people commenting here are saying he overcomplicate simple things, but as an artist, i think he is a genius. he explains the art through geometry that no one like you (simple minded and settle for lesser things) would appreciate. it improves your visualization and perspective on an object.

Absolutely. I am sitting here stunned, as a self taught art-er (not really an artist). Eating up his videos but slowly, so they actually land. It's like a horizon suddenly opening with light. His teaching itself is a craft, and what he is offering is the actual technical details of how to create .. literally anything. It almost brought a tear to my eye, the moment I comprehended what a master this man is, and what I can learn from him.

He commanded the classes attention completely, and that alone deserves respect.
As far as the method, It seemed clear to me. I think when I make a circle in the future I will think about the acceptable circle from this video. Any method that lots of people can learn from is as legitimate as any other.

I’m a contemporary art school student. None of my tutors can draw or paint, but they know absolutely all modern and contemporary artists that have ever existed and always tell us: look this artist up, look that artist up. That’s how we are taught. This video is not about overcomplicating simple things, it teaches you how to see things as an artist, I would give my left pinkie to have a teacher like that who can explain how to analyze, how to break down, how to approach. This is fundamental.

Yes, his skill with teaching art is almost revolutionary. But is actually old school, apparently. For anyone trying to create, it is life changing.

Thank you very much Myron for your clear and straight forward explanations, drawings on the board and your sense of humour thrown in to keep things light. I have Circle Dyslexia, so have never read a book or passed an exam. This episode has taken me 3 weeks to learn and I am working on it 5 hours a day. I am learning to paint and wanted some basic skills to set myself up with. I have listened and watch many videos over the passed couple of months but none of them really suited me. When I found you I was thrilled and will now follow your classes to get understandable directions and teaching. Thanks again and best wishes.

I took four semesters of drawing for my two-year AA-Fine Arts degree. NEVER have I seen such a simple, cogent, and well-expressed explanation; thank you! That was beautiful, man! I've enjoyed playing with ruler-and-compass geometry, mostly because it's just pretty, and a little useful. So wonderful to see it all come together on your chalkboard. Hope you have more vids, you now have 7.46k+1 subscribers.

If you’re coming into this having no clue what he’s talking about then it definitely will confuse you and seem overwhelming.
But the jokes and cracks in this thread are annoying. Keep it real. You haven’t taken many art classes or studied far into techniques. So you don’t understand. That’s fine. Many amazing and talented creative artists that learned their techniques on their own.
    But this lesson is useful.
In art, in drawing, a useful trick is finding shapes in the objects you’re studying to draw.
Sometimes people separate the object with circles/ovals that complete the object entirely.
Those diagrams he used on the board are real diagrams used for the exact lesson he’s explaining.
I can’t even attempt to go into it. I’ll confuse you more than he ever could. But if you’re here then you clearly have an interest in the lessons behind drawing. Why not find a more beginner friendly introduction to this chapter? It truly is amazing at helping you see objects/people in a different light when it comes to drawing.

Brian Kellogg You’re dense aren’t you?
If you don’t understand a comment then how about you not respond?
I’m a fan of this man and my comment was in response to all the negativity on this videos commentary thread criticizing him for “over explaining” and being a “bad teacher”.
My point was to let everyone insulting his skills know that they’re obviously ignorant to art in general as this lesson he’s conducting is a common one and anyone who’s taken an art class should know it, so those complaining are complaining because they’re completely clueless. It would be like watching a video on trigonometry and complaining because the teacher doesn’t make sense meanwhile the people complaining can’t even multiply.
I hope you actually understand my comment this time as I’m not a fan of having to explain myself to some rude and ignorant person who calls me a bitch for absolutely no reason and doesn’t bother actually reading my comment, but instead jumps at the chance to insult me.

Geometry has always played a major part of making art through out the history of the world.
      Every culture knows this.
If you want to make stupid art or mindless art just make abstract art.
      No thinking required. Voila.

    • @SubNorm4L
      @SubNorm4L 5 років тому +26

It's not about drawing a bottle. It's about measuring and analysis. When you want to do a piece of art, you don't use ALL the guidelines unless you're a hell of a perfectionist. You just use a few or non at all. But because you know how to do deep analysis, you visualise those relationships in your mind and measure with your eyes, Internalizing it. It becomes second nature.
It's a method of training, not a guide to make cute drawings. The art piece should be the organic result of all that mechanical training.

...To truly appreciate what this man is teaching requires years of observing and drawing....Through this experience and skill you come to understand that the underlying structure of nature, is geometrical..mathematical....Drawing, geometry and mathematics are inter-related...just ask Leonardo Da Vinci.

Gosh this grandpa looks grumpy. I studied drawing in Lima Peru, my teacher was a great artist who studied in Russia. In the beginning he was extremely extric, sarcastic and he made jokes about our first works but he had that style, he challenged you in that way to prove him and prove yourself that you can draw, he was one of the best teacher that I had in his life, I will always remember my old teacher Leonel Velarde.

Proper old school methods and I don't have a problem with this, if you don't like this teaching style or find it boring then that's your right. These are the types of lessons the masters and great craftsmen had to sit through and they didn't have the luxury of photoshop and CAD to aid their work, especially in the field of architecture, just boring chalk and blackboard lectures. It's very similar to industrial design drawing techniques, just more boring. All of these measuring methods and proportions are found in classical and grand buildings like Notre Dame and you cannot replicate those proportions and moldings by guessing or taking shortcuts, you have to know how to do it right. Task a class of graduating architecture students who were never lectured on classical architecture and only contemporary architecture to build a car sized scale model of the Sydney Opera House exterior with nothing but the elevations to guide them, they could probably pull it off. Ask these same students to build full scale, free standing wooden models of each classical order with full entablature and moldings as accurately as possible with nothing but the measurements and proportions from Vignola's section plates to guide them. They would struggle because they skipped the boring bit.

....is the only informed opinion on this entire thread. Thanks helicoptersrkool. Do you know who else thought helicoptersrkool? Yup DaVinci. He knew a thing or too about proportion and form. Seriously though great comment. People complaining about this is like saying I can do my grocery bill why do I need calculus. This is about the art of observation.

This is a dying art ,literally, only a handful of teachers like this in the world today, the majority of "Art colleges" are indoctrinated with post modern crap and conceptual useless garbage, all a quick fix to feeling and provoking a reaction for the sake of it, throw away, like the world itself as it stands. Methods like these make you slow down, think, analyse, and your brain thanks you for it, they're the fundamentals to architecture and good design, thank you for this video series.
