any chance?
It's perfectly reasonable to be realistic without being "hateful".
Why is it peoppe can't accept another point of view without denigrating it as "hate". I was stating my opinion based on evidence of consistent failure at this level with seemingly no improvement year on year. There's only so many times you can say "just a bad day" before it falls on deaf ears.
These guys demonstrably are not good enough technically or mentally to qualify for The Open.
Occasionally one of them MIGHT make it through to Final Qualifying, but perhaps you don't realise the chasm between these guys and those genuinely capable of qualifying for a Major Championship.
@@winstonsmith11 he is right though. He didn't say anything that wasn't true. Pete doesn't have the mental ability to play under pressure. And to be honest, on his own videos he barely catches a fairway. Love his videos but honesty is honesty.
What shirt is the blue one under your long sleeve?
We are gonna get right into the title thumbnail…. 10:30 sec later Rick Sheils scored a ___! I still love ya man! Lol
A qualifier isn't really the same as playing in a tournament though. A few people are always going to go low. So if you already know what you have to shoot, and you only have 18 holes, then you pretty much have to be aggressive on every single hole. So you will either post one of your lowest scores or one of your highest scores. This might sound elementary to anyone who's played in a qualifier. But for those that haven't, they really might not understand this.
Nate's brother did a good job filling in today.
Peter finch succumbed to rock hard greens that were slow as shit - the course was shite! Links but not links- i know ,i played!
I also played , the greens were firm but they weren’t slow at all ⛳️⛳️👍👍
Bad workmen blames his tools. 7 qualified and scored well, so why didn't Pete?
Andy Carter was only +1.
He will get it next year
More chance of Jesus finding Lord Lucan.
I need to see Rick and Peter playing together at Royal Troon. It would explode the internet.
I would like to see some of the top UA-camrs in the US try and qualify for our US Open next year I think that would make for some great content
81 with 2 triples is respectable. Golfers like Rick (and many/most of us, me included) make bad swings. Yesterday, I had an eagle on a par 5, then the next hole i made a quadruple bogey SEVEN on a par 3! Golf is hard, golf is stupid.
Peter Fintch did not play in the myrtle beach classic. He played in the qualifier.
Clearly what I meant lol but thanks
We all know what he meant
Not really shocking...actually from what I have watched that is actually better than I thought he would do.
He did better than I thought
Rick by his own admission is about a 2 handicap, and je went into this woth no expectations.
He knew, and we know that no UA-cam golfer is up to this level.
Andy Carter is, and he almost proved it...almost!
@@SteveFromStockport Up to what level? The absolute best any of these UA-camrs could do is to possibly sneak into Final Qualification but get anhiliated by the quality of player who can outscore them by 15 shots over two rounds.
No UA-cam golfer in the Rick/Pete/Andy mould will EVER qualify for The Open. It's as pointless a quest as that American kid in the UK trying to have a bogey free round off a handicap of 12. It's not happening.
@@sandersson2813 I play off 12 and have had bogey free rounds. Do double bogeys count?
@@christopherhughes497 😀😀😀😀 Bravo
disappointed with Peter's game. He has been playing so well. Bad days can catch anyone!!!
To that point, I wouldn’t say disappointed in his game. His game is incredible right now. The course got the best of him is all
Seems to catch a bad round every year in qualifying, wonder why?
I walked with Matt it was hard going at Fulford. But he got a hole in one. That helped 😂
Airpods are an overpriced waste of money
A UA-camR DIDNT SHOOT LIKE A PRO DOES, WHAT A SURPRISE!
81 not out, should take up Cricket
😂😂😂 brilliant
Wherever you are moving, please make sure they have a closet you can use for YT so we can throw it back to when we started this whole thing haha!
Finally gonna have an office/studio! Haha not a big deal
Very true boys. I’m a 5.4 handicap. Have shot some great rounds but played a local course near me a month ago and shot 84… considering I shot 75 at Hilton head a month before it, bad rounds happen. And I’m no where near as good as a Peter finch type. I play one time a week.
Rick even said himself he’d be happy if it was just a couple holes that really did him in.
Andy carter might get into final as he is a reserve. A bit unlikely as he is 65th reserve but there is a small chance
To be fair to Rick, I played in the second last group yesterday and the wind was brutal! That, plus the heat and a near 6 hour round made it very, very hard work to score. Anybody who has shot a good round from after midday yesterday has played some seriously good golf!
Heat in UK isn't an excuse at all. It's not Death Valley.
What did you mate?
@@Monkeypole 80, terrible. 6x3 putts...
Well done Andy Carter!
Again, gonna have to comment that the audio is better than it was, but you really need to invest in a better mic. Which is expensive but doable 😅 sorry still love ur videos though. Thanks for the awesome video though all love ❤️
Doesn't matter. Love Rick and his videos. Peter seems to be a decent guy too.
...and he actually is! I was disappointed that Rick was allocated to Caldy, when Peter Finch, Andy Carter and James Robinson were at Hesketh, which is where I went. Let me tell you, they are all really affable guys, who will share themselves with the spectators...very unlike the tour pros!
Think by now most realize that a UA-cam influencer will not play in the open
Holy crap dont know why I read this as Rick Shiels got shot as in like with a gun .... and I was like wtf!?! maybe was the "breaking" heading
Rick needs to play them wazaki hybrids he reviewed a while ago.......best hes played in a decade 🤣
Played well against Justin Rose just can't keep momentum for 18 holes
Andy Carter has the bragging rights now against all his youtube mates...waxed the lot of them
Rick Shiels is a 5 handicapper at best. Don't expect anything else.
He’s at best a good country club player. Probably wouldn’t even win his own club championship
He is not a 5 handicapper. 10 is more accurate. That 81 is his absolute best IMO.
He's a 1 or 2 by his own admission.
@@sandersson2813 Yes, handicaps are generally misunderstood by most people. It factors in course rating and it is not an AVERAGE, but the number represents a good round (the USGA handicap throws out your 10 worst scores straightaway). To say Rick is a 10 handicap is foolish...low single digits I can buy. I'm a 15 and if I were playing Rick, would ask for a stroke on the 10 toughest holes at a minimun.
Rick Shiels shot 81
You missed the 94!
And what about p finch!
Andy carter missing by one!
You briefly 😂mentioned Matt Fryer, but neglected to mention he got a hole in one during his unsuccessful qualifying round.
Well done Andy Carter!
We all know that Rick and Peter can play better than they did.
I've love to see Garrett, Grant, Kwon, Dalke try for US Open qualifying next near. Ability-wise those guys are miles ahead of the UK guys
Kwon and Dalke i honestly say should qualifying with very little trouble. Have you seen Kwon’s recent stuff? He shot 9 under at Barnbougle’s hard course. If he keeps playing the way he is right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he won the qualifier next year. He’s COOKING right now! And Brad is Brad, dude has like 5 bad rounds a year 😂
There all legit scratch to + hdcp and would wipe the floor with the uk offerings
Rick Shiels yes. Peter Finch shot better than Luke Kwon, Grant Horvat and Micah Morris at the Myrtle Beach qualifier not long ago
Dalke made the US Open in 2017 as the NCAA champion I believe.
@@iitstre_4550Qualifying with very little trouble, is not something anyone not prequalified can manage.
Haha I saw my insta comment on ricks post on this
10:29. Not shocked at all. It is the same I would expect from Micah Morris at this point.
81 is impressive to 99.9999% of people watching youtube.
All golfers have bad rounds, Max Homa shot and 81 a couple weeks ago, top 10 in the world player
Pete just had a shocker on the day much better than that, Rick had 2 really bad holes but the rest was quite steady for Rick
Ricks a nice man, he doesn’t claim to be a world beater, 🏌🏻
I don’t think he does. At times though, he does engage in bold crazy talk in reference to his game.
He's a chopper. A prime example of 5 handicap golfers becoming pga pros by completing a university course. Ends up in a retail shop trying g to make money by selling kit and lessons. No time to play so 5 handicap is the best he will ever get
I have not watched this video nor read any comments. I'm a subscriber to Rick's channel, and he hadn't posted anything about it as far I know. If I'm wrong, I apologize, but I find it pathetic that you've posted the results before he has. Again, I apologize if I'm wrong.
Open qualifying results are probably live and certainly posted on the Open website by the end of the day and therefore available to anyone immediately.
Good Good
Nelly who won 5 straight on the tour just shot 81 in a major. Scotty almost missed the cut at Pinehurst (and has won 6 straight) 95% of people do not understand what a true tournament golf is like.
Scotty didn't miss the cut
@@travistemple7526 well, he wasn't in contention. Tournament Golf is hard was my point.
Rick should challenge some of his haters to a match, would do for great content. Im no fan of his game but i would love to see some of his bullies in front of a 2.8 m audience. If something any decent golfer should have is humility
I totally agree.
I have been saying the same thing for months as the comments in his UA-cam videos are getting more negative by the day.
He needs to do exactly what the “DOD King” does, call out the haters, show up to their course and spank them live on camera.
I don’t think some people grasp that he plays from the tips on some of the hardest courses in the world. He’s not playing on some local rinky-dink course from the white tees.
Think Peter Finch shot 83? Shame. He’s a great golfer.
What about Jimmy bullard?
Back injury didn’t even tee it up
@YoYoZamolo oh no way that's gutting
I just realized that Nate looks a lot like Keegan Bradley. And the conspiracy theorists will note that the two have never been seen together in person. Hmmm....
😂 actually gotten that once before at a course
I still dont understand why people get caught up with these youtube golfers. They are NOT tournament players. They never will be. They are CONTENT creators. Fun to watch, but they are not the same guys you see grinding as tour pros at ANY level
Rick has zero chance of..
*shocking* is nor how I'd personally describe it, but I appreciate you gotta get bums on seats
Sorry... but George Bryan is not a PGA Tour golfer. He's never earned his card. He also missed making the Korn-Ferry Tour by not passing Q-School. Just like Annika Sorenstam wasn't a PGA Tour golfer. Just because they were invited to play in a PGA Tour event (through a sponsors exemption or Monday qualifier) it doesn't make them anything more than VERY talented... and you left out James ("Robbo") Robinson, who's Rick's best friend and mentor. He shot a 77 (+6) for T49 at Hesketh. Andy Carter qualified as 65th Alternate.
Nate, I would like to re-subscribe, but I just can't as I have trouble listening to you talk so fast. I don't mean that as a criticism, I really don't, as I really respect what you do. But, for my mind, I need to hear someone slow down, pause a bit, and make it simpler to listen to. Simplicity + Brevity = clarity. Just a small suggestion... keep up your hard work though!
You can slow down the playback speed lol

Shiels has a difficult time breaking 80.
You’d have a hard time breaking 120 in an Open qualifying course setup.
Love the stuff, Nate! Just found your channel. If you ever find yourself in Nashville. 18 on me!
Appreciate you bro!
They only do it because it gets good views , neither have a hope in hell
People are mean to Rick because he's delusional. He's no where near a pro case in point the 10 under challenge. He thinks he's on the same level and people like to let him know otherwise.
Cant break 80 😂
Rick Shields sprays more than a dog on a water hydrant.
I gave up golf for about 10 years after playing in high school. I got back into it this summer and I’ve played about 6 rounds. My lowest since I’ve started playing again is 80. Rick has been playing nonstop for almost all his life and golf is literally his job. Cringe.
lets see you film every shot and post it online for endless amount of critics and then see how you do 🙄
@@leebaxtertrading okay bet.
Every Good Good "personality" thinks they're so important, that they should ramble on about themselves and how important they are for 1:40. 🗑
Lets be honest here, Rick Shiels has been struggling for YEARS. He may he a great youtuber and i do enjoy his content, but hes not a great golfer.
For some reason this video was annoying...feels like dragged on in parts imo.
Having watched some of his videos, Shiels is no better than a 6 handicapper and on the longer, tougher courses is totally out of his depth.
Rick is a terrible pro as far as what he can shoot for scores. He’s a terrible chipper and putter
R.I.P RICK SHIELS 😂😂😂 triple on the last comedy golf ⛳⛳⛳
